For me the totes are currently left in place for the 2-3 months; Unhook the topfeed line and pump the old nutes out into a waste bucket.
A Wet/Dry shopvac works well for cleaning out the bottom bit that is hard to pump out.

Hey there GT, I watched some of your latest vids on youtube last night. ever think about building a large size RDWC in there. I have watched a few people on youtube for a while now, one guy Hygro Hybrid, before he went all sponsored was pretty good. bit of an ego now but his older stuff man he was getting over a pound under a 600w light.

I actually have a larger system than Hygro has.. i just need a chiller for it cause my Mag drive 12 pump is so stupidly hot.
His big RDWC system used 10gal brute garbage cans, i'm using 27gal tough totes and a 15gal control Res. I have a mini 5gal RDWC that you saw in the video, that i also stopped using because of water temps with the mag drive 7 pump i had hooked up.
Actually.. before i post my rediculously long reply answering almost 2 pages of questions, i will post a couple pics of my system.. i actually have a video that i just haven't edited yet of the BIG RDWC system.. or i deleted it by accident haha.. Okay i lied, i found the 3 videos on my phone.. i'll have to upload them later and edit it all together
so heres the photos i have:
Once i can afford a decent chiller, i will have the system put into the flower tent for a couple runs to see how it does.
If you notice on Hygro's first massive RDWC video thats like 90 mins long, you never see the end of those plants.. you know why? because he lost 2 crops back to back to pythium because of not running a chiller in the system. I think he's since hooked up a chiller, but even still.. anyone with a half a brain would know that running a system with a hot running pump like that needs to be cooled!

On HGHB's site, there used to be vids of more he lost to rot so the H2O2 also failed him. The vids I think have since been removed, but the capn is who showed me his site for reference purposes regarding DWC.

Ya I heard some stuff in the wind, once he showed up with his pay site I totally stopped watching, I don't want to hate on the guy for wanting to make a buck, I just have a hard time believing people that have a carrot dangling in front of them. I really like those totes you have there. I have three of the commanders with the squares instead of the diamond shape. They are awesome totes, they can support 500lbs... of weed... I was wondering if a network of pipe zig zagged back and forth would be enough to keep things cool... Chillers are pricey.

All my 5gal DWC plants that are going into flower will be flowered out in those exact totes i have, and the ones you pictured above.
They're getting too big for my 4x8 tent!

Fun fact about those totes, the spaces in the lip of the lid are a perfect fit for 2x3 studs or furring strips so the totes function as saw horses in a pinch, or because of the sheer strength of the totes, stack 2 on the left, 2 on the right with 2 studs set into the grooves and you got an instant table.
Also, regarding the seals, were you (Canalchemist) referring to Uniseals or rubber grommets?

Hey thanks Skybound I always have a use for more saw horses or tables, jeez I am going to have to buy a few more.
All the Ronas in T. are gone. And home depot seems to have the edge up on Lowes, at least in these parts anyway.
I saw a vid on the tube where a guy made a DIY cloner out of one, seemed like the lid was built for it.
Anyhow everyone have a good one.

There is 1000 uses for those totes, but it seems they were a match made in heaven for hydroponics lol
What i would like to find is the 15gal Rubbermaid brute totes that TheCapn uses for his flower machines, however, Home Deport doesn't have them, nor does Rona or Walmart.
They're 4.5" shorter than the Wittbagger totes, which allows for more vertical headspace!!

If I wasn't in an attic, I'd build a box and line it with plastic or pool liner and spread the water out rather than up. That would be a bonehead move in my current setup though.

Hey guys.. to raise spirits about my growbox's plants drying out mid flower and dying, i uploaded some pics of my recent harvests!
So without further ado, feast your eyes on my 18zips of buds in the curing process
Group shot. Great White Shark in the tupperware container. Girl Scout Cookies (kush Pheno) to the right, then Girl Scout Cookies (Cookie pheno) below that, and finally to the left against the wall is my OG Kush (purple pheno).

Stay tuned as i am finishing up chopping the Cookie pheno GSC tonight, and its a big yielder, that one bowl is already 4.5zips, theres probably another 2.5 zips in the veg tent drying up, and i'd say maybe 2-3zips left to trim.
I also have the last of my OG Kush plants left, but i'm trying an experiment on this one. I watched a video by Jorge Cervantes that TheCapn linked me to about dealing with Powdery Mildew at harvest, so that you aren't throwing away your frosty trim cause its covered in mildew. It's too easy and simple that i can't NOT try it. so i'm going to give it a shot. I also have another test that i'm trying with this OG.
Its the difference between drying conditions.
The Plan:
I'm going to trim half the plant and dry it in the veg tent like i have been doing with this latest harvest.
The other half of the plant is going to get dried in the 4x4 tent with no light.
I like the veg tent cause the RH is already in the high 50's and the temp is around 24c. TheCapn dries in his veg room as well as its fitted for smell, is the right RH already, and has good air movement in it. he just hangs the buds above the lights, or off to the side of the room.
I've read LOADS on how light degrades THC, but i have seen no proof of it.. just a bunch of hearsay, from stoners with no evidence of their statements.
I dried the Purple OG in my veg tent and it received direct light from the MH in the veg tent, and its some of the best smoke i've ever had. So i don't know how credible these statements people make that say you NEED to dry in darkness and such. People also said that flavour and aroma degrade in direct light too, which i also dont believe as the OG is some dank smelling bud and the flavour is amazing having been dried in direct light.
Anyways. I'm going to do the test i mentioned above to test this theory. I'd like to see if theres any noticeable difference between taste, aroma and potency between buds dried in light and warmer temps compared to buds dried in darkness and in lower temperatures.
I will let everyone know what i find. In the meantime, how bout everyone tells me their favourite drying and curing methods. We all have them!

I am not sure where you are, but these Canadian winters can be hell for curing.
Wash in a 3% Peroxide and water to wash off the shit and mildew etc.
Hang for 3 days at 50% relative humidity and at least 70 f.
Paper bag for paper bag for a few hours with hygrometer check RH, if it is above 70% hang for 12 hours, back into paper bag, do this till its at 65% RH.
Pack in 1.9 liter mason jars with hygrometer don't let the rh go over 65%
Once stable add 62% boveda packs with a 300gram oxygen absorber.
After a month anything that goes into the year long or more cure has the bovedas removed and they are vacuum sealed with the foodsaver jar sealer with the oxygen absorber inside.

GreenThumbj, Looking amazing!!! Those buds look so dank... All of them!!! I hope you find the best method for drying and curing as my LSD is about 2-3 weeks from being done hopefully! I wanna use your method! Keep us updated. Nice trimming as well.
