I think of the first week (or so) as the seedling stage, when the plant just has cotyledons and is getting its sugars from the remaining germ in the seed. Fertilizer isn’t needed yet - in fact, is detrimental.

Once the seedling has developed some roots and the first pair of true leaves have spread out, it’s ready to start generating sugars from photosynthesis. This is when veg stage starts, and you can begin to introduce a weak dose of nutrients.

Think of light as the plant’s real food, and nutrients as vitamins that assist the metabolic processes.

I just consider veg from the time it sprouts. I try to keep everything as simple as I can.

I was looking into how long I will have anything of my own grow to smoke and it just seems so far away. I was wondering if I ordered a few auto seeds and planted them can they spend there whole life cycle in 18 and 6 or if I ordered now and planted say next week or the week after would I get something say around Christmas?

Some autos might yield in 8 weeks. Don’t know of any faster than that.

I don't think an auto would be too much faster I think they are usually 90 days from seed to harvest. You could always flip your current plants after a month they would finish in a similar timeline.

That, in itself, is pretty incredible, when you think about photos, even 11/13 from seed, seem to require about 3 weeks to mature enough to be able to flower.

Most autos start showing pistils between 18 to 36 days - some can go as long as 50-60 days before flowers start.

Then, most strains, including Indicas, need at least 7 weeks to get into an early harvest window.

So 8 weeks total is bonkers.

Well, that's okay, it will just be a nice treat then for in the new year. And maybe next grow once this one is completed i will try some autos and compare the difference. Thanks for the advice again. You guys are awesome and always right there if I need.

Also, I‘ve grown my Autos at 24/0, but I wouldn’t advise that if your light(s) put out more than 500 PPFD.

Another question guys, my two lights have both veg and bloom switches. I've been running with just the veg switches on but I've read that you should have both switches on for both veg and bloom. I've also read to only use the veg switch during veg. What would you guys do? Both switches or just the veg switch on??

I'd run both, remember the sun is full spectrum light and we're trying to duplicate nature indoors.

I will turn both on. I was leaning that way, just thought I would ask. I don't see how it could hurt them. Also I have my lights down to 24" so I'll have to keep an eye on them for the first few hours of lights on

Now that I'm home I can also post an update. This would be day 5 of veg. I think they are coming along amazing! Except for the WW seems to be stunted. Im not to worried still green just didn't really grow much at all while I was away where the other two took off. ( Well seemed like it to me) let me know what you guys think! I'm pretty pumped!
