Iowa Man Dies After Traffic Stop

LINCOLN, Neb. - An Iowa man died hours after a traffic stop in Seward County.

A state trooper pulled over a car for failure to signal on Interstate 80 near Utica. The trooper found 10 pounds of marijuana in the car, the state patrol said.

The driver, Katrina Burch, 38, of Burlington, Iowa, and a passenger, Carl Beach, 40, of Fort, Madison, Iowa, were taken to the Seward County Jail.

Once at the jail, the state patrol said Beach began feeling ill and was taken to a hospital to be checked out. Beach's condition worsened while at the hospital and he was pronounced dead at 1:43 a.m, the state patrol said.

An autopsy is planned at Creighton University Medical Center.

State law requires a grand jury to be convened any time a person dies while in police custody.
