Icemud's LED Grow With Advanced LED XTE 300 Series With EX-Veg 200

Hey everyone!!!

Happy Friday!!!!!

I made it through my 1st week of my new job.. :) I'm super stoked :) time to celebrate!!!:tokin:

So I am going to trim up my churchberry in which I tried something different with... I let her dry on the plant instead of wet trimming and jarring right away, so I am going to trim her up tonight and put her into jars for the final cure :)

So I tasted a few of my strains tonight, now that they have been jarred for 1 week... still want to give them another 2 weeks to do a true smoke report.. but so far I tried the GSC and the Purple Urkle.

The GSC...

Very strong, in fact after only 2 smaller hits out of my glass bowl, I was pretty baked... since I did a mix of some synthetic fertz and organics this grow, the buds didn't have as smooth of a hit as previous runs of the GSC, but the flavor was amazing, and the strength definitly there.... Seems to have more of a uppity type high, good for being creative, writing or reading but was strong in the same.... The taste was a very og kush taste followed by a hashy fruity undertone... but the flavor lasted on the palate for a while.. so far its one of my best tasting runs of it so far, but like I said I want to wait another week or 2 before the full smoke report...

The purple Urkle..

I then tried the purple Urkle...

Very interesting taste to it, not the same as the norcal purple urkle that I am used to which has a very fruity taste, this cut had a much more kushy berry taste to it.... which did remind me of purple urkle, but definitely was different than the one I am used to... again that may come in another week or 2. I am still impressed with it, not disappointed in the least :) The inhale of this one is slightly harsh, but very very strong, and even after 1 small hit I definitely felt a change of elevation to say the least... much more on the indica side, not quite couchlock, but definitly a more head confusion takes place where you don't want to concentrate on much, even writing right now after just 2 hits is quite difficult :) more of a great high for playing games, watching movies or relaxing. Definitely a amazing strain and I will be running it again next round :)

Here are some photos of the Purple Urkle (under different lights and camera settings)

Hey...... So I got the Churchberry all trimmed and in a jar for curing.....

She was definitely dry and most of the fan leaves were able to be just pulled right off which actually made trimming this leafy beast quite easy.... I then cut the buds off the stems and placed them into a jar for curing. The smell reminds me of a faint blue dream smell mixed with a old school bud type of smell, and its quite strong. I definitely made my room stink trimming this girl up :) I haven't sampled her yet..still completely baked off the bowl of Purple Urkle I packed about 2 hours ago.... but will definitely get to her this weekend.

The total dry weight of the churchberry was 50.5grams, just short of 2oz.

Here are the photos of the Churchberry...

Alright...and now for the final yield weight totals.....

Blue Dream: 76.6g
Ogiesel: 70g
GSC:74.6g
Purple Urkle 53.2g
GDP:66.5g
Churchberry: 50.5g

Total yield dry: 391.4g or almost 14oz....

The total Draw of each light was 247W (avg) and I used 2 lights therefore my total draw was 494W

This leaves me with a gram per watt of .79G/W

Here is my running total from all my grows...yield and G/W

Grow 1: 1000w HID (400w CMH + 600w HPS) Total yield 574g or .57 grams/watt
Grow 2: 1000w HID (400w CMH + 600w HPS) Total yield 547g or .55 grams/watt
Grow 3: 1000w HID (400w CMH + 600w HPS) No Yield Data (Powder Mildew took over)
Grow 4: 1000w HID (400w CMH + 600w HPS) Total yield 325g or .33 grams/watt
Grow 5: 580w (400w CMH + Mars II 400w) Total yield 245g or .42 grams/watt
Grow 6: 540w LED (3x Mars II 400/180w models) Total yield 308g or .57 grams/watt
Grow 7:>300w LED (2x Intelligent Gro, GEN1, 180w each on dimmer) Total yield 191g or .63 grams/watt
Grow 8: 540W LED (3x Intelligent Gro, GEN2, 180w draw each) Total yield 367g or .70 grams/watt
Current Yield: 494W LED (2x Advanced LED XTE300, 247w draw each), Total yield 391.4g or .79grams/watt

So far it looks like I have beat my personal Gram/Watt efficiency when compared to other grows...however.... this is only a reference since each grow has slight changes and different strains, it can not really be used to compare to other grows...however I do like how for LED I yielded my largest yield yet....

Overall I am very impressed with the performance of the Advanced LED lights and I definitely will be using them on my next flowering cycle :)

Stay tuned for the smoke reports and final review of this grow with Advanced LED XTE series grow lights :) Happy Weekend Everyone!

Awesome news Ice and way to blow your gpw out of the park:)......i know you said different strains and all, but i can very much see the benefit in top bin leds:).....Great show of the XTEs and journal Ice:).....thank you for all the info:)

Thanks Green Dreamz! I'm pretty excited about how everything turned out this grow and for my yield efficiency being the best yet I am definitely looking forward to next grow. These lights rock, and definitely loving how they run cool, and how bright these cree and osram chips are.... I already have my next grow setup with a little something extra :)

Ok...so the jury has spoken on the Purple Urkle.... I took some over to one of my buddies houses... same age and experience as far as strains and smoking and also grows. Another trusted opinion was there as well and we sampled the "purple urkle". As far as the quality of the smoke, everyone was really impressed as well as the flavor...but unfortunately its not purple urkle, and all of use had a unanimous decision that it is GSC, but a different pheno or cut than the other one I have... less of a kushy taste and more of a hashy berry kush taste, but its definitely GSC..no doubt... So even though I'm disappointed that yet again another clone source is full of crap, I am still happy its a strain I love, and so In that way I am still excited... I will run her this next grow but that will be it for this cut of the GSC as my other one with the heavy kush flavor is the best I've had yet. :)

It definitely looked exactly like my other cut of GSC during veg and flower, buds formed almost identical, and even the slight purpling was very similar. I had my suspicions as she grew but wanted to wait until the sample.... and its definitely not purple urkle and almost 100% certain its GSC.

My Initial Impression:

When I first received the shipment I was very excited to open the boxes and see these newer panels from Advanced. Advanced LED has been one of those companies that has been around for a while, and I was always curious to try them so I was very happy to have in my hands the XTE 300s (2 of them) as well as the ExVeg200's. As my review video showed the boxes were well packed and discrete and inside were all needed cables (power and daisy chain) as well as the wire hangers and clip.

Upon firing these XTE-300's up to do my initial kill-a-watt tests I noticed an issue with both panels. On one of the panels just 1 single diode was out, one of the white ones, but all others were working. On the other panel a section of 4 modules (red channel) was out. Since I've dealt with issues with electronics before, it didn't concern me much as I called up Kyle to discuss the issue. I have to say they are very very professional and have great customer service and had a pick up for the lights arranged next day, and I got the new lights (not repaired ones) about 1 week later so it was really no hassle what so ever. Advanced LED and Kyle were polite, concerned and took care of the issue as any good company should, customer first type attitude so I was very happy with the process as it was of little no inconvenience to me at all :) ***also this was before the lights were even avail to the general public.

Overall was a very fluent process with no hassle what so ever to me, and of top notch service.

The Build:
The lights were built very well and solid with a heavy duty frame but still somewhat light for the size of the lights. It seems to be a steel of some type with a nice what looks to be powder coated white finish which makes it very smooth to the touch. All the seals and seams are nice and flush and the light feels very secure. Each module of LED's has a separate heatsink with nice # shaped pattern which really does a nice job of keeping this light cool, even at 100% drive. Each light featured 2 large fans with a screen dustcover to help keep the inside clean and they circulate a lot of air over the heat sinks but remain very quiet in the same. Each light has 2 knobs to control the intensity of each channel (one red channel, and one blue/white channel) which allows for dimming, color shifting and allows you to control the blend of spectrum manually for your garden. Each light also has 1 plug (AC in) and 1 daisy chain connector.

The LED Chips:
The Chips in the light feature OSRAM and Cree as well as Dual diode IR Chips which I believe may be Epistar (not many companies make IR chips). Cree and Osram are some of the best brands in the LED diode industry right now and are known for amazing lumen effiency, excellent lumen maintenance over time, and minimal color shift as well as long life, so I am very confident with the cool running design and good thermal management these chips will last a long time.

From visual inspection and comparison I believe these are the chips used.

OSRAM OSLON SSL 80 Hyper Red (646-666nm)* based on possible BIN numbers, source OSRAM Data sheets

Cree XPE Red (Not 100% sure but seems to be this chip) (610-630nm) * based on possible BIN numbers, source CREE Data sheets

Cree XTE White (not sure what color temp, most likely a neutral around 4-5k)
DSC09834.JPG

Cree XTE Blue (450-460nm) * based on possible BIN numbers, source CREE Data sheets

IR dual diode chip (looks like an Epistar) not many LEd companies make IR chips. (720-740nm) * based on possible BIN numbers, source EPISTAR Data sheets

Now by the looks of it, there are 2 different combinations of modules in this panel.

One module contains: 1 Cree XTE blue, 1 Cree XTE white, 5 OSRAM SSL 80 Hyper red, and 2 Cree XPE RED.
IMG_0014185.JPG

The other module contains: 2 Cree XTE blue, 5 OSRAM SSL 80 Hyper Red, 1 Cree XPE RED, 1 (dual diode) IR chip (most likely epistar)

The company:
Dealing with Advanced LED and the staff has been a very pleasant experience. Kyle was my main contact at Advanced LED and was extremely helpful with any question I had, any concern and really knows his products well. You all know me I am a LED geek and he had an answer for everything I asked. Being that I was part of the Advanced LED "advocate" program I want to point out that I worked out a deal with advanced to do this grow, but they had absolutely no say or input on my grow, posts or anything shared here at 420 mag or any other of the places I share my grows. It was a completely hands off grow on their part which I really liked and then just let me do my thing.... but if I had a question, always were just a phone call away. Overall I think Advanced LED offers that top notch customer service and knowledge on their products you would expect from any good company and I really had a pleasure dealing with them, even with the slight bump in the beginning of the grow. Based on my interaction with the company I would definitely say it was a 2 green thumbs up experience :)

The LED Performance during Grow:

I have to say there is not one bad thing that I can say about these lights. They impressed me in every way. They use quality chips, they are extremely bright, they run very cool, and allow for spectrum and intensity adjustment. What is one not to like :)

Advanced says these lights coverage area on the website is 3.5'x4' and for core coverage 3'x3' and I would say these seem to be pretty accurate numbers. I would say maybe for core coverage, depending on height it may be closer to 2.5'x3' but still is pretty accurate as the PAR numbers from these lights show how insanely bright they are :)

So my plants really seemed to love these lights and performed very well as my Gram/Watt was the highest I have done so far in any grow with any light source including HID, and other LED's. With my final yield being the best for all of my LED grows, and with slightly less watts, I am definitely impressed with how things turned out. The Ogiesel that I have ran now for a few different cycles under different lighting sources filled out more than it ever has with very nice dense buds, and had better flavor than it has in the past. My GSC also has been run through numerous light cycles with different sources and also yielded heavier than every before under other lights, and also had a much more intense flavor, so its safe to say my plants really liked these XTE lights as well.

Final thoughts/Conclusion:
Like I said before I have absolutely good stuff to say about these lights, how the grow went and I will definitely be running them in my next grow.

I am not going to get into the "is this light better than that light" because it really can't compare to many other lights on the market due to the Advanced LED XTE's using premium LED chips (cree and Osram) which wouldn't make it a fair comparison on price point vs Par or any other comparison...premium chips cost about 4x-5x more than regular ones, but they last almost double as long according to data sheets.

But if you ask me the question, would you buy Advanced LED XTE panels, I would 100% say yes as they worked extremely well and you won't be disappointed in any way :)

Nice review on the lights Ice.
Hey...... So I got the Churchberry all trimmed and in a jar for curing.....

She was definitely dry and most of the fan leaves were able to be just pulled right off which actually made trimming this leafy beast quite easy....
Um, so I guess we'll try this on our next chop...

Nice review on the lights Ice.Um, so I guess we'll try this on our next chop...

Thank B A R !!! we will have to see.... If all the plants finish around the same time then I definitely will be doing that drying method again :)

Alright...and now for the final yield weight totals.....

Blue Dream: 76.6g

So far it looks like I have beat my personal Gram/Watt efficiency when compared to other grows...however.... this is only a reference since each grow has slight changes and different strains, it can not really be used to compare to other grows...however I do like how for LED I yielded my largest yield yet....

Overall I am very impressed with the performance of the Advanced LED lights and I definitely will be using them on my next flowering cycle :)

Stay tuned for the smoke reports and final review of this grow with Advanced LED XTE series grow lights :) Happy Weekend Everyone!

THERE IT IS!! That's what I was asking about. Much better grow efficiency this grow as compared to others. 0.79g/w is pretty stinking good mang! Well done! :thumb: :high-five:

'Course, it could also be due to better experience with LEDs by 4 runs! Well done, either way!

Smoke report::::: sorry for the delay but really wanted to make sure they got a few weeks of curing in before the final report....

Churchberry:

IMG_20150117_201157.jpg
IMG_20150117_201211.jpg

The Churchberry I picked up was kind of a whatever type choice. I never heard of it but the genetics were interesting so I gave it a try. (Swiss Sativa Skunk x Super Skunk / Northern Lights)which is "The Church" crossed with Blueberry is what this strain is made of supposedly. The plant is definitely a very sativa dominant plant by the way she looks, very think leaves and grew almost just like my blue dream plant in terms of structure. The buds were frosty and had a very unique smell while growing, an almost ginger ale smell with a hint of fruity blueberry or berry tone to it... very odd smelling.

Upon drying the buds definitely took on more of a Buttery sweet piney smell almost if you were to take popcorn butter and infuse it with blueberry... very very buttery though...I didn't really taste or smell the skunk influence in the strain and more like the northern lights in a way. Very interesting taste but not one I find very appealing...

The High: Well this one definitely emulates its sativa structure with its high. One hit definitely changes your mind set, and you feel energetic, almost busy minded with clarity. I ended up smoking a bowl of this, and then cleaning my pipe, some of my house and then decided to write these smoke reports>>lol, and want to keep going with something else after I'm done...This is NOT one you would want to smoke when trying to relax or go to sleep as I find it would keep you up...Overall a very clear high, energetic where you don't really feel stoned, definitely great for anxiety as you want to just go do something :) I am not sure if this one will stay in my garden or not, I do have a nice 3' plant in my other tent growing, and I may run her 1 more time, but probably not going to keep it as I favor blue dream which has a very similar high...

GSC..(Thin Mint Pheno)

IMG_20150117_203736.jpg
IMG_20150117_203749.jpg

This cut I have run about 4x now and it is definitely one of my favorites I have in my garden. Its an amazing example of GSC which is a medium to low yielding plant but creates some of the most dense nugs I have ever had. The buds are absolutely covered in trichomes during flowering and the scent is very OG heavy with a hashy sweet smell to it and later in flowering gains purple accents to the buds and leaves with a very thick and dark green look to the sugar leaves. One of my favorite plants to grow, but gets really fussy when you supercrop her too much...she starts growing like a vine and needed a lot of support.

Upon drying the GSC it became very very fragerant, the type where you open the jar and within seconds the entire room smells like very strong bud. The smell is that of OG Kush which is dominant on the smell, followed by a peppery/hashy sweet smell which is very hard for me to describe by something familiar...other than if you have tasted GSC, you know that flavor..

Upon smoking the inhale is smooth but expands rappidly in the lungs but hits really hard strait to the forhead after a hit. You definitely feel this one instantly, and the high is less energizing than the Churchberry, but its not a total couchlock either... This one would be great for working on a long daunting task, or doing a project, or enjoying a movie or games... definitely helps with relaxation of the muscles, but the head seems fairly focused. The taste when inhaled is a mix of a heavy OG kush accent with a very heavy Peppery spicy hashy taste to it, and a hint of a sweetness not really a berry but more like a kiwi type sweetness to it. The more you smoke it seems you become engulfed in the high and eventually the high shifts to a heavy sleepy sedative type high, naps are frequent with this strain :) This one will stay in my garden for a long time :)

GDP (supposedly)

IMG_20150117_205330.jpg
IMG_20150117_205409.jpg

I was pretty disappointed with the GDP turning out to be just another cut of GSC and I kind of had my suspicions all the way through this grow as it looked exactly identical to my GSC cut above. But I guess if it was a mislabled strain, at least its one of my favorites :) This cut grew almost exactly like the GSC I had for a few cycles and upon harvest the smell was identical to my thin mints cut. Same OG heavy hashy/peppery/spicy smell to her with a hint of sweetness. I packed up a bowl and upon inhale pretty much same as my description of my thin mints... no difference at all besides being a different plant in a different pot.. Still very happy to have a nice cut turn out well but I will be ending this cut after my current grow and keeping the other as it still is amazing :)

Purple Urkle (supposedly)

IMG_20150117_210813.jpg
IMG_20150117_210532.jpg
IMG_20150117_210521.jpg

Well again... another dispensary lacking care with their clone labeling... it turned out to also be GSC... so I actually ended up with 3 GSC plants this round which even though disappointed that the dispensary screwed up, at least it was a screw up in my favor :) This one turned out a little better than the other two in terms of look and curing because it was pulled 1st and had higher humidity while the others I was struggling to keep the humidity up with the dry spell we had. Overall the taste is the same as the other 2, same high and smell so I really don't have to re-type that I guess but this one will also bite the dust after this current grow because I already have the thin mints cut I've had for a while.

Well blue dream.. what can I say besides yum :) This is one of my favorite strains and I definitely have a good cut of it this time, that familiar smell and taste :) Well the blue dream turned out really good, and it had that classic blue dream smell to her while growing, that berry citrus fruity type aroma and the classic sativa dominant look. And she ended up being a pretty nice yielding plant for being kind of crammed in her space.

Upon drying the blue dream immediately I knew this was the blue dream that I've come to love. It has that fresh, almost like an air freshener strength that fills the room. It has a very berry/citrus smell almost like a grapefruit or orange to her as well but very fragrant especially when broken up or grinded in my spacecase grinder.. When you inhale the first hit, very very smooth smoke fills your lungs and they definitely can hold it for a while unlike the others. The high comes on less noticeable on the body but mostly in the mind, very strong mental clarity with a busy mind type though where you start thinking of all the things you have to do and want to get them going type racy feel. I love this about blue dream, perfect for projects or getting tasks done with joy and a smile and extra kick in your stride... The taste of the hit is just like it smells, very fruity citrus taste like a orange or a grapefruit and fills the air with an almost inscence type smell of citrus... I absolutely love this strain and I am happy to now have a good cut :) Growing her again in my current journal :)

Well I saved the Ogiesel for last... since I already know she is probably one of the heaviest of the bunch in terms of couchlock...This strain is another just beautiful strain... which is why I have had it for a while and will for much longer. Its a beautiful blend of OG kush x mass super skunk x diesel and it really mixes them quite well. The OG kush and skunk are very apparent on the smell of this one, and its very very resinous and sticky. It really is one that you open the jar up and it smells like the jet fuel/lemon/skunky OG smell and really strong musty skunk smell around the room. The bud on inhale is surprisingly smooth for the amount of trichomes it packs on, and really again exhibits the OG kush jetfuel/lemon/skunky traits as well as the musty skunky traits and almost a garlic aftertaste... I don't really taste the diesel in it, but haven't had too much of it either to really know it well. the high also is very very heavy, but is more of a slow creeping high that constantly gets more intense and stronger. Its definitely good for relaxing, muscle soreness, chilling and not doing much and not only slows the body down but the mind as well. This is why I saved this one for last...all these tests I did in a row :) so I knew if I smoked this one first I wouldn't have wanted to continue doing much..LOL.
