Welcome to Obadiahs Journal! It is 2019 and that means I will be growing White Widow, among a few others. Those grows will have their own commendations on another forum page. This Journal is going to be updated almost daily, and for the next week or so it will be under construction.

As of today, the girls are all doing well and have marked their 1st week of life. Each one is healthy, stable, and strong. When they get bigger, we'll go more in-depth.

Here is all 5 girls, in order. They'll soon be joined by 5 more: 1 x Gelato, 1 x Bubba Kush, 1 x Strawberry Creme, 1 x Purple Punch, and 1 x Blue Cookies, all are Indica-heavy. Just a little sidenote.

UPDATE 1: 04/02/2019 (19 Days from pop)

Hey folks! I'm back, and I'm ready to update you on the progress of our White Widow.

Today is Day 19 from the day the seeds popped out of the ground, 21 days total. I have noticed some good growth, and they're all doing fine, but I have made 2 errors with #4.

First, About 6 days ago, I accidentally swiped at the cup when I went to swipe at a gnat, knocking the cup over, where she fell facing downward, under a pile of soil and a solo cup. I picked her back up, re-potted her taproot as deeply as I could after I dug a really deep hole for it, and she seems to be doing just fine.

Second, I accidentally topped a whole extra node during topping.

This one is also #4. This poor little thing. I went to top her, and I pulled too hard, taking the whole node with me. As you can see, she is down a node, but the auxillary buds have already shown themselves.

UPDATE 1: 04/04/2019 (21 Days from pop)

Hey folks! I'm back, and I'm ready to update you on the progress of our White Widow.

Today is Day 21 from the day the seeds popped out of the ground, 23 days total. I have noticed some good growth, and they're all doing fine, relatively speaking.

I had 2 minor accidents with #4:

  1. On 3/24 I accidentally knocked the cup over and it fell 7 inches onto the floor, landing upside down, buried under her own soil. I quickly got her upright again and repotted. Her taproot had been fully dislodged, but--thank God--so were a very large number of her lateral roots. I dug a good hole, pencil-stabbed the bottom to make a skinny tube for the taproot, and I made a few other pencil-sized holes off of that tube using a #2 pencil for the lateral roots. I got as many sections of roots back into soil and stretched out as I could.
  2. I accidentally topped her too far, cutting off the whole node instead of just its top. These White Widows are experiments as well, just like the rest of them. That means I'm going to try new things which I wouldn't typically try in order to expand my knowledge base. Its necessary. So, I topped these very early. They each had pushed out their 4th nodes, so I decided to top them, which, with the exception of #1, I did. (#1 was FIM'd). That leaves them with 3 standing nodes. However on #4 I removed the entire node when I pinched the top to remove it (which is why I usually use a clean blade or scissors).
So, here they are:
20190401_160637.jpg
20190401_160626.jpg

These next 2 are #4. Youll be able to see her whole node gone . It was painful, but I definately learned to use a blade.

UPDATE: 04/08/2019 (25 Days old)
As of today, the girls are doing fine. Their growth rate has begun to pick up a little bit, and last night they shot up a good amount. I transplanted #2 and #3, as they were beginning to overtake their cups, but since I don't have their smartpots just yet, I used a 1 gallon container. That provided at least more room for their expansion, but they'll be moved to their final, 7-gallon homes soon.

I've began giving them their nutrient regimine: Advanced Nutrients' GROW (2-0-1) and MICRO (2-1-0). I gave them that initial feeding about 3 or 4 days ago, around the 3 week-old mark, and they've taken a good liking to it.

Since each of my grows are experimental in nature, I'm trying something new and topping them at 3 and 4 weeks old, or when they reach their 3rd or 4th node. I've practiced topping for every cannabis plant I've ever grown, but not this early. I want to see about increasing my yield by topping early.

Here's some of the images from the last week or so

UPDATE: 04/21/19
Hey folks, I'm back with another update on our White Widows.

Thank you to everyone for yesterdays birthday wishes, I appreciate it!!! Dirty 30! Lol

☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆
The garden has run pretty well so far this season, minus a few mishaps of course.
This week, I made an amateur error by making two solid mistakes: I overwatered and overfed. When you overwater/feed, here's some of the symptoms:

  1. Leaves will shrivel and roll under themselves, curling downward hard.
  2. Leaves may begin to have a very swollen interveinal gap because they are too full of water. (The space between the veins on the leaf will bulge, looking almost wrinkly, giving an arch to the space between the veins, causing one side of the leaf to stretch, while the opposite side contracts, making the leaf curl downward).
  3. Plant growth will slow dramatically or even cease for a few days.
  4. Overfeeding will cause the leaf tips to burn, giving you your primary indication. Moreover it causes more slowing of growth because the plant has begun to lock out nutrients.
These aren't all the symptoms which may arise from overwatering and overfeeding, but they are a big part. Here are some images of the girls.

This is #5. She took the worst of the overfeeding beating. You can see shes curled, choppy, and smaller than ought to be. She is coming out of it, though, as some of the leaves are unfurled today and new growth has reappeared.
20190421_110023.jpg

Here is #1. She is the only one that I tried to FIM rather than top. It didn't really work the way I hoped, which would've given me 3 main stalks, but there is a small 3rd stalk there, MAYBE it will catch up. Shes a bit overwatered still, but comingout of it like her sister.
20190421_110017.jpg

This is #4. She's the one I mistakenly topped too far, but other than some slowed growth, she's doing well.
  • With these White Widows, I've managed to keep them healthy as I can until this week, but I'm getting very close to, if not already at the point where I must up pot. I live on a fixed income and its a bit difficult sometimes to get materials at the right time. I had an order of good soil coming but it was damaged so I had to reorder it. Im waiting on 5 more SmartPots for them which will be their final pots.
20190421_110001.jpg

These are #2, and #3 (#2 is farther away). They've done well in terms of overfeeding them, but they did get a little overwatered, so theyre busy drying out, too.
20190421_105947.jpg

These mext 5 images show the very early stages of this issue of overfeeding/watering. Notice how it started out with subtlety, barely showing some curling and a little leaf-tip burn. After 2 days of this, BAM, they got hit hard.

Welp, hopefully you have enjoyed my demonstration of how to be a great father to your plants and how to keep your girls alive. Haha! No worries, though, as a good friend of mine says, "theres no mistakes in the garden, just happy accidents" I guess haha. Till next time--

Happy Growing
