I am attempting my first grow I'm going with autoflowers and outdoor since I have no lights or equipment and a small house and huge yard , I have three autoflower seeds sprouted "durban poison" in 5 gallon root pouches with recipe 420 soil and the sprouted seeds are about 6inch deep by 6 inch wide section black gold seedling starter in the pot.
My question is I have a garden area full sun I'd like to have them there to keeps dogs out of them but temps allready 80s up to 90° here where I'm at nor cal bay area can thay handle that or should I leave I'm some shade for awhile ? The veggies there are going fine , Any input appreciated and thanks for reading !

Grow Journal of the Month: Nov 2018 - Plant of the Month: Dec 2020
I live in San Jose where the temps can reach 100F in the summer. My plants have done fine - just make sure they get plenty of water during the heat waves.

Did you say you planted your seeds 6 inches deep? I believe that is too deep. Once they show a tap root, I put them into soil with only about 1/2" covering them.

All right, congrats RF - looking good, new clone plus you’ve got beans breaking ground there too!!!

On the clone, you have transplanted it and I assume you have watered it in.... am I right??? Now let it go for at least 2 or 3 days before watering again, those roots need to learn to search for water. This will help build the wet / dry cycles on the plant and develop a stronger root system. No nutrients are needed for a while still, your soil should feed them easy for couple weeks.

When you do start nutes remember start low like 1/4 strength. You can mist the leaves early in morning or late in evening but probably not a good idea in direct sun.

PS you probably already know this stuff, wanted to add just in case you didn’t know. Not a grow master here but trying to help out!

Excellent! My first attempt was pitiful, a whole lot of good beans died, I slaughtered every seedling. Overwatered, too strong nutes, poor environment, finally I got busy and did some homework on this site!

Tell me about your water source? Is it tap or well water? Are you testing ph or ppm, or ec? If it’s straight tap water then you need to look at your city or county water source website to see which chemical they use either chlorine or chloramine. These chemicals make drinking water safe for consumption but either one can damage your plants.

If I remember correctly- chlorine can be off gassed by letting your water set out in a bucket overnight, for chloramine I believe it’s 1 vitamin C tablet for a bathtub sized amount of water, so about a 1/4 tab per 5 gallon bucket. Other options are RO water, or store bought spring water, some even collect their rainwater. Just know this - if it’s straight tap municipal water (not private well) then it’s gonna cause problems. That’s all I got for now, hope it helps.

Tap water, but today I set up a 15 gallon plastic trash can for decloranating and picked up a Ph control kit with the testing solution ph up and ph down so can ph my water and a 2 gallon watering can ! Next on my list is some nutrients...
Also cant believe how fast these seeds are growing every day hope they keep this pace up !

Roger that. Glad to hear you got it under control, never doubted you. Initially I was not aware that tap water carried enough chemicals to harm plants. Seems counterintuitive but there is a reason for every deficiency and it shows up in leaves of our plants. Keep up the good work!

I believe the recipe 420 soil your using comes with nutrients so be careful adding more.
I don't worry much about water PH in soil. The soil PH is more important.

Besides Mega Crop look into top dressing with dry organic , like Happy frog fruit and flower, 4-9-3
I tried both fertilizers side by side and plants didn't look much different. Planning to go hybrid with both
for second crop of outdoor autos.
