Hemp is not marijuana.
"You cannot get high from eating it. It's not going to affect any drug testing," assures Wendy Myerson, owner of Natur-Tyme health store in East Syracuse.
Now that that's out of the way
Hemp is an ultra-nutritious, high-protein food source, which Central New Yorkers are finding in cereal, bread, granola bars, even milk.
Myerson says you can't compare products with hemp taste-for-taste with what you're used to. Open your mind, and then your mouth.
What is hemp?
Seed from the cannabis plant, but not the kind high in tetrahydrocannabinol used to make marijuana.
One of the most nutritious food sources on the planet, with all nine essential amino acids, plus a balance of omega 3, 6 and 9 fatty acids and trace minerals, including iron, fiber and B vitamins.
Plant source containing the highest percentage of high-quality
edistin protein.
Who eats it?
Vegetarians and vegans
Those on gluten-free diets (but read product labels for other ingredients)
People on high-protein diets
Lactose-intolerant folks
Adventurous eaters who like the nutty flavor.
