A bill that would regulate industrial hemp in Kentucky stalled this morning in the House Agriculture and Small Business Committee of the Kentucky General Assembly.

The Associated Press reports that there was a two-hour hearing this morning regarding Senate Bill 50 but that the committee took no vote on the bill.

Also, according to the report, Rep. Tom McKee, D-Cynthiana, the chairman of the House Agriculture and Small Business Committee, called for a university study of hemp.

The bill, sponsored by Sen. Paul Hornback, R-Shelbyville, passed the Senate two weeks ago.

The bill would make the state Department of Agriculture responsible for monitoring industrial hemp if the crop is legalized by the federal government.
