Several former NFL stars are flying into Phoenix, getting ready for a marijuana summit.

On Tuesday, they will be speaking about how the drug worked for their chronic pain, head injuries and major ailments.

Former New Orleans Saints lineman and San Diego All American tackle, Kyle Turley will be with the group, pushing the NFL to allow pot in the league.

"You don't understand how bad you're going to be hurting," said Turley.

Turley says in the world of football, pain pills are popped like candy.

After going down a dark road, he turned solely to medical marijuana. And he claims it saved hislife.

"There's nothing that's going to change about this sport as far as injuries are concerned," said Turley. "What needs to change is how we address the injuries and the medications to treat them."

That's why he's here in Arizona, getting ready for the Southwest Cannabis Expo, to talk with other former NFL stars Ricky Williams and Eben Britton.

"We're here to fight for this, for medicine for us, not only for our kidneys and our livers, but for our minds," said Turley.

Turley says he hopes the smoke will clear and the NFL will change its stance on not allowing marijuana in the league.

"To keep football going and have these little kids put pads and helmets on, they need to start looking about this in a very serious way," said Turley.

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell has said the NFL will "follow the science" and right now, their medical professionals are not touting marijuana.

Turley has created his own group, Gridiron Cannabis Coalition, to spread his message.
