Jarhed's First Grow-Indoor-Come Visit My Garden - Opinions & Advice Welcomed

Re: Jarhed's first grow-indoor-come visit my garden :) opinions and advice welcomed

Ok let me back track a bit, to before i induced flowering to determine sex. While in veg. I picked up some stim root no.1 for cloning from Lowes I think for $8, I took 2 cuttings from each plant, so 6 total. I just wanted to try it I did plenty of research online about how to do it, I used miracle grow soil (I was told from an experienced grower that was my first mistake) they slowly died one by one, I think due to over watering, but you learn from your mistakes. I managed to root two of them by repeatedly cutting the soggy dead stock off and starting over and realized watering is not as important as misting and humidity, carrying on....

So plants are steady growing, I decide if I'm going to do a scrog I should do it properly, I went to Lowes and picked up some chicken wire, and strung it across the closet and attached it to 2 1 x 2's on both sides I've fastened in place about 3 feet up from the ground. Now listen to this, the whole time my plants are inside growing away, I go outside and check on that male plant, and its growing buds!? Its a female, what I originally thought was male parts were just some little nubs, and this is definitely another pretty lady :) seriously what are the odds? I ordered 4 seeds, one didn't sprout and the rest were female, is this unusual? I feel like the chances are slim to none, please someone tell me if anyone else has ever been so lucky.....so needless to say I invited her back in to grow with the other two lovely ladies, but from being outside in partial shade she stretched like almost a foot so she could get some sun, so in order to make her fit in my setup I tried something super risky, I super cropped her main stalk, you'll see in the pics where I bent her over.....here is what my new setup looked like

Notice how the top pic has a very blue looking light to it? This is about when I realized there was a protective plastic film on the reflector and attempted removing it lol it left a large melted blue patch above where the light bulb is, but doesn't seem to affect light coverage too too much......you live you learn ;)

So upon introducing my third plant BACK into my closet i quickly realized i was at max capacity for space, so time for flowering......AGAIN. Luckily for me my plants never really stopped flowering even at 20 on 4 off. I soon realized one 400 watt HPS is gonna produce a mediocre yield at best, so I placed an order for a second 400 watt, same as my original one. I had nothing but problems with the second one, after sending back ballasts and two weeks worth of trouble shooting and hassle I sent the fixture back and bought something locally. I purchased this time a 400 watt MH fixture and ballast (only because it was dirt cheap and used), but the bulb I went with by the advice of the store owner is the sun master warm deluxe. Now this is essentially a bulb that offers the best of both worlds, it is indeed metal halide BUT also has the reds and oranges needed for flowering. I figured what the hell, I'll give it a shot. Well to my surprise this bulb has done just as good if not better at flowering my plant than my HPS, I couldn't believe how lively and thriving my plants were, and the HPS side has huge nugz just doesn't looking nearly as green and healthy as its counterpart. I guess more or less it was an experiment.

I unfortunately don't have any pictures only videos of the results of my little experiment, but here are a few photos of my plants in the beginning stages of flowering......I have a question, is there any way I can't link videos of my grow onto this thread? I have about 5 or 6 videos I would love to share with everyone with my trials and tribulations, experiments and different techniques explained in a descriptive fashion. Maybe I can post them on YouTube and link them here? If not we are going to miss out on about the last 2 months of my grow as I really only took videos at this point.

So my birthday just passed August 3rd, turned 28, well I came home from golfing to a surprise birthday party set up by my wife (sneaky bugger), and she knows I love my dope, so her being clever as she is had this cake made for me, thought you all might get a kick out of it, I was certainly impressed....

Well I guess if I can't post my videos of progress in between the pics and now, I'll show you what I've got now and explain a little about what I did in those approx. 2 months. First week of flowering I removed all the undergrowth, and super cropped every top branch that was poking through the screen, I may have got a little carried away when removing undergrowth I ended up removing almost every fan leaf that even so much as shaded a bud let alone covered them. Also from the last photos I began using flowering nutes, I used one treatment of "miracle gro bloom" lol I know such a newbie thing to do, and after telling one of my fellow growers about it, he told me I was an idiot and to flush for a week and start using nutes that he so kindly donated to me
IMG_20120810_215151.jpg
IMG_20120810_215141.jpg
so initially I started out with 3 mls/1.5 litre of part A and B, and then next feeding i used 4 mls/1.5 l, and gradually worked my way up to 5 mls, 6 mls, then today I did 7 mls. Never any signs of nute burn, did plenty of flushing between feedings, and plants are loving it.

So now I'm about roughly about 3-5 weeks away from completion (as told by a member of this site :) ) and now its just a waiting game....I've made it this far so I'm pretty happy with what I've accomplished on my first grow, its been quite an experience, I've learned so much in such a short period of time! For my next grow I plan to use clones from the clones I've got started right now, I'm thinking maybe SOG next grow to utilize the closet space, but I will play it by ear, but now the moment you've all been waiting for....pics of my nearly finished plants :) :) :) (sorry about the poor quality of some of the photos, the metal halide causes weird lines in pictures) enjoy.....

Well at least I used that stupid tent for something, needed a spot for my clones so I purchased a 4 bulb t5 high output 2 ft fixture, so these are the beginning of my next crop

Small world indeed :) what parts are you from if you dont mind me asking? Ya unfortunately there is only one hydro store in my area, and the prices are a bit extreme so I tend to make the majority of my purchases online, eBay and such. To compare prices for example I picked up a digital 400 watt MH/HPS combo kit, came with ballast, reflector, MH/HPS BULBS, socket for $185 delivered to my door off eBay. Needed a second light ordered same light online, had nothing but problems with it so I sent it back for a refund, and bought locally, picked up a used ballast (MH because it was all he had for used ballasts) reflector, socket and MH flowering bulb for $226! Just goes to show the mark up compared to online vendors. Do you have a grow journal going? Paste a link on mine so I can check it out if you do, cheers and happy growing.............grogr33n

Never mind found your journal, wow its quite lengthy, might take me a few months to get threw it, can you tell me what pages you have pics of your harvest on so I can check it out? Lol I tend to go right to the pics of peoples grow journals, as the old saying goes, pics are worth a thousand words ;)

Im from chatham kent, The closes hydro store is windsor for but its costly there too. I havent harvest much yet, I started back in march and planted most of my plants outdoors. so soon Ill have a nice harvest, i did start a 2ltr coco grow that ill keep a update on. Ya hydro stores probly don't make much money since the internet started making it more convenient for us, so they mark up their prices to pay the bills I'm assuming. I still visit my hydro store for small things like nutes and advice, that's about it, the owner's been trying to sell me this old beaten up, run down bubble cloner lol cuz I mentioned I wanted to try it out, but he'd have to pay me to take that thing off his hands. Wow you just started your journal in March and you have 200+ pages to it, that's insane! I've been trying to get people to visit my journal for over a month, I can't figure out how to get my grow journal to show up on my posts like everyone else seems to have so my journal is being neglected for the most part, I only started my journal a few weeks ago, but I back tracked back to when I started my grow, my plants were 3 weeks into flower when I started it. But I had taken pics throughout my entire grow so I did my entire journal in a couple days. I basically taught myself to grow through lots of reading and research, and then I found this site :) lol @ bud porn, that's my favorite type of porn. I just love to see the end result of peoples hard work. Well keep me posted, let's show these guys what Canadian growing is all about ;)

Whats up everybody? how's it growing? Just thought I would give an update on my grow, lol since most of my updates have been on other people's journal, I figure maybe I should catch you guys up on mine. So Im nearly ready to harvest my jock and my white widow Im thinking within the next couple days I might chop them, ive taken two different sugar leaf samples the past couple days and did a very close inspection both days, im noticing a combination of clear, milky and amber on every leaf i've checked. Milky mostly, and a few amber, and a few clear. Im moving at the end of September im hoping, so I wanna start the drying and curing process as soon as possible. Ive read about the 72 hours of darkness, has anybody had any extraordinary results by doing this? I know its supposed to increase trich production. Im concerned about bud rot if I continue to let these things flourish, they've probly been flowering for about 4-5 weeks now. ive flushed probably 4-5 times. I really should start keeping track of shit. i know they were little sprouts on may 27, so Im going on 3 months of them growing from seed to now. Is that typical? too long? not long enough? I LST'd my clones, theyre looking great ill post pics here shortly, phone is acting up and wont let me post them.
