Industrial Hemp Issue Needs Further Study, Stumbo Says

House Speaker Greg Stumbo, D-Prestonsburg, said Saturday that legislation that would license Kentucky farmers to grow industrial hemp if federal restrictions are lifted needs further study.

House Agriculture and Small Business Committee Chairman Tom McKee, D-Cynthiana, wants to evaluate the issue to make sure there's a market for industrial hemp, Stumbo said.

"Everybody is saying, 'Well this is going to be a great thing for Kentucky farmers,' but nobody has produced any evidence that would verify that," Stumbo said.

State Rep. Terry Mills, D-Lebanon, the sponsor of House Bill 33 which would require industrial hemp growers to be licensed, said Saturday that he wanted Kentucky to move forward on the issue, but he also wants to reach a consensus with law enforcement and others with concerns. He said he would support one more year of study.

Senate Agriculture Chairman Paul Hornback, R-Shelbyville, whose Senate Bill 50 is similar to House Bill 33, said Saturday he thought his bill would be approved by his committee.

Since Industrial hemp has already been proven over other fibers in a variety of tests, and was once a mainstay of the US economy, and would require licensing (allowing for continued study of the issue; it appears that this is just another stall to me. Industrial hemp may not be the answer to all problems but would certainly give a much needed boost to the economy.

:cheer:This government is killing our country with their bullshit studies. If Hemp was profitable for George Washington why not our Kentucky Farmer's. Wake up and see the sea of green that you are denying to the people that have made it clear that we are tired of the lie that our government has perpetrated for all these years.Marijuana and Hemp are not the same and we want our God given plant restored and un taxed because it's a plant. That has many use's and why shouldn't we have the right to choose what naturally grown medicine we want to use. What's next Dandylions its a natural medicine too.Give Us back our rights to choose.:)

Who is he being subsidized by, I say this because he obviously has glaucoma of the rectum and don't see clearly at all. Maybe the alcohol has clogged his arteries and is also hardening them at the same time. Is this man ill?

Sounds like a good way to start getting a grip on our national deficit, boost our economy, relieve some of the unemployment problem, Oxygenate our Air, and , oh yeah, the industrial and medicinal value. What a dangerous plant.
