Is more than 12 hours of darkness bad during the bud stage?

I've had my girls on 12-12 and was recently told that 9-18 is better. Is this true?

IMO,,, it would confuse the plant... hermy heaven!

With some Sativa strains, going beyond the 12 hour darkness is good at the very end of flowering. Helps keep them from going hermaphrodite.

In the winter months if there has been a lot of swings in the outdoor temps, I'll slowly decrease the time the lights are on down to 10 hours.
