The title is pretty much self explanitory but I'll give you the rundown first.

meet my girl "Lil Cheezy"

Dropped her seed into a glass of water on January 20th. So from seed we are 24 days at this point.

I built a DWC system consisting of 2 black 5 gallon buckets connected together by a section of 1 1/2 pcv pipe all sealed up with uniseals. 1 bucket for Cheezy and the other for a res. on the res bucket I installed a spin on lid for easy access. 6 inch netpot lid for the girl. 20w 45lph air pump hooked up to an 8" round diffuser with 3/8" silicone tubing. Lots of bubbles!!!

Nutes...I'm using General Hydro flora micro and flora bloom in the Lucas Ratio formula of 8ml:16ml per gallon
currently PPM is set at 100 using RO water. I am using Great White at their suggested dosage to get some bennies in there. I have some kool bloom booster to add when I switch to flower. Trying to keep the whole nute thing simple for my first grow.

3.5 x 3.5 x 6 grow tent...thats feet not meters I have a 4" duct running to a 6" inline fan mounted in my attic with a 6" duct running to an outside vent about 30 feet above ground. Pulls negative pressure easily and no noise from the fan in the attic.

LED light is a Vipar 600w (120x5 diodes) actual wall draw as measured with my trusty Killawatt is 305 watts.
It is a 10 band spectrum with UV. Got it off flea bay for $175 shipped to my front door. I got it before I was a member of this site otherwise I would have gone with TOP LED...sorry next time guys. This light is bright as hell...I wear shade 5 welding sunglasses when I'm under it. Ought to be plenty for my 1 plant setup.


Room temps range from 75-89 degrees. I need to get my room temps down to a constant 75.

Res temps range from 75 to 80 degrees. I need to get my res temps down to 65ish.

RH in the tent hovers between 25-30% I need to get some moisture in there.

To kill 2 birds with one stoner I came up with the idea for a DIY swamp cooler that will drop temps and raise humidity at the same time. I am also building a 260w DIY Peltier chiller for my res. I'm almost done with the chiller. I'll post some pics soon.

I PH my water every couple days down to 5.5 and let it creep back up to 6.1 (2-3 days) wash rinse repeat.
I Check all vital grow room stats twice a day.

We will be attempting to flux her out Light Addict style...sorry dude I just got your fingerprints on my trainwreck...hmmm trainwreck haven't smoked that in ages. I attempted to FIM her today for the chance to run a Dual Fluxed Waffle. If it works and I get 4 mains then sweet. If I missed and I get 2 mains then sweet. IDC I just want to grow something beautiful. We will see soon enough which way to flux it.

Since I'm in DWC buckets I built what I would describe as a torture rack looking horizontal trellis to hold her down in all the right places. I do have a pic to post but it's not letting me post anything at the moment.


Anyway thats where I am at as of today. Did I miss anything? PLEASE post up any information, thoughts, ideas, dirty jokes. All input is welcome.

you can run res at temps from 69-75 76 ish without issue
80 is definitely high
my res hardly ever even gets low as 69 im usually in the low to mid 70's in my res
but I do weekly res changes

Just some aluminum angle drilled to accept 1/8" aluminum TIG welding rod. The rods slide in and out easily so I can add or subtract rods at any time. I'll use ties made from the same rod for the opposite axis like so...

The ties can slide side to side to allow for adjustment and tweeking my girl. Ill secure the main rails to the bucket lid with some industrial velcro to allow for repositioning if needed.

What do you guys think? Will it work?

Here are some pics of my unfinished and untested Peltier chiller

It uses two 136 watt Peltier devices. Each Peltier is sandwiched between a waterblock and a cpu cooler. Its all powered by a 30amp 12vdc power supply. There is a digital temperature controller with a thermal probe for inside the res.

I guess adding this to my system will turn this into a RDWC because there will be a pump inside my res pumping to the chiller then into Cheezy's bucket.

Hope it works. Ive got about $95 dollars into all the parts. I think for my 6-7 gallons of nute solution it should work awesome. This will be placed outside my tent to avoid raising ambient temps any.

If you havent noticed yet I'm a DIY nutjob...hate to buy something I can make for less lol.

looks great just make sure the pump in the res doesn't negate what your trying to do as pumps in the water create heat in itself

what I do for myself is run my airlines in front of the ac

good thinking about the pump raising temps...hmmm has to be mounted below water level as the pump does not self prime. I could run some 1" pcv into the bottom of the res with a uniseal and use that as an outlet to the pump. I just hate any holes in the bucket below water level but it seems the easiest solution.

Root porn

So she's a shorty for sure...3 inches tall but 6 inches wide. Is it just me or does she have super tight node spacing?

I dried her out on accident when going from seedling tray to netpot. She was to high up in the pot and wasn't stretching down to the water. I was hand watering twice daily but at my temps she dried out and we lost some roots. As soon as i repositioned lower in the pot BAM roots galore. just slow vertical growth.

Hello my 420 friends

Time for an update. Things are going great and Cheezy is going strong. Still no explosion of vertical growth but the root mass has tripled in size. Well here she is at day 29 from seed...lets call it day 27 of veg.

The coolest thing thats happened with the grow is that my DIY Peltier chiller actually works!!! I am very pleased by its performance. My res temps were ranging from 75 to 80 degrees. Now it's at a perfect 65 degrees constantly. Thats with tent temps that get as high as 88 degrees.

I did end up putting the pump in the res. I put my hand on it after it had been running for 24 hours and it wasn't even warm. So I got lucky there. As you can see all the lines are insulated and light proofed.

The chiller pulls 200w to run so my total tent wattage is at 604 watts. Thats lights pumps everything.

I did a res change when I installed the chiller so Cheezy got fresh nutes I set ppm @ 200 she hasnt showed any signs of burn so I'll up them a bit higher soon.

She's almost tall enough to start her on the rack. Another week or so and I'll start to tie her up.

I stripped the lower branches so I could fill the net pot with more hydroton. The pebble level was too low allowing light to get into the res. It was starting to smell a little swampy. Its much better now.

circuit breaker I use specifically for my grow the rest of the house is on another which is how it was originally wired
I just had 2 extra spots one was used for my bedroom specifically now the other one is used specifically on one outlet for the grow
but I don't wanna push it and have problems but even tho I don't have 65 degree res temps
knock on wood I been ok

Yeah I have 1 outlet on a 15 amp breaker to run my system. Thats one of the main reasons I went LED was to reduce power consumption so I didnt have to have an electrician come out and wire in an extra breaker $$$.

well im at a point wehre id have to change the box to a bigger one so i can accept a new breaker or 2 and have spare spots open but as electricity is so damn expensive here i want to keep it to a minimum

Well...things are not going so well. We had a hot day here. My tent temps hit 100 degrees and Lil Cheezy was all shriveled up. I am crying on the inside for her.

I did finish my diy swamp cooler and it did drop temps 5 degrees or so and raised my RH about 10% but it can't keep up on a hot day. So I'm shelling out the cash for an 8000 btu portable a/c unit tonight. If that can't cool it ill have to relocate my tent to a cooler part of the house.

Cheesy does have some new growth shooting up from where I fimmed her so I haven't tossed her yet but I did drop another seed incase the damage is too severe. I'll post pics tonight when I get the a/c installed.

Hello my 420 friends May your gardens stink like ripe cheese or rotting fruit.

Alright!!! New a/c unit installed in the tent. It's taking up too much real estate so this weekend ill work on building a duct for the front so I can remote mount it outside the tent. I have room behind the tent so I may just cut a pass-through for the entire unit so just the front panel and vent is in the tent.

The a/c unit was the most expensive piece of equipment in this grow but such is life. When I saw my temps at 100 deg. the other night I knew I had to do something fast. The a/c unit is an 8000btu LG unit from the local home store. Dropped tent temps immediately. I've got it set at 75F for now. Good reviews on a few big sites so I'm optimistic this is a permanent solution.

Now onto my poor piece of tasty cheeze. She got hit hard by the temps and what I thought was low humidity/high heat stress looks to be more like a cal/mag deficiency. What do you guys think?

Please tell me if you think that I'm battling a cal/mag issue. I've read LED grows with RO water need cal/mag suppliment and I have been adding GH calimag but at a very weak dose. So I added some to the res tonight at the recommended dosage. it raised my ppm a bit but she's a month old now so She can probably handle it.


She does have some new growth where I fimmed her

the new growth looks kinda rough, leaves are twisted a bit but it is a very healthy green and the growth feels soft so I'm not gonna chop her...I VOW TO SAVE HER!!! I've got a month into this grow and shes my first so I'm gonna man up and if she hermies or gives me .0001 gram per watt I'll still love her.

I'm still hoping to flux her out looks but looks like I topped her instead of fimmed so no DFW this go round.

So I introduced myself to Cheezy's Lil sister. Same seed batch same genetics 00Seeds CheeseBerry.
. I'll gift her to a friend if Cheezy recovers. Still only planning on a 1 plant harvest.

just checked on the tent and it's soo nice in there Total tent wattage with the a/c blowing on low is 1100 watts. So I'm running at 9.8 amps on a 15 amp breaker. I hope she bounces back and starts growing damnit!!! I've almost killed her twice now lol.
