Crazy stuff..... one theory was way back when there was a land bridge connecting Asia to North America.... who’s to say they didn’t bring some seeds with them when they crossed.

Louis Hebert was the official apothecary to Samuel de Champlain. He grew hemp in Nova Scotia in 1606.

I live in northern MN. I have been looking! You can be sure. I'd love to find some and get some seeds from it to breed my own local autoflowering strain.
No evidence of it ever having grown wild in northern BC. There is no way that the natives would have ignored the plant.

The old world called dogbane Indian hemp also Apocynum cannabinum L. (Cannabinum) hemplike. If you find sativa it must be an escapee from cultivation. It's hard to believe that the native population never used it for cordage if it was always here.
Around here Indian hemp is another name for stinging nettles. Which we still use a lot, but mainly just for eating. It is related to hemp though, and can be used to make good cloth.
