Dr. Doob's continuous carousal of cannabis. Hempy, MarsHydro, GROWant, Rx Green

During the 90s I was a full time grower, inside and out. Pesky life got in the way but now I'm back at it. I did a small outdoor patio grow over the summer and had so much fun I decided to go indoor. I'm not a very social person but I'm trying (this is me trying right now), so please forgive me in advance if I have online etiquette slip ups.

I made a couple seed purchases over the summer and have a decent collection of seeds mostly from non-sponsors.

Seed stock that I will be mixing in:
1024 Feminized
Kera LA Widow Feminized
FREE OG Kush Feminized
Amphetamine Auto Feminized
White Widow Automatic Feminized
THC Bomb Auto Feminized
Skunk #1 Auto Feminized
Sensi Skunk Auto Feminized
King's Kush Auto Feminized
West Coast O.G. Auto Feminized
Purple Haze Auto Feminized
FREE AK Auto Feminized
NukeHead
OB1 OG
Many Bag Seeds
Unknown OG x 1024 (two very different phenos)
Unknown OG x Violet Haze
Unknown OG x OG Kush
Unknown OG x Unknown OG

I also have access to some of my old seed stock from the 90s that I will be receiving soon. I can't wait to see if these things sprout, there is some Original Skunk #1, Tons of Colombian Gold, Colombian Yellow, the Purps, the Blood... I had a ton of great strains back then and for sure gave this guy some choice strains which he never grew but did store as safe as you can save seeds for 25 years.

Current strains I'm growing:

OG Kush (was a free seed with my order), I grew one of these outside and it was pretty good. I've got several clones.

1024 from Medical Seeds this is supposed to be a very strong Sativa, I grew two of these outdoor. One pheno was really Sativa looking, really reminds me of the good Mexican stuff I grew in the 90s. The other pheno was more of a hybrid and turned a nice blue color towards the end of October. I wish I would've been able to clone the blue one but it didn't work out. I have clones of the other one.

Unknown OG - I don't know what this is but it looks and smells awesome. I got two seeds from a friend one was male and one female. I used the male to pollinate a few branches of every strain I had growing. The female isn't the easiest plant to grow but is currently ready for harvest and looking great. I have clones of her and a male clone, and stored pollen.
IMG_335218.jpg

OB1 OG - I planted two of these regular seeds. I was planning to use a male of this for breeding but that Unknown OG above looked so nice I started with that instead. Now that I'm strictly indoors I have a lot more available options.

Nukehead - I risked the unknown one night and I bought a couple of these and have one planted.

Grow Areas:
I have three small tents with all MarsHydro lights except for one GROWant light.

Clone/Veg Tent:
It's a 2'x2'x4' generic tent. I put a very small light (15w) and an aeroponic cloner until clones and seedlings were all rooted/sprouted then transplanted them to solo hempy cups then on to 8" hempy pots.
IMG_345510.jpg

Currently contains rooted clones and seedlings. I have a Mars 300 in here and a 4" fan inline fan.

Current strains:
Clones: 2x 1024 Sativa, 2x OG Kush, 2x Unknown OG
Seedlings: 2x OB1 OG, 1x Nukehead , 2x Unknown OG x 1024 (purple pheno)
And 1x Unknown OG male

These are in solo cups but they need watering too often so I moved the largest to 8" hempy pots and will up pot the rest as room opens up.

Nutrients:
10ml Rx Green Grow A (old formula)
10ml Rx Green Grow B (old formula)
4ml Rx Green Energy
5ml General Hydro Calimag
2ml General Hydro Armor Si

Early Flower/Veg Tent
It's a 27"x27x64" MarsHydro tent.
My original intention was to have this as a transition area to prepare plants for the flowering tent. But currently I have two plants fully flowering and almost ready.

It's lit with a Mars 300 and a GROWant 240.
IMG_335617.jpg

Current strains: Unknown OG, and Cotton Candy Kush.

Nutrients:
30ml Rx Green Bloom A (old formula)
30ml Rx Green Bloom B (old formula)
5ml Rx Green Bulk
5ml General Hydro Calimag
Super soil with a ton of stuff mixed in (but not enough nitrogen and calcium I'm guessing).

The Unknown OG is just about ready and the cotton candy will be ready soon. The Unknown OG was really needing Calimag and it took me a bit to catch up to it. The Cotton Candy accidentally got some bad water and the leaves suffered some damage. All in all these plants seem good considering. They are both in soil. I've been giving them the Rx Green nutes for about a month now. They also suffered some extreme heat a couple weeks ago.

Flowering Tent:
It's a 24"x24"x48" MarsHydro Tent. It's got a Mars pro II 80, and a Mars pro II 120 on a 4' light rail moving both lights about 19" back and forth from the center.

Strains:
2x 1024 Sativa, 2x OG Kush
IMG_342614.jpg

Nutrients:
30ml Rx Green Bloom A (old formula)
30ml Rx Green Bloom B (old formula)
5ml Rx Green Bulk
5ml General Hydro Calimag
2-4ml GH Armor Si (I've mostly stopped adding this since the weather is cooler)

One 1024 is in soil the other in hempy Both OG Kush are hempies.

I think I had a combo of small issues that led to slower developing plants, the Rx Green I got on eBay was half strength and I didn't know, so was giving them very low dosages of nutes, but I think that was but a piece of a larger puzzle. I think the weak nutes, a week of over 100° temperatures, the fact that these clones were taken from outdoor plants and brought inside, my lights were too close, and maybe I flowered them a bit early all combined together. So with all that in mind I've made a conscious effort change my attitude and be happy about these girls.

Thanks for reading. I'd appreciate any advice, and/questions.

OH DAMN!!!
Purdy!!!

Tead's in. I say we start a pool regarding when SweetSue discovers the thread.
I'm in for 3 days from now.

The OGK strain I've been growing has been the same clone to clone genetics for about 10yrs now. Luvs me some OGK. Very solid and easy grower that pumps out wonderful smoke and works well in a smaller format garden.

You've obviously been growing for a day or two.... give us a touch of DrDoob background.

Thanks for the nice comments. This OG Kush is pretty decent, don't really remember smoking the outdoors much but only have one nug left so it must've been good. The indoor hempy clones look nicer although smaller nugs. I've got more seeds of it but clones are so much easier and I've got several.

Thank you for asking about my background I feel like a stalker reading so much about people here without sharing myself. I used to grow "professionally" many years ago and this summer had my first outdoor grow since. I also just yesterday harvested my first indoor plant in 25 or so years, and it was legal! Will post pics after the holiday.

In the 90s I used a very similar system to hempy. Only I used 50% perlite and 50% vermiculite in self watering pots with a slightly exposed reservoir at the bottom. That system worked great although needed more flushing then hempy due to the exposed water, and until I found Sue's hempy threads was planning on doing it that way. Also I can't seem to find vermiculite that is as course and big as I used to use, it's all like dust now. I used to also be fully organic so the exposed reservoir got nasty very quick.

I did this summer's outdoor in soil, I tried hempy but it needed too much water in my outdoor environment. When I moved indoor I did three soil and four hempy, but will be all hempy from here on.

I also built an ebb & flow system, we didn't have DWC everywhere in the 90s so I didn't know about it. It worked well but I abandoned it when hempy preformed almost as well with infinity less hassle.

I would love to find something similar to Osmo+ that was a bit safer. I'm not really worried about smoking buds, but concentrating that stuff in oil scares me a bit. I was taught by the old hippies to never use anything without a picture of a tomato on the bottle.

I am an executive at a tech company specializing in casino products. So I regularly have to endure background checks and security issues but thankfully not drug tests. We recently branched out into the cannabis industry, so I do have some inside knowledge of some major operations, which has helped a ton in my home grow obviously.

Anyways enough babbling, thanks for subscribing! I'll try to post good stuff.

Hmmm just got back from the guilt filled holiday with the family. There was some wilting in the mail flower room. I don't know how hot it got, but it was cold and foggy when I got home so maybe fall is finally here. I didn't get any pictures cause I had to scramble to get them watered before lights out.

I harvest that Unknown OG before I left and it's just about dry. It looks amazing but small. I think less then an ounce.

Everything seems to have taken a major leap towards maturing in the few days I was away. I wonder if the lack of water causes faster ripening?

I'll get pictures up of the harvested plant in my drying tent, later when I find time to edit all the exif data.

Thanks for reading!

Great lookin nugs!
My OGKush is a short stalky girl too. I veg them longer and get them bigger before blooming them out.

For many years before and after Katrina rolled into town, I was the one man IT show for a digital content company. We had about 30 employees spread to the wind (like, even other continents!) all connecting to dev/prod networks thankfully located in a city other than NOLA.
Rough days. Sad days. Drunken days.
At one point we were planning to land a helicopter on the top of our building downtown to recover some data in the office to keep payroll running. Got some friends to do it from the ground instead. At the time, there was 1 connection in the city running on gens and we managed to piggyback on them for a few days just to get data off them remotely.

I'm curious... what inroads into the canna industry does your tech company pursue?

I will have to do just that for the clones of this girl.

Sounds like no fun. I was doing a casino install somewhere by Lake Charles the day before a hurricane (I don't remember which) was due to hit. Being from the left coast I wasn't used to that kind of preparation and talk. Everyone was just casually talking about stuff that if it happened in my neck of the woods (beach?) would seem like the end of the world. I sure was glad to be flying out the day before.

We do a lot of consulting, being in the casino industry has given my company quite a bit of experience with seemingly chaotic laws and regulations and how to apply them to day to day operations.

We also have an app or two being developed that could eventually be interesting.

I jar'd up the Unknown OG yesterday. I've got to get a better drying method, with my weather hang drying just isn't consistent enough for me, sometimes it takes three days sometimes seven. I got a dehydrator to use for it, but I pollinated this plant and don't want to put the seeds through the dehydrator.

I was going to pull down the cotton candy plant, but I got distracted and didn't have time. The clones and seedlings are looking real nice. I'm so glad (thanks to SweetSue) that I now know these nutes are half strength. I don't think I will have any of the deficiency issues I've had so far. I generally try to push plants to their own personal limits but I got scared once I started going over the "recommend levels". Knowing they are half strength and the recommend levels are twice what I thought they were I no longer hold that fear.

Since I couldn't get proper photos I grabbed shots from the security cameras.

When you visit Santa and find yourself quietly telling Mr. Kringle your fondest Xmas desires, be sure to include a humidor in your long list.

Most definitely a good idea, but this year I've already written my letter to the big guy asking him to install solar panels on my roof before he slides down my chimney. After that I'm getting A/C, so hopefully my house (although not my garage where my tents are) will be more consistent but the A/C's not until March.

Had a family issue yesterday so I still haven't chopped the cotton candy or even seen the garden in a few days. If work allows me time, and I find enough courage to bring her inside during daylight I'll try to get her down after lunch. Her buds look quite different then her outdoor clone mother. It's great growing clones of the same plant in different environments, I learned a lot. This is it for this plant though, I didn't clone it further, although I did pollinate a branch or two.

I got a clip on macro lens and a tripod coming today for my phone hopefully I'll have some nicer photos soon.

In the main tent, I haven't gotten my timing right to keep things perpetuating, basically all four of these plants look to be maturing at the same time (instead of two at a time like I planned for). I thought these 1024 sativas would take a few weeks longer then the OGK like they did outdoors but that doesn't seem to be the case unless something changes soon.

Thanks and danks (or whatever the kids say nowadays).

I finally harvested the Cotton Candy some of the branches were almost bent to the ground. I've got to get some stakes or something.

Right at the start this happened:

Had to trim the rest with regular scissors which sucked a bit.

Here are four that I've moved into fill the empty spot, these will veg here for a few weeks them move on to the flower tent one at a time over several weeks (if I can stick to the plan). These are clones of Unknown OG, 1024, and OG Kush and a seedling of Nukehead.

And here is the flower tent where I think just about everything is looking nice and ready. The hempy 1024 has started to yellow and drop leaves. I think it's just because it's ripe. These pictures are from the night before last, I haven't seen them in person since and I think the other (soil) 1024 is starting to do the same thing. I'm planning on cutting them down tomorrow or Sunday so I don't really think it will be an issue. The OG Kush has turned a nice purple.

Doh, I guess I was too busy with the harvest. I must've forgotten to actually pour water in the pots in the flowering tent when I "watered them" the night before last night. I really need daily access. If that happened in October it would have been catastrophic. I should cut them down now, but the girl is having company over tomorrow, so I'll do it on Sunday. It's amazing how fast the leaves died. Hempy doesn't like going dry at all.
