Hi, I just scored 2, 3 lamp (two lights each), fluorescent set ups, and was thinking about wiring both sets together for a total of up to 12 four foot 40 Watt bulbs. I would be using this in a 4X4 tent. My question is, is this too much or should I make it 10 or 8 bulbs? Thanks for your help!

Not too much at all, especially when using CFLs. Only issue from using a ton of light is heat which can be controlled.

I should also add that when you begin your grow the baby plants will not need a ton of light. One CFL will do enough for 1-4 plants to get seeds to sprout. All the energy a seed needs to begin is already within the seed. The light simply gives it direction of growth and begins the chlorophyll process. (If you have ever started a seed in a paper towel you will see what I mean.) If you are growing from clones I would begin with half the lights on, and then after two weeks flip the rest on.
