Grow more in flower, why?

Why do plants grow more in flower with less light time? I have always wondered this. Is it the root system that causes it to grow expenentionaly as it developes, or a feeling that the end is near so hurry up and carry on ur seed?
Or that most increase nutes as there plants develope? Any thoughts

All in the Genetics affected by environment
and should be contemplated while some of it is consumed!

Female plants stretch to have advantage over other plants in attracting pollen and this happens cause days are getting shorter, which is linked to dynamic rootball growth and stem thickening.
