Hellish - Black Domina Outdoors

I started a previous journal, now abandoned. Loss of internet at the time. I'm starting up my 2nd journal now. I had a few Black Domina seeds. I cloned them and ended up with 40+/- clones that I'm growing indoors under a single 600w HPS. I've got 5 Black Dominas vegging under a single 400w mh in hydro, which I just started experimenting with approx. 8 weeks ago. Additionally, I've got a Black Domina mother I've now transplanted outdoors, along with 2 other, fairly healthy, BDs and 12 BD clones, as well as a mix of 4 new seeds comprised of Hindu Kushes and Afghani Shivas.

New outdoor seeds were placed directly in the sun as soon as the petioles showed. Fuck hardening-off. Yeah, most died but if they can't hang...they're not worthy. I'd like to thank the vast contributions of the 420 community. Thanks, especially, to PitViper, DocBud, and SettingSun and multiple others. I started lurking about a year ago thinking I needed a workaround for the high price of quality meds I've since learned I'm fully capable of growing on my own. P.S. My canna-cookies are fucking retarded.

Interesting experiences in the short time I've been growing. My first girl was a white widow. Now I realized I chopped her way too early but I've always preferred the high to the stone so no biggie. She was started under a few cfls then finished under 2 150w hps lights.

I live in AZ, so, feel the title. My sog was started in an add-on room that has it's own ac unit. I turn it on about 4pm-9pm. It's hot/humid as any rain forest you could possibly imagine and I'm playing with the temps, etc. just like I do with all my methods, to see what yields results.

These girls are next to others I scrogged under 2 150w hps. We'll see what happens. The others in the same room are under 1 600w hps & 1 150w hps. I decided that indoor growing under 1600+/- watts of lighting (grow room included) may be a little more than I had anticipated would affect my electric bill. And I had initially anticipated bumping that doseage up by 3x, at least.

Meanwhile, experimenting with all methods, I had a couple outside. They had been kicking it out there since temps dropped to just freezing. Now highs hit 90. Give it a couple months and we'll see 115. If my Hindu Kush and Afghani Shivas make it then it's game on. In that time, although my ladies seem short, I've seen noteable growth. Like 8 year olds that need to shop for bras.

When reading seed and strain reviews I see plants with "tight internodes" and think: Damn, gimme. Tip: anything grown outdoors will blow up. I'm impressed with the speed of growth of my ho's in water. Hydro makes 'em push up, for sure. In fact, I will probalby always have 5 in the juice. How I will make them work, from that point forward, is yet to be seen. I've transplanted. Flipped from soil to hydro and back. It's all possible. The perfect combo is yet to be implemented.

Yet, it's no surprise. The sun is a wicked, multifaceted bitch. For real. Her disadvantage is only one. Harvest is at her beckoning. Short of that, growth is magical. Focused. Intense and dedicated.

My resources are currently limited but I plan to use the sun to get this party started. A hoop-house may soon be in the works to thwart the Plain-View laws of local LEO and Google Maps for that matter. Multiple indoor high power lights may be practical when/if I become an agent for the, now legal, medical community. Meanwhile I'm going to see just what she can do for me.

I've seen plenty of journals and know who's the shit and how they become it. I don't expect a large following and this is probably more for the benefit of myself, as I take shitty notes when I do my thing. Expect slow progress and updates. The ladies grow slowly. But maybe that's cuz I obsess over them every day and don't notice. Either way. I'll post pics as often as I deem necessary. Want more? Lemme know. Additionally, I'm far from pro and appreciate any and all tips to improve. Don't be a puss.

Lastly, I've adopted DocBud's principle of growing in soil using OC+. I believe he's ammended his ingredients to include multiple additives but I'm lazy and am using this time-release nutrient alone. As such my plants take more time to mature.

Regardless, growing, now nearly solely, outside, will be a new and hella-long experience. I don't expect to yeild nuggets til...Xmas? We'll see. If I weren't going to trim the kief for hash I'd be throwing it up and rolling in it upon my fatty queen mattress. Yeah. I expect to have a grip.

Anyway, for the 4 of you following along, let's get it started. Pics will include...uh, everything previously mentioned. :slide:

Re: Hellish. Black Domina outdoors

So, what, been a week? My indoor grow room was getting hot as hell. I decided to take my 40+/- flowering ladies and move them outside. I had a 600w HPS and 3 150w HPS lights on em. I realized how insanely costly it is to run them now. And it's not even summer in AZ yet. So, I took the majority of those clones, along with 2 fatties outside. Additionally, I moved 2 hydro girls outside. Hydro is sick, for sure. I didn't take notes but it couldn't be more than 2 months in juice and they are 3 footers. And the advantages of direct sunlight is unmistakable. Short, tight, fat leaves and clustered nodes is how these ladies all should grow. It's gotten to a 100 degrees a few time, so far. In a while that will be the regular. I put em all in FFOF and dirt and hope the cooler soil will offset the ridiculously higher temps than the recommended 78 degrees. We'll see. Either way, at this point I've put all my eggs in one basket. I'm now top-dressing my girls with guano, which I experimented with a year ago, using a tea. It was too powerful then but I think I'll work it now. I've got a 6ft wall on my perimeter and will need to keep the girls trimmed, occasionally, as, come flower time, they will double/triple their hight.

You'll see I've spaced my bigger girls a healthy distance apart, hopefully. The smaller gardens have mulitple ladies close together. I plan to trim the edges and make them conical. It's all an experiment.

Within the next month I expect I'll have a hoophouse covering them all. I get some crazy plane traffic directly over my house. Today, I had a non-commercial plane go directly over my garden then make a 180 degree turn away. Trippin? Maybe, but fuck the DEA, muchless Google satellite. Gonna need to check that asap.

Anywho, here's my most recent action. I understand that my ladies have become accustomed to a certain (indoor, HPS) environment. I'm not one for "hardening off" my ladies. They make it or they don't. So, check the pics. I'm not worried about weak looking leaves. I find they usually adapt and come back showing just what they're made of. The smalles, container-bound, plants are my newest addition, including Hindu Kush and Shiva Afghani. Ya dig?

Re: Hellish. Black Domina outdoors

P.S. Ladies and gents, these are outdoor. Gonna be around 6 months (in addition to what they've been thru already) before they put out. F shorties. These will be nothin but trees. Can't wait to take smoke breaks walking thru fatty 6 footers. I figure if I can get these thru 115 degree summers this will be routine. Stay tuned. Gonna get gnarly.

Re: Hellish. Black Domina outdoors

looks good d3lta 9 i love out door growing

i stopped in cause i have a strain called Blackjack and at the moment i have 1 blackjack crossed afghanica growing. but last grow i just had a blackjack and when it was finished and dried it had a different smell from any other pot ive ever grown or smoked i was wondering have you have any black domino finished before and was its smell different? im trying to find out where this smell comes from its either the black domino or the jack horror cause there the strains that make up the blackjack!:ganjamon:

Sativa Blackjack Seeds
BlackJack’s mother, Black Domino(they say this has 2 names Black domina), was a clone brought to Holand from the area around Seattle in Canada.
Its father is Nirvana’s very own Jock Horror. (they say its also jack herer so im told)
BlackJack produces hard buds with huge, grape-like calyxes that are completely encrusted with THC!

Re: Hellish. Black Domina outdoors

Thanks for poppin in Ozman. I've never grown any of these strains before. And I'm what I'd consider a confident Newb. I've seen plenty of ups and downs, some of which I'll outline in my next post, but I couldn't comment on the smell or origins, so far.

I had 1 (of many) BDs inside and the 600w HPS wasn't hitting much of it eventually, as the others had shaded it out. I decided to chop that one down, despite the fact that under a 30x loupe the trichs were still all clear. I ended up making some seriously concentraded butter and 2 dozen cookies. It's been a long time since I got stupid stoned but the last time I went quadding w/ the boys they had to escort me to the base camp a couple hours after I ate 2 cookies cuz I was straight retarded.

Outdoors is a bitch but if I can manage the heat then I look forward to the electric savings and mastering that seemingly impossible feat. At least in my climate.

Btw, I did pinch some sad looking buds that are dry now and curing. Smell is nothing to speak of and I'll smoke it this weekend to check the effect. But IMO it wasn't close to ideally harvested so the true test will be months from now. We'll see.

I've got 4 days off for the Memorial Day weekend. I'll be going quadding again and plan to get silly again, as I still have plenty of cookies left. Damn, they're killer.

I'll be making some changes starting tomorrow. I plan to hook a drip system up to a timer so I can leave without worry. At this point I've got about 12 (of the 40) clones that survived. Of the 4 new (2 Shiva Afghani, 2 Hindu Kush) 1 made it. It's super tricky. The buried FFOF retains water much better than I'm used to. As a result 1, my girls have become victims of overwatering and 2, without reflective top soil cover the FFOF is hella hot. Obviously, a detriment to any plant.

I'm accustomed to dramatic learning curves and don't kick my own ass when I lose prospects. I'm in this game for the long run. While I've taken a big hit when it comes to quantity and, especially, my hydro vegged girls moved to outdoor, superhot soil, I take it all as a learning experience as we all should. Practice makes perfect, right?

In total I've been growing for maybe 8 months. I've experienced grow conditions including: CFLs, MH, HPS, soil, hydro, soil to hydro, hydro to soil, 100+ degree temps, ferts including guano, time release ferts, hydro ferts and Imma get this shit.

Currently I'm thinking of taking what was my mother (grown in a Superroots Air Pot, then transplanted to inground soil) and putting her in my 5gal dwc bucket to let my 600w HPS finish her off. I'm just so anxious to see wtf she can do.

I figure I've got 12-15 plants, at this point, that should turn into something good outside. Who knows. My Mommy is quickly taking fan leaves to the yellow level. Kinda trippin me out but, with the recent addition of guano, and considering her size, I'm trying not to worry. She's still large and relatively healthy to me. But the sudden onset of yellowness is a little worrying.

Like I said previously, I don't normally trip on shitty leaves. The whole usually recovers. But she's such a beast I'll really be depressed if I let her down. However, I realize that I'm going to Mars here, putting all my chips in what will soon be 100+ degree regular temps.

Plan to get faded this weekend. Pic update to follow. :tokin:

To: self. WTF, I get no love on this thread? That's cool. I don't post often and I'm not harvesting every month. Whatevs. Since last post the majority of my ladies pussed out. In fact, I'm now down to 9 clones in soil. Plus one. Plus my mother.

From 11 clones I took 2 to indoor hydro. That was a fiasco. I misread the nute dose and 2 I took from the clones got a mainline dose of......a kegger for a 14yo. It took a couple days for me to realize why I moved all my hydros to outdoors. Those lights suck juice!

So, everything from here on out starts outdoors. When it's winter and I don't run the heater I'll put shit inside and start newbs under lights. Meanwhile, in the spirit of trying 'aything I'm now running a 3gal hydro bucket outdoors. It's the same corrupt 2 plants, so, I figure if they die then I'll pluck another 2 clones, put em into the bucket, using the right nutes, and, hopefully, see the advantages of direct nutes and aeration, along with 12+ hours of fierce light.

The 3gal dwc bucket is sunk in the ground now. The idea is buried=cooler. White styrofoam on top. You'll experience the results along with me. Hydro, at proper levels, equals phenomenal growth. If I can get this benefit while not dropping bills on the mh/hps lighting then, uh, money.

I know it's not conventional. But, what is? Btw, my mother was/is getting/dropping lots of yellow leaves. I've noticed, while she seems to be getting thinner/balding, all her branches are putting on new nodes of growth. Small leaf sites popping up. I figure if these translate to more/tighter nodes when she puts out in 3-4 months she's gonna be a bad looking bitch.

I had 40+ clones in an indoor garden not too long ago. It made me understand what people talk about when they talk about chillin in the garden for hours. It's a mini rainforest to me. My goal is to start with a dozen outdoor fatties. Then 2. Then 4. 48 short trees should take care of me and the people I serve quite well.

Where I'm at now is figuring out just what works best to produce those results. Thanks for hangin in while I embark on this hella long journey. No porn yet. These girls are gonna tease you for a while. Look at it like they're new to the scene. These girls gonna be panty droppin in a few. Meantime, they're practicing their choreography.

That big plant looks good, probably needs some N to combat the yellow leaves. Need to take a break from quadding and take care of the home front. 40 down to 9 is not very good ratio. A little attention to the watering would do wonders to your harvest. Remember, chill in the "room"

You will get love on your thread, but most stoners can at least keep things alive......

Love them plants you sure are gonna have some monsters growing cant wait to see them young gals turn into some mighty fine women good luck with your grow hope you don't mind me taggin along great job :goodluck:

OG13 & paptater, thanks for stoppin by. Feel free to join the ride, for sure. Win or lose on my journey, this site rocks because of the wealth of information that is shared and gained by the successes and failures of others. There'd be no way I could do any of what I've accomplished so far without reading others' journals. Whatever your inclination for growing may be, love of horticulture, smoking your homegrown or commercial interests, advancing due to your own experiences and that of others is paramount. I hope to benefit others in the same way I have.

Starlog 062511: While I understand the general concept that yellow leaves indicate a need for more N, I can't help but wonder if this is the only contributing factor. There have been days when my moisture meter shows "wet" but saggy leaves indicate otherwise. I've since decided to solely rely on what my plant tells me. Mommy's been in veg for 6 plus months and I've never grown such a beast so far. I have to wonder if she's shedding some of those leaves to make way for the evident new growth. Meanwhile I've dosed her with a top dressing of a healthy bit of OC+ and water her daily, by hose gun, with what must be at least a gallon or 2. While I'd like to see what she could do with all the leaves from start to finish I'm not at all worried. Doubling in size by the time she's done will mean I'll need to tie her down. Most likely I'll end up placing a screen above her so new shoots directed sunward will not peek above my privacy wall. I haven't counted but left as is she's got several dozen colas/but sites and I can't wait to see 12hr days, tho we're still months away. That's not a problem either. I just hope my dog walking neighbors don't choke on the smell by then. That is my only potential issue.

I'm a little conflicted by my choices in growing techniques right now. While running even 1 600w hps indoors is impractical in my fiercely hot environment I do miss doing hydro. The rapid growth is unprecedented. I've got a dozen of 4 different bean varieties each on the way. Hindu Kush, G13, Jack Herer and White Rhino. I plan to seed all of these from the start in a 4x2 tray of soil outdoors, thereby eliminating any potential shock. Being heat tolerant or Sativa varieties I don't expect any issues here. If they show good hardiness outside (and the days are already 110+) then I'll probably leave at least half planted outside to finish with the rest inside transplanted to hydro. By that time it should be cold enough indoors that, without running my heater, I can run my HIDs with no ill effect.

This shit is testing my patience but, damn, I can't wait for the bud porn. Meanwhile, here's where I'm at...

WOW!!!!!! love them outdoor plants I agree listen to what the plant says you will be allright the more time you spend with your plants the better they will turn out out i try to check my plants every couple days because it dosent take long and bugs will eat the heck out of your plants . Ya d3lta 9 you start checking out other journals they will see you have one and stop by thxs for posting your grow with us :goodluck:

Didn't mean to come across in a bad way.....no worries. What is your soil like? I bet the big plant could consume more than 2 gallons per day in your heat. Since growth rate is a concern, you may want to get some shade cloth from a nursery or online. It comes in different "strengths". 30 or 40% would let the plants grow, but at a slower rate, then remove it later in flower. They also make a "reflective silver" version to keep it cooler below in the "shade". Want a link, email me. May allow the root zone to develop more too. If the roots are too hot, the growth is not so good, maybe some mulch around the base to help cool?

Re-read your post....Hose guns are deceiving.....measure your water for a while to see how much you use, just spray in a bucket and water directly. I thought I was using a bunch on my maters and was about 1/3 what I thought.

Thanks for the words, fellas. Here's how I'm lookin at this grow. Kill em all or get a fatty, I'm learning. So far, I've nearly got down cloning, dwc, soil & soil grown in 115 degrees.

Lately, I've realized the effects of not shading my ladies in this brutal environment. After I killed off half the remaining cloned teens I shaded the rest. My mother took a beating.

I realized the benefit I've been missing from some additives I'll be showcasing once I buy and apply them. Nonetheless, with mommy, 4 clones and 1 (of 12 seedlings), which is a Jack Herer!, I'm getting my crazy style dialed in.

3 seeds each, of white rhino, hindu kush, durban poison and jack herer (along with 3 more black domina seeds) will make up my next grow. I'll hydroponically grow 1 of each strain. Take clones off those girls. Veg as long as I want. Put em outside. I'm thinkin of a hoop house style setup. Instead of greenhouse type plastic I'll enclose my girls with shade netting, decrease direct heat and get everybody lookin green and set up proper for the 12hr season.

They look rough but I'm not worried, at all. You're gonna see some comeback.

I'm hoping good things for ya but that plant looks pretty rough is that heat damage or lack of water your seedling looks pretty good well lets hope for the best and learn from the rest :peacetwo:

Good question. Too much heat or not enough water. 2 days ago I put a shade net above mommy. I've seen several people note the importance of shading plants in the midday sun. Initially, I hoped to bypass this step. Now I realize that is not possible. No problem from here on out. And I am now going to play with my water schedule. I'm thinking of a 2-3 gallon flood every night. Up from 2 gal every other day, or 1.5gal daily. We'll see what happens.

Moderator, you can kill this thread. I appreciate the few followers and lurkers that have checked in. I knew when I started this crazy experiment it would be...hellish. My mother was a victim of manslaughter. Over/Underwatering, I'm not sure. Either way, I'll try pure sativa next outdoor grow, which won't be until I install a shade hut and drip line, minimum. Meanwhile, I've discovered, despite the high cost of electricity required to grow indoors in the desert, that's the only sure way to go, for now. I've successfully grown indoors before and now that I've upgraded from seeds bought from cannabisseeds to seeds from Barney's I'm anxiously anticipating my new grow. Follow along when I start it up. Red Diesel and Critical + are next in the water now.
