Heffay's Brainstorm Haze Experinmental DWC Journal - 2013

I use disposable vinyl gloves and when I harvest a plant I start by cutting the branches off 1 by 1. I take the branch and first strip off all the fan leaves. I then use a pair of Fiskars Micro Tip Pruning scissors and trim all the sugar leaves flush with the bud. I then take the trimmed branches and place them in my drying rack to dry for 5-7 days or until the buds just break off the stems. I then trim off the buds from the stems and place the buds into storage containers. I take the buds out of the storage containers and place into a large bowl for 10 minutes per day for 10 days.

I have a portable washing machine similar to the Bubble Magic 5 Gallon Mini Washing Machine that I put the trimmings in a mesh bag and place inside the washing machine, I then fill the washing machine with cold water and ice cubes and set it for 2 cycles. I then place my 5 Gallon All Mesh five Bubble bags inside of a 5 gallon pail then drain the washing machine through its discharge hose into the bucket. I then remove each bag one at a time as I drain the liquid from the bag. The trichomes are gathered in the bottom of the bags and are removed in different grades and pressed in a pressing screen to remove excess water. I then take my

John, that's awesome thank you!

In fact, my wife purchased me the same drying rack and shears this Christmas. I've been itching to use them...

nice I love my fiskars I use their regular scissors also
Happy Munchday Heffay :thumb:

any updates heffay? your girls seem to look like the ones i had run, very thin leaf and very stretchy. hope you land the foxtail phenotype that delta 9 labs uses as a image placeholder on their site. its got the smell of cinnamon, pine and sweet sap.

Well sounds like you have enough buds to pull you through and tons of space for all them harvests.

Flowering Day 61:

-After a very long and very busy couple of weeks, the BHZ buds are starting to look half-way decent. Much more filled in and starting to harden up a bit.
-BHZ plant has finally stopped putting on height, so space will hopefully not be an issue as the BHZ plant finishes over the next 20-30 days,
-After monitoring PPM so that concentration was remaining the same or dropping slightly as the reservoir was drained I'm not running something between a 800 and 1000 ppm concentration consisting of 4ML Big Bloom 3ML Tiger Bloom 2ML Grow Big and 1ML of CalMag.

This seems a bit low to me, especially when considering the Foxfarm recommendation, but this seems to be all the plant will take at the moment.
-Watching the BHZ plant develop and especially after having harvested I'm realizing that I need to be much more vigilant about pruning and defoliating. Safe to say nearly half my weight ended up in the hash bag, because the buds were just too small.

Some tall girls. Good for you nice airflow underneath on that first picture im sure.

how the heat in there? just wondering if the heat is causing the plant to look airy

Yeah it does look like it is gonna be a absolute mess to manicure but hey at least its you and not me haha. Even with it being airy thats gonna be tons of smoke for you.

The owner at the hydro store sold me some scissors that he cut a penny with and I was impressed that they were so sharp but they have a hard time cutting electrical cord. It makes no sense to me. I think they were 18.00 curved blade spring action.

That girl is huge, also. do you count the 20-ish days of flower where she was still sexing? if so i'd say start counting from when buds first began to form. so 60 days left seems likely, and this girl is going to get massive. beware of overfeeding as sativa's/cambodian genetics tend to be very moody and need pampering to get the best of them.

I used to count them but It just didnt feel right. On the bagseed Ive been growing the tricomes hadnt turned yet but when I did harvest the high was pretty good but Id hate to think I chopped to early and skipped a entire burst of flowers so starting this grow preflower week 1 and 2 are separate and transitional time.

DEFINITELY not looking forward to the harvest on this thing. That's what I mean about being more vigilant about the pruning. I'm sure it will be a lot of weight, but no real "nug of the month" material. Which is a shame with such a giant plant.

The heat directly under the lamps was becoming an issue. That's why I hung the extra little fan from the lamp in that first picture. As far as temps go: the thermometer directly under the lamps usually doesn't see more than 81 degrees. I was thinking the loose buds were because I couldn't get the nutrient concentration as high as the feeding schedule suggests... Who knows.

I hope she doesn't get any bigger. I am OUT. OF. SPACE. Nah, I call the first day of the 12/12 light schedule day1 of flower. As disorganized as I am, I have a hard enough time keeping track of what day I'm on as it is. I'd be totally screwed if I tried to keep track of it after they showed sex.
I know what you mean about them being touchy. The pictures don't show it well, but there is fan discoloration and massive PH spotting on probably 50% of the fan leaves from when I had her in too small of a bucket, and trying to run the 100,000,000 PPM nutrient concentration that Foxfarm recommends. Next time I'll know better.

If you press the stem between your fingers until you can feel it crunch you can then direct the growth sideways. You can do this throughout the whole plant to try and get a lower profile. Doing this on a 52 inch tall plant I was able to get it to around 40 inches. Just dont snap anything. once you do the crunch the stem will become limp so it is more trainable and it will recover within a day or 2.

Flower Day 66:

-BHZ plant received reservoir change and Foxfarm Sledgehammer flush.
-Ran out of Fox Farm Tigerbloom. Opted for General Hydroponics: Floranova as a replacement one part blooming nutrient.
-Nutrient solution consists of 4 parts Big bloom, 3 parts Floranova, 2 parts Growbig, 1 part Calmag.
-950 PPM total
-PH 6.03
-Pistils are starting to turn brown, and buds continue to tighten up and add weight.
-Trichomes are beginning to turn from clear to milky.
