Hiker's Basement 2.0 - Multiple Strain - Perpetual - Now With LEDs!

lol her job is only moving to Deer Park. :blalol:
Sorry DP hehe
At least Chatteroy/Spokane is closer to Seattle than Colville

Wow.

Sorry I missed your entire ordeal. Wow.

So I went on the roller coaster in your posts. I am glad to hear your wife is doing well. (sounds like she is not out of the woods so I just shot a prayer for that) Very sorry to hear about the loss of your garden but it sounds like it was fate. I do not wish moving on anyone... instead I will wish that the move is over soon and we see some green soon.

Rock On

Thanks Buckshot

I was thinking about you the other day as I feel our paths have been similar. Especially now that I only vape my own oil. Thanks buddy. I never did get this basement truly 'perpetual'.

The move is happening. We have a new house in escrow now. Hopefully we will close on the 9th or 10th. It will be a few months before I turn any lights on though. The new place should work pretty well for growing. We had it in mind while we looked. It took us months to find a place that had everything we wanted. Pretty excited about the new place. More land (1/2 acre to 2.8), a shop in addition to the garage, and it's close enough to Spokane to commute.

I hear ya about the actually moving part though. That part I am NOT looking forward to. Luckily I think we will be in this place for awhile. You can be sure I will have a new journal when I start building the new space. :morenutes:

In regards to my wife...

This is for anyone else that was wondering as well. She is doing OK. She has mostly recovered from her surgery, but there are still vision problems. We go to Dr appts every week to various specialists. They have made a diagnosis, but it's one of omission, so nobody really likes it. They discussed her case at some neurological meeting last week and came up with this diagnosis. Her Drs want more tests before they decide on more treatment.

Meanwhile she is still tacking the oil I make her. The daytime oil is not sticking well for her, so I will have to remake that batch. I've stockpiled a lot of my oil making material. Hopefully I have enough to keep us both supplied until I am back up and running.

thanks for everyone's well wishes. We feel the positive energy. :Namaste:

Hey Hiker, congratulations on finding a house to move to. We are still looking for our perfect house. All the best to your wife Hiker, maybe she should start with smaller tacks first like a 1/4 grain at a time? good luck!!!

Thanks Buckshot

Hi Sara

Sorry I must have missed this response.

Been pretty busy moving. Hoping to start building the new grow space in August.

What area did you go to? Still USA?

Yes. Still in WA. We only moved 60 miles away :blalol:

cant wait to see your new space

I probably won't get to start setting up until the end of summer. We're still very much "moving". I've got to get the old place rented asap, so I'm trying to do as little as possible at the new place until it's rented.

The new space has quite a few differences, or perhaps I should look at them as new and interesting challenges! :)

In the old house, the basement was only under part of the house, and much more separate. The new house's basement is a "finished" basement. I still have a concrete floor, after I remove the carpet, but it's not as deep. I think it will still regulate the temps pretty well though. The old basement had a window ~10" tall. This one has a full size window. It's just at ground level. That's the first challenge... making the window look stealthy. There are 2 rooms I want to use, but they both have windows facing the front of the house. I will have the mini blind and the curtains there so no one can see in. I want to build a box around it to enclose the curtain, but I'd like to have a way to make it look, from the outside, like the room light is on. Anyone know of a link to something like this?

The other challenge is, of course, ventilation. I had that great unused chimney in the old basement.
The flowering room is a CGE, so I think I'll probably just connect the 2 rooms to each other and let the CO2 gen work for both sides. The 2 rooms share a wall, so that will be easy enough. Maybe I just won't vent anything. Solved! :blalol:

The laws in WA change on August 1st, so I'm only allowed 15 plants now. I'm still unclear if that's total or flowering or what, but that worries me a little. My wife can go get her medical recommendation too, so what I'm unsure about is if that will allow me to have 30. I did some reading about it yesterday, but wasn't finding all the answers I wanted.

I was running 24 lights over 24 plants with 2'x2' each. I'm not 100% sure my new flowering room will hold that many. Yes, I did measure, and it 'should' fit, but when I stand in the room it doesn't feel like it will. It seems smaller than the old flowering room. I may just shrink each lights footprint a bit to maybe 1.5'x1.5 or 1.5'x2' or whatever fills the space best. I might just run fewer plants due to this law change. I'll still be perpetual, so really it just changes my veg schedule a bit.

I'm not settled 100% on what I will do. I was just notified about the law change by my Dr this week. Trust me that I've been thinking through the build and have a lot of the details worked out already. In some ways, I'm glad I'm not jumping right into the build. There are still things about it I'm considering, and if I was rushed I might make a decision I regret later. I'm going to be in this house a looong time, so I only wanna do this once.

Hey Hiker! I have been back since January AFTER I found out about BIDs Passing. I am just finishing up phase 1 of my dedication grow. I am searching my older journals to see who is still here and who no longer posts on 420 Magazine :cheesygrinsmiley:

I read through your grow, pretty sweet. I realize this thread is a little old but I have a couple Q's for you, if you dont mind me asking.
On your flowering plants what was your watering cycle?
What did you use for nute ratios on your flowering plants?
I ask about the nutes because every week has a different recommendation, you must have found a happy medium.
Thanks

Hey Hoz

Glad you're growing again :thumb:

My watering schedule changes a little during flower. My approach to growing with this system is to flood as frequently as possible while still allowing the buckets to drain completely in between. As the plants mature in the buckets, the cycles take longer. The root mass makes the water move slower.

That being said, I would flood 4 times a day at the end. My floods were for 30 minutes.

As to nutrients... I used General Hydroponics Flora line. I added a few other supplements, DM Zone, Si, etc
I don't really chance my formula too much over the course of the grow. I use the GH guidelines to mix veg, transition, then flowering recipes.

Hope that helps.

Hey Hiker, fellow WA state grower here. What are your thoughts on the law changes going into effect July, 1? Are you going to change your growing style to fit in with the 4 or 6 plant limit? Very frustrating trying to figure out how I am going to run a perpetual garden with 4 or 6 freakin plants. I grow for another patient too so I think that means I can grow 8 or 12 right? So confusing.
