Increasing yield with defoliation indoors: What's it mean? How to do it?

If you read the first posts and look at the pretty pictures, you might just see your answer.

Smart ass.....I can't say that...I don't know you...but what a way to make a new grower feel welcome......no wonder people leave this site and go elsewhere.

does this look correct ? This lst an defoliation is new to me. If I screw up I'd rather do it on my bag seeds ;) but gotta break a few eggs in order to make an omlet

My $.02

I have done it a few times and for the most part with positive results.

The times it didn't work as well was probably due to flipping to 12/12 to soon and not let the new shoots develop 3-5 nodes
like here where all the inner buds are just small and hugging the main stem and it did'nt turn in to the bush I had anticipated.
(ignore the yellowing, that's another issue)

After day 21, when this pic was taken this plant had gone without water/nutes for over 20 hrs and had water and heat stress. New drip setup and timer died.

Same plant day 22, she recovered nicely, supercropped 5 cola

The WW has recovered nicely from the defo but the SCH after defo and the Super Cropping is recovering a bit slower but looking good.

Thanks for the great explanation and knowledge share on this topic. I have finally finished reading from the front to the back, whew, I think I learned more in the past hour than in the past few years getting my hand dirty. I think I am going to give this a shot. You laid out the steps quite well and did a great job at setting a realistic expectation.

One thought I had that I wanted to throw out there. Since this process is somewhat dependent on the strain of the plant would it be worth while setting up a spread sheet to track the results of the various strains? Maybe a new thread where the OP could collect results posted by folks and list them on the first post? Just a thought.

Thanks again for sharing the info, one of the best reads I have seen to date. one week till the clippers come out (day 21). Wish me luck.

After almost 6 hours of reading I am finally done from page 1 -49 lol Man that was crazy. There are a lot of people who talk on here that haven't even tried things. That is crazy... A bunch of you guys talk about science this and that but haven't even ran a complete experiment to test results. I haven't grown in 6 years but I would use this method almost every time. (Indoor in soil). My current grow has Chernobyl 3 identical cuts from the same mother all grown in exact same conditions and training programs and nutes and watering schedules. I have defoliated 2 out 3 plants. Side by side comparisons in the weeks to come. Plant one was defoliated during veg and flower. Plant 2 was lollipopped and lightly defoliated in veg then completely removed in flower week 3.5 and plant 3 is as is with nothing but a basic lollipop. Here are before and after photos. I will get better shots in my journal. This method would be no good for someone who was having issues with their veg or flower stage. I have messed up some plants in the past because I did full hair cuts after they were sick. I am doing this with backbuilding as well to see what happens.

Thanks for this great thread Bassman59! Results will be in the month to come on my signature.

Great Thread Bassman59, I am really enjoying the read, learning loads and now am ready to defo!

Has anyone here experience with using this method on a 90% sativa strain?

Thanks .

I dig the way you train your plants brother. They take on a nice thick jungle look! Sick bro! Im always trying new training techniques; topping, pinching, fim, tying dow, Scrog…. its endless and I love to experiment!
