Hempy Style Glue! First 420 Journal

Joined 420 a few months ago and had a grow nesting harvest so I waited until the next one to start my first journal.

I’m going hempy!!!!! Never tried it but from everything I’ve read it’s easy and can be very successful.

So here goes.

GG4 seeds fem. given to me for free from a breeder to try out. Not naming names.

As mentioned above I’ll be growing these out in hempy buckets. 3 gallon buckets.

Growing in a 3x3 tent so sticking to two plants, as past experience with GG4 showed a plant that really likes to stretch.

Debating wether to mainline or go with a scrog. This past grow was two GDP mainlined. They ended up being about 22” tall, and around 30” around. Averaged 3.5 o per plant.

Lights are a bridgelux build. Running 225 Watts when turned up full.

Decided to go straight perlite.

Nutes I’ll be using are left over kanakoko nutes veg and flower. Calmag throughout the grow along with silica and koolbloom for flowering.

Seeds were planted last night in oasis cubes so hoping to see something within the next few days.

I’m hoping to keep you all updated regularly and with lots of pictures. Which isn’t hard cause I love taking pictures of my ladies.

So as promised some pics.
The beans are 4 days from going into the oasis cubes. Now all settles into their hempys.
Also a shot of my light.

So not much progress to report so far. Only been 5 days. Still took some pics though. I’ve always been an impatient person. Seeing as I started growing from seed this year and have always gone with clones in the past, being so impatient is killing me!!

Really looking forward to witnessing the Hempy explosive growth!!

One thing to point out and maybe someone can chime in, stems are dark red almost purple. I’ve seen this before on a few other seedlings. Was dealing with granddaddy purple so I thought it was genetic then.
Is this a sign of an issue?

I think I've had a couple sprout with dark stems in my second batch that seem to be rolling along just fine a month later.
The leaves look nice and green that's good.

Quick update. On day 11 from sprout. They’re doing ok I guess. I personally find there hasn’t been much growth in the almost 2 weeks.

I
I’m watering twice a day around the base because I assume the tap roots have yet to hit the reservoir. Alternating feed and plain water ph 5.6 - 6.2. My temps are 25c lights on and around 19c lights off. RH at a constant 60%.

How long before the roots hit bottom on an average hempy?

Day 17 update.

We got touch down yesterday. The growth in the past day tells me the roots hit bottom.
I was having and MG issue on the smaller seedling. Fixed it with a PH adjustment. Hence the stunted growth. Looks like my PH pen was a tad out of whack.
Started 1/2 strength nutes today so hoping they can handle it.

Day 24

Been dealing with a strange issue on one GG4 very slow growth compared to the second one. Down potted it to see if it might help and finally after 4 days it looks like it’s bouncing back.
I added 2 C99 from peakseedsbc to the tent. Those are at day 14 and doing really well. Up potted one yesterday and need to do the same to the second one tonight.
In order

Most likely a pH problem. You mentioned it above. If your pen is calibrated, you should see some improvement.
I'm not familiar with the light. I would think closer to 24" unless specified by the manufacturer. Moving the light down to 18" in veg after she gets a bit bigger. 12-18" in flower.
Did you happen to rinse or prepare your perlite before use? It has a pH of 7, so it helps to soak it in pHed water. You also want to rinse the fine dust from the perlite.

A great source here is a journal started by @SweetSue called Hempy Headquarters. Check it out for sure. There are a lot of experienced Hempy growers on it.

Definitely go check out Hempy Headquarters.
One thing I have found out about running 100% perlite is that yes you can over water if you are using the smaller perlite. You also need to make sure you always feed a good calmag plus. And all my plants seems to have that delay before it takes off.
Here's a couple plants that are in 1.5gl Hempy Bucket. 100% perlite in week 3 flower.

Yeah I rinse quite well wit tap water. My tap water comes out at 6.5 ph. I never even thought of using proper ph water to soak it. Thanks it’ll def help in the future.
I’ve started using a bit of H2O2 to handle the algae. What’s your thoughts on that?
