Growing S.A.G.E. With Mega Crop: Leaf Problems At Week 8 In Veg

Hello fellow growers!

After growing with Coots mix the last few years I thought I would jump on the Mega Crop train and see if I could bump my yields.

Plants are about 2 months old. Started in Coots mix and up potted to 6.6 gallon in autopots with the Faux mix from @farside05.

Started MC about a month in at 1 gram/gallon; I’ve increased slowly to 3.5gr/G over the last 4 weeks.

Two of the plants are doing very well and have no issues. However, the one pictured below has been having the discoloring on and off for a few weeks. I thought the increase in MC would help. It might have made it worse.

Lights are Timer COBS and Budget 3+ 130W hung at 18-20”.

I’ve pulled off 6 or so grows with the Coots mix with the same room and system.

The only change is MC and faux mix.

Any help is appreciated!!

Seem like the same problem I’m having except I’m only at 3.5 grams per gallon. Since the medium is neutral I am trying not to starve my girls.

Well it seems like I was out of the woods with these SAGE plants, but my FAST BUDZ Green Crack is suffering now.

I’m at 4.5 g mega crop in Farside’s faux mix. I added some Growers recharge the other day.

Leaves dying from the bottom up, brown spots showing up and the one pheno of GC has up and down clawing of the leaves.

I’m probably going back to a Coots based soil after this run. I’m hoping I can at least limp this one through harvest.
@Emilya

Any thoughts???

Thanks Emilya!

I’m at 4.5g. I’ll up it to 5 and then maybe 5.5 if needed.

Thanks for the help.

Right after my last post I did up the MC to 6gr/G. The plants regained their green leaves and everything is moving along nicely.

Some yellow spots are showing back up with browning of the sides of some leaves.

I’m growing in autopots and I’m at the max dose recommend for MC.

Overall they are looking great.

One Fast buds Green Crack is perfect, one GC is showing some of the yellowing.
The SAGE: one is showing more yellowing than the other two.

Anyone have thoughts on the yellow spots and browning leaves? Cal mag? Nute burn?

Thank you!

Thanks Emilya! I followed your journal with the old soil and MC. That’s what I did last time with a low dose MC and old Coots soil. Worked great.

Time to make up another batch of MC and I’m going down to 5 gr/G for 10 gallons. Should last about 5 days, then I’ll reassess and see what the plants are doing.

This round I switched from Coots to MC because I was having some cal/mag issues and low yields on some cultivars. Even with your eggshell mix I was getting to harvest, but they were unhappy the last few weeks.

With my work I need an easy to follow program for the plant sitter when I’m gone for weeks at a time. I was mostly happy with soil. Fun to see the other side though.

Stay lifted!

Here are some updates! Front 2 are Fast Buds Green Crack and the back 3 are S.A.G.E.

Looking pretty dang good! Week 6 of 12/12 for the sage and the FB are autos on day 84ish.

At 5-5.5gr MC per gallon.

Stay lifted friends.

Photo essay for this weeks update. Dumped and cleaned reservoir and filled with 6 gm/gallon MC.

Hello all,

I am having some problems with the lower growth. I have had russet mites in the past, but sprayed for weeks and alternating sprays every time. I didn’t see any russets for weeks and kept spraying till week 2 of flower. Then I released lady bugs in my enclosed 4 x 5 room. I can not currently find any on the bottom off the yellowing leaves. I am buying a digital usb microscope though!!

My RH hovers in the 55%-65% year round and temps in the 70-82 deg range. When I try the dehumidifier the temps spike into the 90’s.

With all that being said the lowers of this crop and a few crops before slowly start to brown out, lose that bright green and the trics seems to lose the sparkle.

I’m I looking at a type of bud rot? No mold like growth, no spores. Just a slow moving brown out that starts low and works it way up slowly.

I’m at week 7 from flip and the SAGE is a 10-11 weeker. Although the tops look like they have entered the beginning of the harvest window, the lowers need some time to be all they can be.

Very tempting to pull the lot and do some cleaning!

Any thoughts?

You are experiencing a mobile deficiency, noted as such because it is first sucking the nutrients needed out of the lower leaves. A similar thing is happening up top, but it hasn't progressed to that stage yet. It looks to me like you are having a potassium deficiency. Now the question is why.... are you feeding anything other than full strength nutes? Is the pH of your incoming fluids set correctly? Have you done a 3x flush of the soil to clear it of any built up salts or nutes?

Hello Em!

I am growing in autopots and have not flushed them.

The plants were getting Mega Crop at 5 grams per gallon 2 weeks ago, up to 5.5 grams last week and this week I was hoping to see some changes at 6 grams. The ph when I’ve checked is 6.5.

The crazy thing is I’ve had this kind of thing happen even with Coots mix in soil with water only (besides your eggshell mix).

A slowly moving brown out at the end of flower. I’m dying to fix it. In the end I cut the plants a week or two early and end up happy. It would be nice to be able ride this to the end without pulling my flowers at the beginning of the harvest window.

Thanks for the help!

Well, Megacrop is a completely different situation... you shouldn't need to flush since the salts are not supposed to be building up, but I am still on the fence about this. But back to the K deficiency... in MC grows it could very easily be a K lockout because of too much base Megacrop. I would be curious to learn if this condition started getting worse somewhere at the lower end of 5g/g and continued to get worse and worse as you upped the dosage clear up to 6. I actually found that my strong plants reacted in pretty much the same way when I got over 4.75 g/gal.

It seems like the same problem I was experiencing earlier in the process. I was to light on the MC so I upped the dose. Then I backed it down to 5 g/G and I still had yellow leaves, but I felt they slowed down. The ph of the reservoir was 7.2.

So Em, your not seeing bud rot? It doesn’t seem like it, but it does lean that way.

Stay lifted!

no, I don't think I see any bud rot... when you get that you know it, and so do the fungus gnats that gather in response to the rotting smell.
I would back the MC down to 5 and see what happens... and would be patient at that level for a week or so to see the overall response. Yellow doesn't always mean that more nutrient is needed and we know that the massive amounts of calcium and magnesium in the MC can and do cause K lockouts if they are given to excess. MC is a balancing act, and its effects on the plants when you are over or under, can be a little confusing.

Sounds good Em. It is troubling seeing the buds start to be affected.

I’ll dilute down to 5g/G and give it a week.

Getting the MC just right has been challenging. I’ve seems so many on the forum do very well by it; that’s why I jumped in.

I might have to go back to soil after this run. Of course I need to make that decision ASAP. I have 2 Iced Out and 1 Double Helix from In House Genetics just break the surface! Hopefully the other 3 will be above ground any day. I have all the inputs besides a bag of compost from Malibu.

Thanks Em!

Here are the current pictures of the TH Seeds SAGE in week 8ish of flower.

The tops continue to impress!! Still stacking on weight, most of the trics are cloudy with the random amber.

The lowers continue to brown out slowly.

The mega crop has been set at 4-4.5 for the last week. It is hard to see if the situation has stabilized or is continuing slowly.

For now I’m content to let them figure themselves out.....with one hand on the clippers.
