Funny First Grow Outdoor/Balcony OG Kush + Grape Ape

New Member
i have read many posts and followed along with quite a few journals.
i joined 420 because of the responses ive seen people give to NOVICE growers.
i am NOT one of those spontaneous growers, that thinks they can grow because theyve read a few posts and feel ready. It took me a while to reassure myself. reassuring meaning, i wanted to make sure my MOM couldnt find out.
i also wanted to make sure i had proper funding for this project.
i stay home, take care of my lizards, my pitbull, and make music when i can.
i plan on growing from this day forward, and only for personal use, and hopefully i can yield an unexpected amount to enjoy with the rest of my homies.

STRAINS:
1. OG Kush - i was breakin up some dank, and a little seed dropped.
2. Grape ape - this was some reggie i picked up in a local dispensary, a couple seeds dropped from this batch.
3. Incredible Hulk - i had about 10 seeds from multiple batches from the same grower. supposed to be a 70/30 indica.

LIGHTS:
NATURAL SUNLIGHT. i see the sun hit my balcony from around 9-930 a.m to about 6-630 p.m i have read a couple posts where they say you can give your plants too much sunlight and mess things up. how the leaves would dry up quicker and that the root system cant supply and quicky hydrate.... please... if you have more information on this, you are more than welcome to help me out!

TEMP: its been around 76-80 degrees consistently around the daytime, and around mid 60s at night. these past couple nights have been a bit colder however, maybe around the low 60s. shouldnt be a problem right?

MEDIUM:
1. natural, supposedly organic Kellogg brand soil. again, i am on a super tight budget and i think this was the better choice, for i have tried miracle-gro. i think miracle-gro soil is great for seedlings IMO.
2. miracle-gro perlite. i know some people say this is a mistake, but again i am on a tight budget, and this was the better choice for me.

NUTES:
i got some of that kellogg tomato, herb or whatever fert, and i havent even used it. 4-6-4. i am scared to use nutes at the moment. i always thought just soil and water would do the trick. should i start using nutes? i will get to how far i am in vegging as soon as i can. i also have blood meal from miracle-gro with 12-0-0. this also i cam scared to use.

I am using the paper towel method, being the most successful one. i have used this method on about 10 seeds so far, and all have opened up.
i then just plant the seeds in plastic dixie cups and let them grow for a little bit. i then get my medium ready and transplant into 3 liter pots, to be then transplanted into a 3gallon for the finale. i dont plan on growing trees or anything above 3ft since my neighbors would be able to see it!

every seed i plant i try something different, so i can further my knowledge on what specific actions results in what. i tried overwatering a couple on purpose, and underwatering a couple as well. they both survived for a couple weeks doing this.

i mixed about 60/40 with the kellogg and perlite. like i said im starting my seeds in plain miracle-gro(the moisture control kind) i liked the way my seedlings looked and how firm their stem was. i do get gusty winds in my balcony that sometimes bends the hell outa my little guys. ive also read about windburn, how it can really mess up your leaves and make them wrinkley? anyone with more knowledge on this?

yea, i dont even know if theyll be male or female. this is just a project and hopefully lessons to learn as i grow them. the males i will still keep and grow for the heck of it, and see if i can make a zillion seeds! :goodluck:

i should have started this journal as my little seedlings started to pop up, but better now than never.

ive went through some ups and downs with these little guys, being my first grow. my last problem was a straight downhill and no hope for return type of problem. (IMO)

i will post pictures as soon as possible. til then, no stress weed, only high percent please!:tokin:

Re: Funny first grow OUTDOOR/BALCONY ogkush+grapeape

how does this look to you?
59247_1411672340855_1503914826_30854377_5266938_n1.jpg

damn.... and she turns out to be a female.... my damn dog wasnt being a good dog and trashed everything in my room. soil, to books, EVERYTHING was EVERYWHERE. i found all 4 of my plants out of their pots, chewed up, medium scattered everywhere.... of course Boonie(my dog) dont even care...
this is my Grape Ape seed a few days after she opened up and started her seedling stage.
59015_1411664220652_1503914826_30854324_43603_n1.jpg

Here you see her doing splendid a few weeks in just plain ol miracle gro potting soil. (the moisture control kind) i know what people say about the soil, but i still had to try it for myself and make mistakes. however i dont see how miracle-gro products are that bad. i think the moisture control part is shady cos we all like to water our girls.... eh...
61615_1411666900719_1503914826_30854346_6487909_n1.jpg

58702_1411666220702_1503914826_30854341_1420320_n.jpg

then i come home to this last night....
60375_1411669940795_1503914826_30854364_4764433_n1.jpg

60375_1411669900794_1503914826_30854363_2360596_n.jpg

and she was just starting to show her five blades =[ i was so excited to see full size leaves, but sh*t happens i guess...
i leave my damn dog in his crate now. lesson SUPER learned.
59030_1411671340830_1503914826_30854368_3458547_n.jpg

i tried repotting grape, but her roots were just done... the OG plant i couldnt even replant that sucker... it was just a stem flattened out and no roots. so pissed....
59247_1411672380856_1503914826_30854378_2305574_n1.jpg

i dont think shes going to pull thru... her new growth leaves are dying off as well... i dont know what to do at this point, i think its mainly the roots being shocked... what can i do? are there remedies i can perform to bring her back to life thriving again? im just so bummed to see she was a female.. =[ we couldve made love haha!
both my incredilbes have been flattened out too. but they were male suspects anyways =/
i am going to start over!

Re: Funny first grow OUTDOOR/BALCONY ogkush+grapeape

i didnt have to cut off her leaves, but they just had to go. i couldnt stand looking at a dying plant without trying to do anything to it. i just wanted to cut off the dying parts so the plant can focus more on trying to push those leaves out. i know i shoulda left her alone and see if her leaves pull thru, but again... the whole damn plant with the roots were hanging out the pot for at least an hour
back to step 1. no hurry. this is all for self knowledge. im not tryna sit behind this damn computer reading everyones journals without making moves myself.
59420_1411665940695_1503914826_30854338_6351430_n1.jpg

i only used these seed starters or whatever for the heck of it... eh its a waste of time and money i think, even though theyre dirt cheap

Re: Funny first grow OUTDOOR/BALCONY ogkush+grapeape

this is just some of the material and supplies i use.

im on a tight budget, but it doesnt stop me from trying to get what i think is best for my situation while at the same time provide whats needed to my plants. i also have lizards and a dog, but i wont be spending money on my lzards for a while since theyre in hibernation.
this is what my lizards home looks like
59030_1411671500834_1503914826_30854372_2541372_n1.jpg

its like a 8ft by 2.5ft? dunno i just put a gang of cypress mulch and cocobark and voila. i absolutely love cultivation. it is my new passion.

Re: Funny first grow OUTDOOR/BALCONY ogkush+grapeape

any comments or recommendations are more than appreciated. thanks yall and keep it 420! ill update as my seeds pop open. so far i have started germinating 5 incredilbe hulk seeds. i am not too familiar with this strain, but it was good previous dank. name tells it all. this strain had my homies feelin so damn destructive. no joke. one homie was goin all out thinkin he can f**k anyone and everybody up. lol. to me? the high was just a chill relaxed social type of high. very open minded when i smoked it. eh ionno how to explain =D:lot-o-toke:

Re: Funny first grow OUTDOOR/BALCONY ogkush+grapeape

i wonder if these pics are not showing to other people.... i am now vegging my incredible seedlings.

i named them Incredible0-5

Incredible0 has popped up 9/19 and has been vegging since then. ive put here next to my window where sunlight hits, but i noticed her stretching so fast so i had to do something.... i left her out for one more day before i decided to sacrifice a section of my closet....

Incredible1-5 have all popped up but 2 of them sprouted 9/20 and others 9/21 and 9/22
i started vegging these on 9/22 so incredible0 is ahead by 3 days.

LIGHTS:
i was using (2) 42watt 6500k CFLs with each having their own domes. i had all 5 plants in 18oz solo cups, except increible0 which was in one of those really small pots home depot sells their tiny plants in.....

i am now using a 50/50 balanced spectrum with (4) 42watt CFLs, with (2) 2700k and (2) 6500k.

i kinda made this DIY reflector/hood or whatever with some wire hangers and an emergency blanket.

my mom walks in my room and i know she dont want me putting nothing up on the walls or anything, but she seems to be fine with what im growing haha. so dopee!:slide:

i bought (3) Y splitter sockets to fit 4 bulbs under this hood. you can picture how its done =P

MEDIUM:
incredible0 was planted in plain miracle-gro(moisture control kind) <--- i know now.................. although i think theyre pretty good for seedling imho i mean the moisture part got to me and i wanted to try it out =/

incredible1-5 was in a mix of the same miracle-gro soil with 25% added perlite.
i transplanted all 5 plants in 3liter pots with that organic patio soil from kellogg that i got from home depot.
i kinda flushed the perlite with reg tap water and then mixed it with the soil to a 75/25 mix

i think the plants are loving the soil.

NUTES:
ive added very little of the miracle-gro plant food stuff. i was on a budget that day and bought whatever i thought was necessary, but obviously bought some garbage. the N-P-K rating on this MG plant food is 24-8-16. i used 1/4 then 1/2 for a total of 2 feedings with this added
other than that its just been some superthrive and mollasses

if i find any males i think i might throw them out where my lizard lives, i wont hack em down cos they got balls but rather just grow em for the color. i love green btw damnit.... i love cultivation but basil was a lot harder than this i think hahaha

pics coming soon!

Re: Funny first grow OUTDOOR/BALCONY ogkush+grapeape

ok so i figured out about the pictures and i think i will start posting the Incredibles. i only have a few pictures but bare with me :blunt:

i was careless and didnt write down the date these pictures were taken. but here they are.

i came home to this one night.....

but all my walls are painted white so i guess its whatevers....

this is whats in so far with that DIY cfl hood i made with some wire coat hangers i had layin around and an emergency blanket i got at big5

ill put up more pics of the rest of the Incrediblez til then No stress weed only high percent please!:cough:

Very nice man. i like your closet setup haha! Sorry about the destruction your dog did, shit happens man, you live you learn.

I don't know why you're giving nutes so early, i though (especially seedlings) don't require nutes for at least a couple of weeks. And if then, you don't go to 1/2 strength till their larger. I liked your sunlight idea, i do that at my place. Have her outside from 7am-12pm, then i move her into a room where the sunlight lasts from 12pm-3:30pm. Then in the closet she goes from 3:30pm-12am. I get around ~17~18 hours. My average temperatures are 80-90 range.

anyways :goodluck: ill be watchin :)

Thanks for stopping by xbox4him!

yea man the nutes.... i just kinda tried it out haha

im just very open to what will happen next, it can be either bad or good and ill be fine with it.

true i didnt notice a growth spurt or anything with the MG nutes,

oh and ive only used it twice, and it was 1/8 the recommended each time instead of 1/4 and 1/2 i got it mixed up.

i read somewhere that near the end of summer, which in cali its actual, the sun emmits more of the red spectrum? does this cause flower from birth? i wana try everything for christs sake there is no ending to this hahaha!:reading420magazine:

thanks again for droppin in! ill post pictures soon mate

MG!!!!!!
have herd bad thing about that stuff, used it once for a project.
as with it having slow realese nute's it was hard to get the nute's right resulting in burn, stunt growth, under feed or over feed!
ppl recommend not to use this product!
hope this help's n as the super thrive that is 1 great product dose well for stressed out plants,re-potting exctra.
:goodluck:on your grow.

thank you shmicky!:)

as far as the MG, i stopped after those solo cups. doesnt seem to bother them that there are other brand soils mixed with this MG, but the last transplant into 3gal will all be organic
kellogg as well.i hope the girls dont mind....

as far the MG nutes, i think people dont have too much negativity towards it, besides that i could get better nutes if i spend a little more...

pics in a little! keep it blazed mang:grinjoint::grinjoint::grinjoint:

i hear ya Showtime and thanks for droppin in!

thanks for the input as i am leaning more towards FFOF now, ive read nasty articles about the MG. how a big company like Scotts can produce junk like it using the worst inorganic components and whatnot. only good thing i read was the PRICE, and their "organic" line of miracle-gro....

i will be using anything else than MG soil from now on.:wood:

so heres an update of how the ladies are doing :tokin:

my tap water is 7.0ph and last watering with just mollasses, the runoff was 6.9ph
i think i will start putting those MG nutes i purchased to use. maybe next week or so we'll see

i took 4 snapshots of each of the girls and here they are starting with IH#0

IH#0 shes in 13day veg so far and #1-4 are behind 3 days i think
she smells a little =] i dont know what it is yet but it smells like chemicalzzz haha :)

any comments or ideas on how i can improve my first grow, please feel free to rant along haha! :grinjoint::grinjoint::grinjoint::grinjoint::grinjoint::grinjoint::tokin:

Cali sun is good, of the 18 hours of light i give, 10 of em are from the sun, and my second grow is actually doing good. Only problem is ive kept her in 90 degress average temp, so her leaves are curving up alot, but not burning. For nutes i use botanicare power plant ($13 /quart) and it will last a long time!

As for the color spectrum, there are people here who grow with 2700k lights from the start so if anything, that will just slow the growth imo.

UPDATE:

all 5 plants have been vegging for nearly 2 weeks now....

i raised my DIY hood an inch today, it was almost touching #0

IH#0 is on its 15th day of veg while IH#1-4 are on their 12th day of veg

i took 5 snaps of each plant. first with flash to show that there is new growth.

i watered a night before with 1 tsp of miracle grow all purpose plant food with a rating of 24-8-16, to 1 gallon of my kitchen tap water.... i had the thought i might overdo this if i do this.... haha but i guess they took it pretty well with no noticeable burns or anything.... i guess when i do use these nutes it would be from 1tsp and up as they grow. im thinking every 3rd watering?

i water everynight so far with 1 liter each. they drain fairly easy too so when days are hot i leave some runoff in the tray and i guess they seem to like that as well

i watered earlier this morning with just a couple cups of kitchentap + mollasses = 7.3ph, and the runoff was 6.9ph
