GreenPilgrim Outdoor AutoFeminized Organic Massachusetts Grow

Introduction

Given that the wise voters instructed the great Commonwealth of Massachusetts to legalize the recreational use and growth of cannabis, I plan to exercise my life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

<TL;DR>

Strain: Auto-flower Feminized (Northern Lights, White Widow, Jack Herer, Candy Cane)
Location: Outdoor, Massachusetts
Container: In ground, 3 gallon smart pots, 5 gallon smart pots
Medium: Organic Soil (composted garden soil), in pots: composted soil, perlite, vermiculite
Watering: As Needed
Fertilizer: At start just the dirt and the sun, maybe organic blends during flowering.

</TL:DR>

The Plan

I hope to be following a KISS plan (Keep It Simple Stupid).

Plant auto-flowering seeds outdoors in the soil and in some pots and let the sun do its thing. Any thing added to the mix will all be organic. I'll be happy with anything that grows!

My wife has been tending the home garden for many years. We grow all kinds of vegetables and herbs in the backyard (Tomatoes, Beans, Lettuces, Squash, Mint, Sage, etc, etc). We also raise several chickens for eggs. We have been composting all our garbage and all the chicken waste for years and folding it into the garden soil. That will be the target grow environment.

The first few will be in pots with a mix of garden soil, compost, perlite and vermiculite. Later in the season some will go directly in the garden.

I have obtained seeds for several auto-feminized seeds from Crop King Seeds. The plan will be to start these in waves, so that we might have a rolling harvest. Initially, I will use 3 gallon smart pots. But I will vary that to see what happens with the results using 5 gallon pots and seeds directly in the ground in the garden.

We will start the seeds inside on the window sill with some augmented lights.

I'm going to plant the strains in waves:

plant 3: northern lights, last week in April, 3 gallon pots
plant 3: white widow, two weeks later, beginning of May, 3 gallon, 5 gallon and 1 in the garden
plant 3: jack herer, two weeks later, end of May, will see what happens

We will adjust all this based on what happens during this first few waves. That might put us at the legal limit of twelve active plants for Massachusetts at some point, at least until they change the law.

Northern Lights AutoFlowers
White Widow Auto Flowers
Jack Herer Auto Flowers
Candy Cane Auto Flowers

Location

This will all be done in Plymouth County which is in garden zone 6b. This zone has most vegetables in the seedling form at the end of April moving outdoors mid-May.

Day One

We’ll call this Day One.

Three CKS Northern Lights seeds had been soaking for 16 hours.

Then on to the standard paper towel germinating environment. I’m using a seed germinating heating pad to the keep the temperature at 75 degrees.

No crackage yet but we will let them sleep for a while here.

Coming up to temp on the heating pad.

Day Two

That was faster than expected! All three CKS Northern Lights seeds germinated and sprouted a tap root.

All three seeds were dropped in three gallon smart pots.

They will take their place on the bay window with all the other garden seedlings. These I believe are some sunflowers.

Hey man, nice to see someone doing almost the same as i do. My plan is also to have 8 plants of organic outdoor autos. I am planting them all at the same time (2 days ago 26th of April i put 8 sprouted seeds to 330ml plastic cups). Although i am from different climate zone (Spain, Valencia) it will be great to compare the progress on our plants :) so to conclude my set-up:

Strain: Auto-flower Feminized (2x Haze auto, 2x Amnesia auto, 1x Jack Herrer auto, 3x Caramel auto) from Spanish seed bank.
Location: Valencia, Spain
Container: At start plastic cups 330ml (0.087 gallon), later 3 gallon smart pots
Medium: Organic Soil (i bought 50ltr special bio organic soil from my local growshop + 10ltr perlite + 25ltr earthworm humus + some bat guano)
Watering: As Needed, tap water left few days outside (water is of good quality in my zone)
Fertilizer: only organic if needed in the flowering stage, the main idea is to make it as simple as possible and prepare everything in the begining as in 2 months plants will not have time to use everything from the soil.
Total cost for set-up: 50 ltr cannabis soil 19 Eur + 10 ltr perlite 6 Eur + 25 ltr earthworm humus 15 Eur + 8 smart pots 3 gal 8x1.5 Eur + 1kg bat guano 10 Eur. Total cost: 62 Eur

Last year i made something similar with 4 plants and got some 20-30 grams from each plant so i had my home made weed almost free of charge during all year. As my friends liked my weed and smoked it all i am repeating it in double amount :)

Hope you don´t mind i left my setup on your post, soon i will make my own journal and send you the link if interested. One question - have you thought regarding pest control? as i had some small problems with insects but nothing serious.

Also forgot to mention - the plants will be living in my terrace, direct sunlight avg. 10 hours a day + 4 hours in shade. Not perfect lighting but sun light is very intense here and IMO gives very good results.

Hey Thanks for the Reply,

I'll will try to find your journal and follow along.

Yes, trying to create a nice rolling harvest of relatively cheap buds.

As far as pest control, I'm going to take a wait and see approach. I see that people online seem to use Neem Oil. I might check that out when I get the chance.

Updating journal in a few minutes, its been nine days. Things are growing but not sure if the weather is the best right now.

Day 9

All the seeds sprouted in their pots. That’s good but the weather here has not been cooperative. That’s New England for you, one day in the 80’s the next in the 50’s. Mostly, its been a normal spring lots of overcast wet days. Suppose I started this batch a little early we’ll see where it goes. The next wave of three White Widow Autos, I will start in a week or so might have better chances.

With the weather, these sprouts have been kept inside. Trying to augment the light in coming into the windows with a few CFLs. I think they may have been a little too distant as the sprouts have stretched a little bit. I added more soil to the mix and covered up part of the stems.

Yesterday (85) and today (52) they have been outside in the direct sun light. Maybe a little cold for them but I thought I would let them soak up the sun anyway.

So, what do you folks think, are these okay or a bit challenged? Leaving these in the sun today at 52 degrees too much for them?

Day 9 1/2

I whipped up some make shift lights to help out my plants while they are inside while the weather is still not right. What do you folks think is this just not enough? Or will this be okay until I get these sprouts outside? Not sure if these CFLs are still not close enough to the the plant.

Hey, they are green and they are alive, that is what matters most. Just hope the temp will rise - actually this year it is somehow colder here also and at night the temp can fall to 8ºC so i must take the flowers inside, anyway in day time it is something about 23-25ºC.
I do the same thing regarding lights - in the evening when the temp goes low i bring my girls inside and give them some 20W CFL 6500K light - not much but is the best what i could find in my local supermarket - do not want nothing from specialised grow shop as it will be against the main idea "outdoor and natural". Here´s a photo of my girls 29th of April: Shared album - Linadze - Google Photos
will make more photos these days.

Keep it green :)

Hope all is well in your world.

How did this grow turn out?

We would love to be updated with some pictures and info.

How about posting a 420 Strain Review?

If you need any help with posting photos, please read our Photo Gallery Tutorial.

I am moving this to Abandoned Journals until we get updates.

Sending you lots of love and positive energy.

:Namaste:
