Ebb flood & drain

Everything that I have ever read about that issue has been, variously:

  • It's not really an issue, IOW, is basically harmless (although I suppose its presence on the surface of a constantly damp substrate might attract any fungus gnats you happen to be hosting).
  • Adding H2O2 to your nutrient solution on a regular basis will discourage it AND provide a boost of oxygen, because it decomposes into H2O and O2.
  • If it really concerns you, you can cover the tops of your cubes with some sort of homemade opaque plastic thing or other.

However, yes, there are commercially-available products for that. I know that Hydrofarm is one company that makes (or at least sells) them. Do a web-search for:
Code:
rockwool block covers
...and you'll get links to them at Amazon and many hydroponics / indoor gardening stores.
