Governor Rick Scott signed legislation known as Charlotte’s Web into law Monday. This will allow for a a low-THC cannabis, known as Charlotte’s Web, to be used to treat certain illnesses such as epilepsy in children. Governor Scott signed Senate Bill 1030 and 1700 approving the medication and protecting patient information in the compassionate use registry. Governor Scott said, “As a father and grandfather, you never want to see kids suffer. The approval of Charlotte’s Web will ensure that children in Florida who suffer from seizures and other debilitating illnesses will have the medication needed to improve their quality of life. I am proud to stand today with families who deserve the ability to provide their children with the best treatment available.”

This bill is VERY limited in scope. Even the strain is limited it seems. Only those nurseries who have been in continuous operations for 30 years can apply to be a grower. Limited number of dispensaries as well.
Amendment 2 on the ballot this Nov. is a much broader option for those in medical need.
