Medical Grow

I think Knna is wrong about that, considering what we know about Total alkalinity vs water pH in terms of the affect on substrate pH and the research from Bill Argo on CEC in containers.

I have honestly never seen anything like what is going on Doc's garden with that coco plant. My only problem with coco is not being able to locally find a good product locally. Otherwise, it's great if you want a reusable and easily disposable medium. The Sunleaves peace coir that I had a problem with created instant nitrogen deficiencies - not anything related to Ca or Mg. Nitrogen drawdown is what it's called and it was probably caused by the coco not being fully decomposed...

I don't know about that. It's moved from Sri Lanka, India and the Phillipines on cargo ships to California, Canada, European ports, etc. and than moved across countries on planes, trains and trucks?

Well, live and learn for me. There are certain things I like about my current grow, and certain things i don't like. I'll get some good product from this grow....some of it could be VERY good, judging by resin formation.

While some of the plants look more ragged than i am used to seeing, the bud development is still on track.

The only exceptions are the Trainwrecks.....2 of the 4 look horrible....way too much leaf, slow on the bud formation, just ugly. Yep.....in the coco.

Sometimes the grass isn't greener on the other side. No pun intended. Go with what you know. I think if you have a formula that works great for you and someone else has one for them then so be it. I'm all for trying new things. But if I don't like something and can't be proficient with it I'd rather swallow my pride and get good results. To much time invested in each cycle for me to repeat something just to prove to myself I can do it. Especially when what I do is as effective for me as what others do is for them. If that made any sense.:tokin:

yep. makes good sense to me.

Even though I paint it a bit bleak....every single clone and every seed that popped is still growing. I am also over crowded.....I'm thinking about ditching 3 TW's this week. It will open things up for the other plants to finish.

We shall see.

More pics this coming week. Lot's of frosty buds to show off.

Long time. #18/18 on 10/27 is a beautiful shot. Been obsessed with all things Measure 74. If it passes, we must chat.

I'm a full blown Oregonian again. As a producer, I'd like to model my setup after your medical grow. Good work Real Estate and electricity's cheap up here if you ever wish to change your zip code.

Believe me, I've thought about it. But for now, I'll stay here and finish what I've started.

I'll get some more pics this week. All the tall ones are now staked up....they're falling over, getting big and still weeks to go.

Also, the Mg deficiency is clearing up.....I limed the soil and foliar fed with epsom salt.

Nice pics Doc, hope it leads to a good harvest! Staking up your plants is a good problem to have.

I know you didn't flush the coco starting out, do me a favor and flush them all thoroughly again with just RO. Let's see if they can finish strong at least. Being comfortable with something can be easier.

Ok, I'll ask....

What's so great about Oregon vs. California?

Doc, how portable is your practice? Are you more on the GP end of things or a specialist that'd be more comfortable at Providence? Building a practice and then uprooting can be challenging sometimes...

Been thinking whether I want to move to either SF or SD (very different areas) next year, so I'm always interested to hear what the natives think about the state, where they'd live (or not live - and prefer to move to) - and why. Right now, I'm leaning towards SF.
---

I know LA ain't for me. Haven't liked it since taking the prospective college tour a few decades back and looked at the CalTech campus - got out of the car, and a vaporous miasma assaulted my senses.

Found out later that was supposedly on one of the good days.

The UCLA girls looked cute, though... ;)

Understood . . . but we got a good gig goin on up here.

Maybe next year.

Hey, w/ Mg problems - is it a consumptive disorder or a deficiency? With the care you put into your dirt I can't help but think it is a hypermetabolic issue.

hey bro.....they've all been flushed and re-flushed. What finally worked was dolomite and foliar spray. I'm not in pure coco, but in a coco based mix...mostly coco though. And that's the top half of the pots. The bottom half is pure organic soil, which is peat based.

I was told this was the "killer combo." The lower half was pretty much the same as what I was going to blend myself. It probably works.....but not with the coco on top. I'll try it with another soil on top next time, perhaps.

ORE vs CA......the law reads much better up there and the cost of living is lower. But, as you point out, my practice is not at all portable and I've worked hard and continue to work hard in it. I'm not ready to leave it!

I'm not sure what exactly it is....the plants grew very fast and only a few of them have the problem.....but like I stated above, it's improving. There was enough green leaves on all the plants to where the bud formation continued on as it should.....except the Trainwrecks.....they seem a bit behind in the bud department. On the other hand, the OG and JH are lookin real nice.

Day 49 of flower:

Well, one thing is certain; each grow has its share of challenges and problems.
My magnesium/coco issue is resolving....but I've got a pretty good case of Spider Mites!

They came with the clones, and I'm sorry to say they appear to be of the super-mite variety, as they are still living even though I have a No Pest Strip out. So, I'll manage them with some Azatrol. No major problem....just a challenge that I am prepared for.

So, first pics are of the Mag plants, which are improving;

Here's my outdoor seed factory. It's a Blue Dream that had a male BD in the same pot till a couple days ago. Every inch of it is pollinated. And the plant is healthy and frosty. I'm hoping for 100 good seeds.

Fall is hitting the ATF. And the blackberry Kush is also starting to purple up. Gonna drop temps at night and get some more dat action.

Random nite shots. Everything is swelling up, frosting up, and falling over. Lots of staking and string in the garden tonite.

I'm growing 2 Bubba Kush's under the T5 array. Lots of leaf, but the buds are starting to swell up as well.

So, all in all, the grow is going to be a success....with some good lessons learned in the process.

From now on, I'll be very, very picky with clones. They just aren't worth it when they're infested with hippies.

Doc,

Yesterday I visited my plant and saw what appears to be like your first pic with the green/yellow stripes. A mag deficiency? So how much epsom per gallon do you add, and how often? And can I still foliar spray this late? It will be 6 weeks flowering as of tomorrow. Other than that, she is looking way to nice for me to screw things up now.

Yep. You can still foliar spray! I'm doing it....

I used 1 tsp per gallon on the epsom. I also add a "spreader" which can be as simple as 2-3 drops of dish soap. I ph'd to 6.8. It seems to be working.

Also, you can add some epsom to the water when you feed them. Unless you're in coco, it won' take much to fix the problem.

Lookin good Doc, sorry to hear about the mites..first time I've heard the NPS not working. :goodluck:

I also have a mag def and have been treating with cal/mag. The problem is persisting so I'm gonna grab some epsom's tonight and foliar, hopefully that will start clearing it up. Things are still looking droopy and it's been a frustrating first grow so far but I'm hanging in there.

So many good grows I'm following on 420 keepin my hopes up!

Doc, do you mind PM'ing me? I have a few questions to ask and don't have the 50 posts yet. Yeah, and I'm a chick.... :) It's all good tho....I think I've been called worse than a bro... ha ha...

And I think the Growilla is a CRF..or similar to it. Don't know for sure, just seemed like something you might be interested in.
