Hey everyone. I’m finally getting around to starting this journal. Let’s start from the beginning.
I bought 10 AK-47 regular seeds. I germinated 5 of them in 2/3 organic seed starter mix and 1/3 native soil from my back yard. I added good amount of sure start in, mixed it all up and put them into 1/2 gallon pots. Soaked and left in my closet. They all sprouted through the soil on the 5th day. I didn’t have a light yet so I left them outside in the sun for the first day.
The other 5 seeds were germinated in paper towels on the same day as the first five. The popped little tails about 36 hours after germinating. I filled 5 more 1/2 gallon pots with organic potting soil and planted the germinated seeds about an inch deep. I forgot to mix sure start in these pots. But never the less they sprouted the same day the first five seeds.
I bought the Agrobrite T5 2’ 4 bulb 96 watt light from the local hydro store. It came with 4 6400K bulbs which are decent for seedlings, or at least that’s what I read. Turns out, the little seedlings loved the light. I put them under the light the second day and let them grow under 20 hours of light with a 4 hour dark period. I let them grow for two weeks on this schedule and then switched to 18/6. I knew they would be outside soon and didn’t want to shock them too much.
So here we are, 26 total days from initial germination. I have just transplanted the first five that germinated in seed starter mix and native soil. They seemed to be growing a lot faster for some reason. Maybe it was the sure start. Anyway, I was advised to check the roots on the bigger plants and sure enough it was time to up pot.
The five larger plants were transplanted into 15 gallon fabric pots. I filled them with Pride Lands premium potting soil (my neighbor is a vendor) and mixed in some sure start. This soil seems be a well built soil so I did not mix in any other soils, or amendments.
All plants are now outside on the sun’s light schedule and I will up pot the other 5 plants when the time comes. For now they are just growing along nicely and will keep posting pics and updates for everyone to tag along.
