(Saluda) January 27, 2007 - Saluda County deputies say they've seized a 40-pound brick of marijuana after a high-speed chase.

Officials say that much pot is worth more than $40,000.

According to reports, a deputy smelled marijuana in 24-year-old Schuyler Drummings' SUV during a routine traffic stop Saturday night.

The officer says Drummings then took off, leading authorities on a high-speed chase.

After deputies set out spikes to flatten the SUV's tires, Drummings continued the chase on foot.

He was arrested soon after.

Saturday the sheriff told News 10 that while high-speed chases can be dangerous, the outcome was worth it.

"As sheriff, I hate to see a high-speed chase happen. But I'm just very proud of my men for what they did last night," said Saluda County Sheriff Jason Booth.

Drummings will be charged with drug trafficking.

He says the SUV belonged to a friend.
