First Grow Jack Herer Auto In Coco, Gaia Green Organics

Hey guys,

its a pleasure to make my first post in this community after lurking for a long while. I've finally just started my first grow, and will be documenting the journey through here to hopefully get some advice, and share my first attempt.

I will be trying the infamous method of growing in coco coir with Gaia Greens slow-release organic nutes.

I germinated my seed, and planted it yesterday. I used a 5 gallon fabric pot with cana-coco coir, 10% perlite, 10 tbsp 4-4-4 Gaia Green all purpose and 5 tbsp 2-8-4 Gaia Green bloom. I've kept the 1000W LED light up all night long and will be running it either 18/6 or 24/0, i'm not sure yet. I've been watering twice a day, once in the morning and once at night. Hoping I can see a little seedling pop shortly!

Welcome aboard

Does the time release nutes work in Coco?
It dosent hold onto anything really, seems like not a great option
Interested to see how it works for u

Also natural light pics are best... really hard to see anything if and when u ask for help

Good luck

Thank you! I am hoping it will, I guess time will tell. I have 3 seeds, I'll be planting them all one week apart from each other to try and save the last two if I kill the first one through newbie mistakes  I will be posting with lights off, the seedling just hasn't popped up yet so there's nothing to see except for the setup

The slow release protocol seems to be to feed only 3 times for the whole grow, as the nutes are slowly released in the coco as you water the plants. I'm trying this method specifically because it seems to require less work

coco nutes will wash thru fast, and coco plants need water daily. multiple times per day in flower.

you will need hydro nutes suited for coco. that gaia stuff is meant to hang around, you are not in a compatible media at all for that style of nute.

GAIA GREEN All Purpose is an excellent fertilizer for landscapes and gardens.

that from their website,,

seems to reference 'soil' , tho does not specifically state that

cheers friend :ciao:

I understand its a very controversial way, I was able to read many threads about it. There is a youtuber, Mr Canucks, being very successful with this simple method. Some members here have replicated the method successfully, albeit with a lot of surprise to the community:

I am hoping I can also get great results with this method, as it is much simpler than constantly feeding the autos with nutes at every watering

I have been watering now approximately twice per day, every 12 hours or so. I water only around the seedling, and put around 2oz every watering, with PH around 6.2. I'm having difficulties keeping humidity up and temps down. I've opened every trap now hoping it'll bring it back down to around 23-24. How do you guys think she looks?

She seems to be doing decently well, almost 2 weeks in now. The plant seems to have trouble standing up, and bends very easily when I water it. If there's wind it also bends over and stays there under its own weight. Anyone knows why the stem is not strong enough? Is this normal at this stage?

The plant is doing very well. We're now day 17 from seedling, and we have a few pistils showing. I started LST'ing it already as I think it can take it. Tomorrow I will be planting two others, who are almost done germinating.

Day 25 from seedling. She's starting to grow. I started supplementing cal mag, slowly creeping up to the recommended dosage over a week, currently feeding 0.75ml/L. I top dressed for the first time today, did a bit more LST and cut a few fan leaves that were in the way of pistils. As of now there's 10-11 pistils that are decently well exposed to light, the plant should be entering flowering in a week or two

She's doing very well. We're now day 31 from seedling, she's growing bigger and seems to be preparing to enter flower in the next few weeks. Still feeding 1ml calmag every day with the watering. I started watering at 6.5-6.8 PH because I was getting some discoloration on the leaves at 6.0-6.5, and it seems to be doing the trick

Day 39. I can't believe how big she got in just 8 days. She's drinking much more now, and I think flowering has begun? This being my first grow, I'm not even sure what beginning of flower looks like

I will be top-dressing again in about a week. I'm starting to notice the tip of the leaves are discolored, much lighter in color than the rest of the leaves. The canopy has also grown back even bigger than before, and some bottom leaves are starting to die or discolor strongly. I'm not sure what to do with the discoloration of the tips, adjusting the PH to 6.5-6.8 helped a lot but it seems the tips won't change. Should I be worried about either this or some bottom fan leaves dying?

Day 48 today, tomorrow marks 7th week. I had a Calcium deficiency issue, which I fixed by increasing CalMag to 4ml/day and defoliating. The plant is starting to produce much bigger and frostier buds. It will definitely be a successful first run.

I updated my setup, turned the grow tent 90 degrees since it was higher than it was large, I was able to gain around 2 sqf of grow space. I now have 3 Banana Kush seedlings, and will be running a 5/5/5 flower/veg/seed cycle with it. More Jack Herer, and 5x Moby Dick XXL are coming in the mail.

In all cases, i'll stop posting updates since nobody cares. If anyone finds this thread through search and has questions about this method feel free to PM me.

Cheers!

Hey man, I stumbled upon your journal after reminiscing. Looks like things are going well for you. I'm going to follow you if you want to keep posting.

Hey brother, thanks for tuning in. I started a new journal for the new grow, and it's just as popular. You can find it here:
