It was a celebration of hemp in Sturgis! The 13th Annual Hemp Hoedown is in full swing, this year events are being held at the Glencoe CampResort in Sturgis.
Promoter Jeremy Briggs says the event is meant to bring awareness to the uses and benefits of industrial hemp through education, showing off products and music. He says there's also some misconceptions they're looking to address.
Briggs says, "Hemp is not marijuana, it's the same genesis and species, the same way that a St. Bernard and Chihuahua are both the same species, but obviously different. I feel like the marijuana argument has been made to make hemp illegal, but it doesn't really hold much weight."
Briggs says hemp can be used to make food, clothing, and even beer.
The hoedown continues until Sunday. Tickets are required and can be purchased at the gate or by visiting Hemp Hoe Down.
