Illinois to go legal Cannabis with 5 plant personal grows allowed

As Gomer Pyle would say "Suprise,suprise,suprise" Illinois has jumped ahead of middle America with one of first programs swapping opium prescriptions for Med Cannabis now the new Gov has kept a campaign promise of making herb legal. He is tossing a 5 plant cap on home grows but as we know 5 plants can do the job if grown with Love. Not used to these politicians remembering campaign promises much less keeping good on them. Law will change Jan 1st. if Dem Governor's proposal passes. Dems are in control of votes to easily pass the new law.

Well, it passed!! And even though home grow was limited to medical users, the fact that less than 5 plants is a civil violation with a max $200 fine is no deterrent and I consider that a victory all around.

I don’t think it was a tax revenue reason. From what I witnessed, the Sheriff’s Association was against home grow because it was too hard to police. The Senate compromised and the police still came out in opposition (surprise, surprise).

However, I’m certain homegrown will be legalized down the road and I’d rather have no home grow but legalization than nothing at all.

I was meaning Illinois legalized herb for money, not that home grow stipulations were because of the dollars. Happy all the same that the law passed. Thanks for your update on the civil penalty for HG. Your assessment that the penalty is no deterrent I agree.
LMAO my younger bro spent a ton o money moving to Colorado to live in freedom. I told him the state of Illinois was broke and this would happen. I had no idea when, but the writing was on the wall.

Somebody needed to tell cops if homegrow was legalized they wouldnt have to worry about enforcing. $200 civil infraction is a lot better though than misdemeanor. And this will be hopefully be rarely enforced. Not a lawyer but how can they justify creating a class of citizens allowed to grow 5 plants while others would be subject to punishment for doing the same?
Also the pols are all excited about the new money but why did they limit non residents to 15 grams? If they want to raise money sell the non residents all they want! Its almost like the law was written by people unattached to reality.

5 plants is plenty mate.
Indoors that's 5lbs if you can afford the leccy bill.
Outdoors in decent sun it could get you half your body weight....if you can afford the security fence, cameras, couple snipers and the odd German Shepheard. Maybe a tank or 2 and some landmines. Few machine gun drones and decent pharmaceutical to calm your nerves with having 25 kilos in your back garden lol.

I'm UK though. Too much health and safety here for it to just be made legal.
It would require liscencess, visits from safety professionals, visits from regulatory authorities, specialist insurance policies.
They'd make it so we couldn't afford to grow at home with red tape and legalize on a commercial basis with rights given exclusively to" gh pharma"
It's already legal for them and they've been producing hundreds of tons In the UK every year since somewhere around 2000.
We've always been and still are the world's biggest supplier of medicinal marijuana as far as I know but still illegal to grow it as if it's for medicinal.use then it's technically "tax avoidance"

I'm in Scotland where it might get legalized like you guys have it if we go indipendent. Would be as I've stated though. Wouldn't be allowed much but we'd get it.
with England in charge though there's no chance sadly . There's is a different legal system and different country altogether.
Scottish police literally don't give a fuck about it. It's still illegal but they officially stated a couple years ago that it was wasting too much of their time so they were stopping charges for possession of "personal use" amounts.
And unofficially, unless the judge has a personal grievance with it. Which most of them don't. Then for 2-4 plants in a square metre with 600w is usually around a £350 fine and telling off.
Well worth it for a pound of bush.
350 the first time you get caught.
Maybe a grand the next time.
Then you'll get a hundred hours unpaid work.
Then you'll get 300 hours unpaid work and some bullshit fine that probably be a few grand.

As long as your record is clean and your not doing more than a few in a square metre there's zero chance of jail time. were much better off risking the fines than we are fighting for legalisation.
I do punt a bit so I'm at risk of jail. Dealing is a bit more illegal but for guys who genuinely grow just a few plants for themselves it's safe as fuck
5 plants Is 2-3oz every 2-3 weeks in that set up with staggered autos.

I'm a smoker but I work full time and have a family so the thought of smoking an oz a week to me is mental. Can't be done.

An oz of weed generally makes like a quarter at very best of pure meds amd that's like 2 or 3 days supply for some folks.

get £30 per gram round here for anything you call medicinal or say is from cali. It's really weird. People actually jump through hoops to pay 500 an oz just cos you've said it's medicinal. And that's stoners I'm talking about. Not people that actually use it medicinally. Just idiots that think expensive means better and they're always happy to pay it. I don't get it like. If someone tried to charge me that I'd slap them but people genuinely want to pay through the teeth for it these days. Easier to punt it at 500 an oz and everyone think they're getting a bargain from cali than it is to go out at 240 and everyone think in they're being over charged for British weed.
Not a single person has even noticed that it's hydro and not organic. It's insanity.

@Barney86 There the same down here with cali imports but I like to call bedroom imports as you can now but any commercial bag on eBay and I mean every bag, they went from selling there £10 a g bud to £20-30 a g by putting it in a bag that costs a pound, this is why I grow my own as the majority of growers do it only for money and it's never grew properly, in picked some up that still had a 90% white hairs and that was dry, chucked it back and told him to keep it but they know people will take it so it never bothers them and there still getting 150-180 an oz for 90% clear trichs.

5 Plant grow could be fun, 1 mother to 4 plants or 2 flowering then 2 begging with 1 mother plant giving you a harvest every 8-9 weeks, few ways to make it really fun.

I have an appointment to get my medical marijuana card. I'm going to have my paperwork submited to the Illinois pilot program for taking opioids, and chronic back pain. I had presciptions for norco, and just got another presicription for Hydrocodone, so that works for both a condition, and taking opioids.

Google it, awesome unit designed to replace opiods. VA bought me one in IL. but denied a friend in PHX the same unit? But they sell a 300 dollar version that may help.

Think I've settled on 6 plants per run. Keeps me just about within the confines of the law. Get less than a £1000 fine if I get caught no matter how much is on them. 2 X 1 pounders at a time would be even more legal. £350 fine for 1-2 plants.

caught with a 30 plant sog that equal 2 pounds and it's most likely jail though. Go figure that one out ?) but it's a lot of very expensive eggs to put in such a small basket.
