The federal government has refused to licence a company attempting to build Canada's largest marijuana operation in Lakeshore.

Health Canada released on its website Wednesday that its decision to reject CEN Biotech, Inc.'s application for a license to produce medical marijuana is now final.

The decision comes after Health Canada issued a notice of intent to refuse the application last month.

CEN Biotech had 20 days to provide information to change the health agency's mind.

"The Department has today notified the company that the decision to reject the application is now final," Health Canada said in its online statement.

The multi-million dollar facility is already constructed and sits at Manning and North Rear roads.

Formidable barbed wire fencing surrounds the premises.

A reason for the rejection was not given in the statement, but an investigation by The Globe and Mail last year reported the company was "touting the stock to investors and using false claims involving Health Canada."

More to come.
