Durango Trip's Deep Water Culture/Northern Lights,Master Kush, AK-47 Combo Grow

Yup, put your vent fan on a timer. You'll have to figure out the honey spot where temps/humidity concerns come into play. How much are your plants drinking each day? Do they look crispy or dry? My RH in my grow area is 40% right now. If I go back in an hour it might be at 45%. We are going to struggle with humidity issues all during winter as it only gets drier, but fortunately, bubbles allow a fast veg period.

Greetings. I just wanted to give a quick update while I had the chance.

The last couple of days have seen an increase in humidity, up to as high as 40%. This has been due to the rains, but this morning, the RH is back to around 30%.
The plants don't seem to mind it and are really starting to take off. These photos I've posted are a few days old and plants have almost doubled since then. This weekend I will probably remove the pump and feeder tubes, as all the roots have made their way into the nute solution.

I think the last pictures I posted were old ones, so I got a new picture today when I changed out the nutes and added a net.

The growth is really taking off and I couldn't be happier. Currently my humidity is staying around 40%. We'll see if that holds up. I haven't put the blower on a timer yet, but I have added a wet towel and having the girls misted several times a day. For the 4 plants, they are drinking around 1.5 gallons a day.

Next weekend I will switch over to bloom, giving a good flush 1st and hooking up the 600W HPS.

Have a great week!

Today I made the switch over to blooming. I realized how much harder it is doing it alone, instead of with a helper.

Anyway, after draining solution, I ran about 6 gallons of water to give a mild flush. I will do a 2nd flush next week, in accordance with the FoxFarm schedule with some hydrogen peroxide. I think this will be more of a preventative step, since all plants look healthy and no signs of pest at all.

Since the storms seem to have moved on, my humidity is back into the 20's, so I will only mist and worry about it another week also, then let the resin glands do their thing.

Finally, I am trying to be a little more descriptive in my labeling of my pictures in the gallery, so I might not be posting so much descriptions once the pics are in the thread. This will save me some time editing the posts.

Have a great Labor Day weekend and SMOKE UP!:passitleft:

Northern Lights

You might notice the netting is missing. I made it so I can pull it back if needed, and since I changed the lighting over, I thought I might as well let them stretch out just a bit.
Also I plan on removing the pump and feeding tubes next week and the net will just get in the way.

I will put the net back next week and spread out the branches to fill the tent.

Durango, Nice lookin grow !! Love that tent looks like a Jardin 39"x39" (I have the same one), I also have 2 NLs in there now just started 12/12 yesterday on them ! Would love to try a scrog grow maybe next time through..Have you finished any NLs yet ? Haven't tried them yet this is my first time with that strain. :peace:

Thanks to everyone for the kind words.

ol hippy, this is my 1st attempt with Northern Lights, but so far, I couldn't be happier with them. The clones I got were looking very pitiful when I 1st got them, but now they are exploding in the tent.

Tomorrow I will do a good flush before replenishing the nutes. Hopefully my son will be around to help out this week.

Did a flush and nute change today. I noticed that the FoxFarm Big Bloom, as well as the molasses have turned my roots from white to a brownish color. When I flushed the tank with General Hydroponics Florakleen, it did whiten-up some, but still has a brownish tint to it.

I assume this is normal, as this is my 1st time with both products in hydro. Does anyone have any thoughts?

Other than that, things are stil looking great. I've noticed a few shoots that are starting to fill out on all 3 strains, so I couldn't be happier. Humidity is still down with the dryer weather, but I'm not really worrying about it anymore.
Also, I have noticed that I have had a hard time getting the ph right after a nute change, so this week, I'm trying something new. Instead of trying to ph adjust the water 1st(I have high ph water), I'm going to let the nutes even out the ph. I have also been using just tap water the last week or so, and have not noticed any effects. If this works out, it will save me a lot of time adjusting my water.
The dispensery where I work has a USB microscope, so I'll borrow it in a couple of weeks to get some trichrome pictures when they start looking good.

Oh, and my son was a no-show again. He did however show up on a work break to smoke a bowl with me, before back to the pizza making!!!:tokin:

As long as the roots don't feel slimy or smell bad, it could be color runoff from your nutes.

But, I am a newb.

Hope this helps

The roots did feel a bit slimy, but did not stink at all. With the way the Florabloom worked today, I will probably do it again next week, in accordance with the FoxFarm schedule.

I had forgotten how worked up I get with these damn illegal weeds. It is really fun seeing the look in my son's eyes as I teach him. (By the way, he is 21, and a MMJ patient, just so no one thinks I am weird. The last time I grew was when he was 1.)

Molasses in hydro is a no no:cheesygrinsmiley: I have browning roots as well on one of mine and I scared. Try to get hygrozyme. Heard many good things about it when this kind of thing happens. It's supposed to eat up old root matter and turn it into food for new root growth. Maybe myth or not but worth a try when tryna save your crop. I'll be trying it out. Drop those molasses. Good luck bro.

If you use molasses it will stain your roots. Some say it's ok in hydro some say not. Both had success, so go figure.

Hygrozyme, cannazyme, sensizyme, to name a few all work great. They convert dead plant matter into nutes the plants can use. Thus helping to keeping your res and roots clean and prevent issues.

Greetings to all.

This week, I flushed my tank again with Florakleen, to remove any molasses. All of the plants are looking good, and starting to get sticky.

Since the canopy is getting so big and dense, I took some clones from the lower branches, then added the week 7 Foxfarm nutes. There is a bit of yellowing on a few leaves, but I guess with the addition of the Foxfarm Grow Big, it will get a shot of Nitrogen.
I haven't seen any adverse effects yet from using my tap water, and after initally getting it adjusted, it has been staying right around the 6.0ph range, with only very minor down adjustments. This will make future grow much easier, as I plan on automating most of the daily functions (water levels and ph adjustments).
Other than that, there isn't much to report this week, so I'll keep it short.

1 thing I forgot to mention, I was reading up about a new product called ('Green Pads'), to generate CO2 for a growroom. I have to say that I was skeptical, but when I was in the hydro store Friday, I saw they had some, so I bought a pack of the small size (10 pads for $12). These are sized for a 10X20 domed tray to use for starting clones. It says to replace the pad every other day to promote root growth, so I'll give my report next week on what I think of them.

Day 49

Buds are starting to form nicely. I did a nute change today. Instead of using the week 8 nutes, I used week 7 again.
Temps are staying in the low 70's, both day and night time. Humidity has stabilized around 20%. I have been getting some gnats, so I put my No-Pest Strip in the tent and they are dropping like flies!

I'm really looking forward to trying out the Northern Lights. I smoked some from the Mother Plant the other day, and was blown away.

Week 8

3 of the 4 plants are doing great. After talking to the guy I got the Master Kush from, he is getting much better growth from his than I am. His plants are being grown in a greenhouse, so that might have something to do with it, I'm just not sure. He told me his are all around 4' tall and bushy. Mine on the other hand are barely staying alive and 'lanky'.

When I did my nute change, I couldn't see any roots from the plant, so I grabbed my camera and stuck it in the tank and got this shot showing there are still roots;

I guess as long as it is still hanging on, I'll let it go.

The other 3 plants are looking good and forming nice buds. No problems from any of them.

Daytime temperatures are staying around 75-77F(res. tank 70-72F) ph is around 6.0.

The last thing I have is that I got all my clones this time from the same guys. He was telling me that this strain of Northern Lights takes longer to finish, maybe 10-12 weeks, so that will push smoking back until around Christmas.
What a present this is going to be.

HAVE A GREAT WEEK!:smokin:

Week 11

Sorry for the long gap in between posts. There has been much going on. The Master Kush dried up and died. I have come to the conclusion that it was an outdoor strain. As disappointed I am about it's demise, the way the other 3 plants are doing makes up for it.

I tried getting a 200X USB microscope from my dispensary, but was unable to get the correct drivers for it and I only had it for 1 afternoon. I have since found the correct drivers and think I can borrow it again to get some trichrome pictures. I did however take a sample in to have a look at the progress, and it looks like the AK-47 is only a few days away and the Northern Lights is just starting to show some amber color.

I drained the tank and replaced the nutes with 10 gallons of water, with 3 1/2 oz. Flora-Kleen. I'm going to run this through the system until tomorrow(2 days total) then drain and replenish with fresh water only.

When I was checking on them this morning, I actually saw a couple of drops of resin, and the smell is wonderful.
If I can get the microscope again, I will post some more pictures in a few days. I think I will be able to harvest the AK-47 next Friday.

Now some bud porn!!!

Both strains have very dense buds, so I'm hopeful for a good result when I go to weigh it all.
I will weigh each plant when it is cut, then again when dried and cured and post the results.

Out of the cuttings I took, only the Northern Lights made it. I'm working on building a "EZ Clone" type cloner to save some money. I can build one as good or better for about $50(a savings of about $250 over the EZ-Clone 30).
Does anyone have any suggestions for the next crop to go along with the Northern Lights? I was thinking about Sour Diesel and Mazar-I-Sharif.

Only a couple more weeks to go!!!:tokin:
