I have to hit the brakes on taking the Cali down today. I pulled her all the way over to the chopping block and sat down. I started looking around smelling something different in the air. Went upstairs for a fresh cup and Mrs. Maritimer had just gotten out of bed and came to kiss good morning. She stopped short and asked me if I was working on the lawn mower or something. I said no I am downstairs gardening. "You stink" was her words. I sniffed my hands and then I recognized the smell from the garden. Diesel

This terpenne expression is unexpected from the Cali Orange strain I have been tending. I am going to let her go for a few more days and see what comes of it. I will cut the grass outside instead. :)
 
That gas is a hole nother ballgame huh? I'm amazed at the expressions these plants are capable of. How can a single cultivar have so many different faces? You got me?

The Cali O that is coming down today has my attention. Yesterday I snipped off a shoot for a better picture under the scope. I suck at that kind of photography also. Anyhow, I chopped up the bud and left it out on the desk overnite. My thoughts were the first bone of the day I could check out the flavor and buzz a bit, before I start hitting dabs for the back pain. The plan (like so many others) did not work out. The test sample is way too wet to smoke in a joint. This is with the central air on and humidity low. Normally if I chop up a bud and leave it out, the next day it is plenty dry enough to sample. Not "Juicy Lucy" here.

All I know is my recently harvested Gorilla Glue auto has a real strong diesel/chemical aroma/taste, I haven't experienced that diesel character before in a strain before. It is isn't such a nice scent really but hey, I'm not in for the aromas! But yes, like you I wonder what the terpene is that is responsible.

Thanks to @stoneotter for the chart, altho I didn't spot what the 'diesel' smell could be, I presume it would be in the 'Earthy' grouping.

It has been my experience that more often than not, droughted plants will look rough. The longer they endure, the more it shows. This Cali we are running was intentionally short vegged and is only in a 3.5 gallon container. I wanted her to stay on the petite side going into flower. For drought considerations keep in mind the taller plants are also more rapidly affected by the loss of water. The shorter, stocky plants can go deep into drought and still look good. Also we have noticed the meja applications might be influencing the duration of active bloom, as the plants linger in flower they assume more mass. The appearance of "fox tails" giving away the extended bloom.

I have wanted to have a go with some end of life cycle photon deprivation, but cannot pull it off in my layout. Only idea I have was if plant was small enough, put it under a dark upside down garbage can to cover it. Best of luck to you. We hope it adds to your rewards. :)

We have a green light from a garden scheduling perspective to begin waterboarding four seeds. This has always been a tricky time for me in selecting what cannabis strains to run together. Truth be told, I usually struggle to acquire the seed stock either because I am broke, or US Customs is busy intercepting my major shipments (10/15 seeds) from Europe. I end up using whatever I can rummage up from the "seed Locker" in my fridge.

Thanks to some genuine 420 :love:, I am no longer as wanting for the precious little balls. Gifts of the reproductive gems have came from the far east, and the California coastline. Perhaps most exciting is my dear friend up in the US NE corner. There is more good than just Boston Beans coming out of the Mass. these days. My bro has gone and turned himself into a breeder.

Thanks to him, I am now sitting on the stock that I will make him famous with. :bongrip:

Ahoy matey, these were vegged long and pruned heavily. The plants had a distinct wet and dry cycle. i didn't do any half waterings through veg, and also made sure they wilted a few times in veg. just so I knew when they had used up all the water in the pot. The fibrous roots were super dense at each up pot too.

I should've done leaf angle measurements during the last drought. I have a feeling they were wilted enough after day 5 or 6.

I really don't expect much to happen while letting them sit in the dark. I do know that many say to harvest in the morning before the sun heats up the plant's surface and some volatile terpenes are evaporated. I'm thinking the extra day or 2 in the dark may let the plant accumulate those terpenes before chop time. Probably just an excuse for me to prolong harvest and accumulating the buckets and RO water and lemon juice needed for a proper bud wash.

I just got a picture from @survivorx2 garden. This is bud porn to me at it's finest. I look at the flower and see the gardener I planted about a year ago. The best feeling you might ever experience tending to your cannabis can come from teaching someone else to garden the plant. The gift of 420 :love:

A few months back I knocked over a flowering (6 weeks) seedsman cheese lady that was blooming full throttle. I loved her so...
She went into complete abiotic shock and was taken to the harvest room for a disappointing chop. That created an opening in the bloom room for this Cali clone that was intended originally as a mother plant for meja studies at the same time we came in to a bunch of new seed stock. I jumped on the new strains and threw the mother plant to the wolves. Now I am smoking her. What a world. So, to answer your question I did not run a control plant. All data from this drought & meja plant are for reference only. I will do the pulls and record the extraction results for my analysis, but nothing empirically sound can be observed without the control/delta balance.

The gardens summer run waterboarding has been successful, germinating 5 for 5. The seeds were first given a 4 hour bath in willow brass wherein the "sink test" was conducted. All seeds either had sank or sank after being tapped down by the end of the 4 hour willow bath @ 10:30 am.

At 12:30 pm the next day (14 hours later) all tap roots were extended except LSD. A few hours later the LSD popped.

All plants are now in pre-veg working to break the surface.
The StankBerry X Northern Lights and the PC both sank on contact with the water. :)
