GM’s Grow Journal Spring 2020: 1st Time Indoor Grow! White Widow, AK-47 & Bubblegum

I’m in a 2x2x4 grow tent and have 3 plants (WW, AK-47, and Bubblegum). All seeds purchased online from 420. Using Fox Farms Happy Frog Soil and Perlite. Maxsisun 1200W LED (268W +/- 3%) 110V; 4” inline fan and 4” carbon filter, 6” clip-on fan and 24” oscillating tower fan.

To germinate (Day 1- WW & AK):

1. Dropped 1 WW and 1 AK seed each into their own shot glass of H20.

2. Put 3 Rapid Rooters into a vase full of H20 to soak. (First used a scissors to cut 1/2 the RR open lengthwise from top to bottom)

3. Turned on light (Veg switch only); hanging at 30” from floor of tent.

3. Let seeds and RRs sit in H20 for 24 hours.

Day 2 (WW & AK):
*Light 24/0; LED hanging 30” from floor of tent; *Temp= 77; RH= 30%; 6” clip on fan turned ON

1. Tapped seeds- both sunk to the bottom

2. Removed 2 RR from H20 and have a few shakes to shake out excess water (did NOT squeeze water out).

3. Opened RRs and placed each seed about 1/4” from top hole (pointed end of seed pointed down). Closed, and tore off a small piece of RR (from bottom), placed gently over the hole at top to keep 100% dark inside.

4. filled humidity dome liner with 1/4 H20, placed seed tray in liner, put both RRs in seed tray and covered with dome (all holes of dome closed to allow maximum humidity).

5. Placed humidity dome into tent.

6. Placed a pitcher of H20 in tent to increase RH.

Day 3 (WW & AK):
*Light 24/0; LED hanging 30” from floor of tent; *Temp= 77; RH= 35%; 6” clip on fan turned ON

1. Checked dome- nothing.

Day 4 (WW & AK):
*Light (veg switch only) 24/0; LED hanging 30” from floor of tent; *Temp= 77; RH= 35%; 6” clip on fan turned ON

1. Both seeds sprouted! Each about 1/2” tall and both have about a 1/2” tap root growing out the bottoms of their RR. Both have cotyledons.

2. Filled two 3 gallon, fabric pots 1/2 full with FF Happy Frog, then added a 2-3” layer of perlite to each, used hands to mix well. Filled the remainder of pots with soil and again mixed well.

3. Watered each pot with about 16-20 cups plain tap water and allowed to drain well (had about 15% RO). Mixed watered soil in pots with my hands the best I could.

4. Took RRs out of dome and planted each into their own pot, leaving about 1/4-1/2 of the RRs exposed to air.

5. Dropped Bubblegum seed into a shot glass of water.

6. Mixed 3rd pot of soil and perlite (same as above), watered and put into tent.

FYI- Day 1 for me is the day the seed sprouts!

Day 5 (WW & AK):
*Light (veg switch only) 24/0; LED hanging 30” from floor of tent; *Temp= 77; RH= 55%; 6” clip on fan turned ON

1. Sprayed each plant with spray bottle about 5 times.

2. First set of true leaves growing on both plants.

3. Both plants about 3/4” tall

Day 6 (WW & AK):
*Light (veg switch only) 24/0; LED hanging 30” from floor of tent; *Temp= 77; RH= 45%; 6” clip on fan turned ON

1. Both plants about 1” tall
2. Did nothing to either plant
3. Popped Bubblegum seed into RR, put into humidity dome, and put in tent.

Day 7 (WW & AK):
*Light (veg switch only) 24/0; LED hanging 30” from floor of tent; *Temp= 77; RH= 45%; 6” clip on fan turned ON

1.Sprayed each plant 4-5x with H20 (spray bottle)

2.Buried the rest of the exposed RR flush with the soil

3. WW starting to grow second set of leaves

4. Both plants about 1 1/4” tall


Bubblegum Day 4:

1. BG sprouted and is about 3/4” tall but seed shell is completely stuck to the top (I didn’t put the seed into RR deep enough). No tap root growing out bottom off RR.

2. Using my hands, I mixed (previously made) soil mixture in BG’s empty pot.

3.Planted RR in soil, leaving about 1/4-1/2 RR exposed to air.

4. Read about a million threads trying to determine what to do with stuck seed shell. Determined I wanted to remove it.

5. Spit on seed, covered with plastic dome, let sit for 15 minutes.

6. Removed dome and removed seed shell with a tweezers- VERY CAREFULLY.

7. Membrane still attached to cotyledons so, VERY CAREFULLY removed membrane with a tweezers. Looked good!!

8. Left BG seedling exposed to light and air so now all 3 plants are living in the same conditions.

9. Checked plants a few hours later and BG looked burnt

Day 8 WW & AK):
*Light (veg switch only) 24/0; LED hanging 30” from floor of tent; *Temp= 74; RH= 44%; 6” clip on fan turned ON

1. WW and AK look good! Still waiting to see AK’s second set of leaves.

2. Soil conditions of WW: Ph 6.5/7.0
Soil conditions of AK: 7.5/8.0

2. Both still about 1 1/4” tall; did nothing to either plant.


Bubblegum Day 5:

1. Dome still on. Cotyledons appear to be “greening” back up and 1st set of true leaves have bloomed. Sprayed her x2 with water bottle and put dome back on.

2. BG is about 3/4” tall.

Day 9 (WW & AK):
*Light (veg switch only) 24/0; LED hanging 30” from floor of tent; *Temp= 77; RH= 39%; 6” clip on fan turned ON

1. WW and AK are 1 1/4” tall and neither showing any s/s of disease/deficiencies

2. Watered both with 1-1 1/2 cups of water (poured around each plant in the morning).

Bubblegum Day 6:

1. Cotyledons and 1st set of true leaves are yellowing. RR appears/feels dry. Enough water given to moisten RR in the morning.

Day 10 (WW & AK):
*Light (veg switch only) 24/0; LED hanging 30” from floor of tent; *Temp= 74; RH= 40%; 6” clip on fan turned ON

1. Soil reader says “moist” in both plants but soil feels dry up to 1st knuckle. Watered each with 1-1 1/2 cups of water and sprayed each plant a few times with water bottle.

2. Still 1 1/4” tall (both plants)

Bubblegum Day 7:

1. Filled remaining 1/4 of pot with soil to cover remaking RR that had been exposed to air.

2. RR dry so watered her with about 1 cup of water (directly into RR and around it) and sprayed her a few times with water bottle

3. She’s about an inch tall

4. Appears to be much more green than she was yesterday!


***Dropped light down to 27”
***Added large punch bowl of water to tent and refilled pitcher of water in tent to help raise RH
***Turned BOTH veg AND bloom lights ON
***Dropped light to 24” but it got too hot (even after opening side vent flaps at bottom of tent so raised light back up to 30”
***Added another fan to tent (oscillating)

Day 11 (WW & AK):
*Light (veg & bloom ON) 24/0; LED hanging 30” from floor of tent; *Temp= 82; RH= 39%; 6” clip on and oscillating fans turned ON

1. Watered both WW and AK each with about 4 cups of water.

2. Propped left-sided flap (bottom of tent) open

3. Set timer on lights to change from 24/0 to 20/4

4. AK’s “slight” color variances on first set of leaves seems to be greening back up/recovering from possible heat stress?

Bubblegum Day 8:

1. Remains small; watered her with about 2 cups water (around plant)

*Light (veg & bloom ON) 20/4; LED hanging 30” from floor of tent; *Temp= ?; RH= ?; 6” clip on and oscillating fans turned ON

1. AK soil ph=7.5/7.8 (did not check other plants)

2. Watered WW with 16 cups water mixed with 1/2 tsp seedling fert from 420 (10% RO)

3. Watered AK with 16 cups water mixed with 1/2 tsp seedling fert from 420 (10% RO)

***Dropped light down to 29”
***Removed punch bowl of H20 from tent- watering is a pain in the ass when you have such little room!!

Bubblegum Day 9:
1. Watered with 8 cups plain water (no fert); 0% RO.

1. Watered both WW and AK each with approx. 24 cups of water (no nutes)

2. Both plants are 2” tall

***Dropped light to 26.5” above canopy


Bubblegum Day 12:

1. Watered with 24 cups of water. No nutes yet but planning to give seedling fert at next watering. (Today is Thursday, planning to next feed/water on Sunday).

Day 17 (WW & AK):
*Light (veg & bloom ON) 20/40; LED hanging 26” above canopy; *Temp= 82; RH= 40%; 6” clip on and oscillating fans turned ON

1. Pinched the 2 cotyledons off each plant (they were still green but I’ve read you should punch them off to avoid wasting energy there???)

2. Both plants are 2.5” tall

3. Decided to try quadlining so I shaved nodes 1 and 2 off my AK-47. Will plan to top her at the 5th node.


Bubblegum Day 14:

1. Did nothing.
2. 2” tall (light 26.5” above canopy)

Day 18 (WW & AK):
*Light (veg & bloom ON) 20/40; LED hanging 26” above canopy; *Temp= 84 RH= 49%; 6” clip on and oscillating fans turned ON

1. Was going to wait until tomorrow to feed and water but instead, did it today. Both plants were given 16 c water mixed with 1/2 tsp seedling fert (420). Had between 5-10% RO. Fed both when the lights were off- no idea if that means anything.

2. AK doesn’t to be too affected by having her 1st two nodes stripped from her, if anything, she may be a little taller today?


Bubblegum Day 15:

1. Fed her with 16 c water mixed with her first dose of seedling fertilizer (1/2 tsp). Same fert used in WW & AK. They both got 2 doses of seedling fertilizer but BG is only getting this one because I only had enough for 5 doses. Not sure what kind of training I’ll be doing with her yet???

You're doing damn good for a first timer-this is the stage where a lot of beginners screw them up-but yours are doing fine- your thumb may be greener than you thought !
