Judging Trichrome Color

Just got a handheld microscope off Amazon. It's a Carson, 60x-120x, with a bright white LED light on it.

When I look at the trichromes with the LED off and just the HPS lamp on, they look mostly clear. When I turn on the microscope's white LED, they look mostly, if not completely, milky/cloudy.

Tried taking pics but can't get my camera to focus down the eye piece.

This is my first grow. Started from a "grab bag" of random seeds from last seasons outdoor grow of a relative's so I have no idea what strains I have.

I much prefer a high energy high over the couch lock type.

So the million dollar question....

Does anyone have experience checking out trichromes with a handheld that has an LED light? Do clear trichomes appear cloudy under bright white LED?

If they're mostly cloudy I plan to harvest at the end of the week. Mostly clear and I'll let them go another week or two.

Thanks in advance!

You’re in an enviable position, Midnight.
It sounds like your girls are at the part of their life cycles when it’s ok to take a little tester to see how they’re doing. So what do they look like under magnification away from the HPS?
I am NO expert, but the consensus up here is that noobs like us tend to chop early, but maybe that’s what you’re after for a thc weighted :cbd ratio?
Can you show us a pic of a bud?

Hi MT welcome to the show.... sounds like your close to harvest :yahoo:congrats! I check the same with a loop with a LED attached, trust your eyes with the scope under no other lights but the LED from the scope. Grow well and prosper my friend.

Clear to cloudy is a little easier to judge than when they start to turn amber. While you you want them all to be mostly cloudy. Waiting for amber trichomes to show up can cost you if you wait to long. Not something many new growers do lol. Still something to remember.

The biggest thing to remember. To early will cost you THC and production. Trichomes look fine under bright LED lights.

Hard to call, without a look thru the scope, I do see more white hairs than I prefer, Veva la difference
Keep the tries clear to partly cloudy if that’s your taste. I get headaches if clear to cloudy when harvested dried an cured properly don’t know Y? Lol

When your looking at them under the hps try cupping it with your hand to block the light from hps or something I know hps will make them look like they have Amber when it hits just right I use my note book now to block the light because I get all excited seeing Amber then check outside the room and there still clear milky trust the light on your scope
