How bad is it to push air through a carbon filter instead of pulling?

The general consensus seems to be that pulling air through carbon filters is the way to go.

However, my space is somewhat limited and it would be beneficial to have the carbon filter outside the tent for space sake -- of course this means I'd have to push air through the filter.

How "bad" would this be? The only logical explanation I've read is that this is harder on the fan because there might be air sent back in the opposite direction that the fan is blowing.

EDIT: Here's a diagram -- in real life however my plants are brushing up against the carbon filter (yup, space is that tight!). That's why it would be beneficial for me to have some flexible duct work and route the carbon filter on top of the tent.

Hey thanks for the reply, I've edited my original post to show my issue.
Unfortunately I don't have too much space.
