KanaGirl's Living Coco & GeoFlora Grow

Watering daily is only necessary if you are doing a hydro style grow in coco. When you add dry amendments, you need to treat it more like a soil grow - water when dry (or partially dry). I never let the coco dry out fully. You're feeding the soil (coco), not the plant.

When I used Dr. Earth, in flower I did need to supplement with compost tea - I used Botanicare's Pure Blend Tea, just for sake of ease. I'm really HOPING that I don't have to supplement the Geoflora Bloom, as I think my medium is now behaving more like a soil medium with all the microbes working to break down the nutes and feed the plants.

If you water every day, you may be washing away too many of your dry amendments. So, if you're seeing yellowing leaves, there isn't enough nitrogen, and they need more food.

I'm going to add extra top dressing, and feed more often going forward with the Geoflora. Do you have a current journal I can check out to see what your plants look like? If not, feel free to upload a photo here in my journal ;)
In my signature. Stoner’s book report Is my current journal. I’ll back off of my watering and see how it goes. Thanks!

Bloom - day 13 (21 days from flip)

Sorry for the lull in the journal - I just got back from vacation. My husband did a great job watering the girls while I was away. I believe they finished up stretch while I was gone and the buds are setting up nicely.

Today they got a top feed of Geoflora Bloom and a heavy watering to runoff. All deficiencies seem to have resolved and the girls are doing well. I defoliated today, trimmed up the lower skirt, removed inner leaves and some sucker branches.
Lights are at full power and were raised a bit today. Lux in the tent ranges from approximately 50k - 65k.

Daytime temp 79; night time temp 68
RH ranges from 45-50

Here they are before defoliation:

I started the seeds by soaking in water for 24 hours on Thursday September 2nd. I was going out of town for a couple days over the labor day weekend, so I needed to get them into pots before I left.

Planted in solo cups on Friday, September 3rd:
Solo cups were a mix of 70/30 coco/perlite - this was leftover from my last grow. I added substrate to approx 1/3 of the solo cup, then a thin layer of EWC, a sprinkling of DynoMyco, filled the rest of the cup with substrate and then popped in the seeds about 1/2" down with a sprinkle of Great White at the bottom and sides of the hole.

Seeds were then germinated under my Click & Grow led lamps. I didn't have time to set up my light and I had a new Gorilla tent on order. Grow with what you got, that's my motto :p

We have the following strains (all feminised):

Barney's Purple Punch x 1
Phoenix Seeds Blueberry x 2
Seedsman Wedding Cake x 1
Alien Rock Candy x 1

When I came home on Monday night, all 5 seeds had germinated and were a little stretched, so I set them closer to the lights and on Tuesday I hung my ChilLed bar to get them thru the seedling stage until my tent arrived.

Here's a few pics to what I came home to. I'm calling this Seedling - day 2

Hey @KanaGirl I'm late to this party but am interested in seeing how this plays out as I want to get an understanding on coco growing so if you don't mind I'll sit in the corner and catch up :nomo: while sending positive greenthumb vibes to you and the ladies.....I'm rooting for you :woohoo: :goodluck:
Happy growing :rollit:

Veg - day 21

The lovely emerald green color has returned to the garden. These girls are really moving now. I had to RE-TOP one of the Blueberry (back left) down to the 4th node because over night she stretched 3 inches and was towering over the other 4. I want to keep the canopy as level as possible, so down a node it went. It did not stop her at all, and since last night she is spreading out and working hard on that 4th node. I will have to watch that girl closely, because she is definitely a taller genetic than the rest.

Lights are now approximately 34k lux in the center, about 31k lux on the outer plants.

Somehow I have fungus gnats. Not sure where they came in, and I haven't had to deal with any pests on any of my previous grows with coco. I did add EWC this time, so maybe that's how they got in? Overnight Saturday a generation must have hatched and when I woke up on Sunday, there were a bunch of flies stuck to my sticky traps. At least now I know what they look like - LOL!

I coated the surface of the pots with DE, and this morning noticed just a few on new traps I set out last night. I will watch the tent closely this week and will do a foliar treatment with Mammoth Canncontrol if neccessary.

Here's a few pics of the girls today:

The ladies are thriving and looking like fine wine @KanaGirl sorry to hear about the gnats but you seem to be all over that issue keep on doing what you do it's a lot of love going on in that tent of yours :bravo:

Bloom day 25 (33 days from flip)

Girls are doing great, nothing much to report. They continue to stack well, and are getting more frosty by the day. I'm entering week 5 from flip and hoping they will start putting on more weight and trichomes. I stocked up on recharge during BF and also got some Purpinator (as 3 of my 5 ladies are colorful genetics). I'm hoping the purpinator will bring out more color. Anyone else have experience with purpinator??

They got another topdress today with @GeoFlora Nutrients Bloom and threw a little recharge in for good measure. I will try adding the purpinator next watering - they are on a 2 day schedule.

Here are a few shots of the garden today:

Super sad to report that my Alien Rock Candy went hermie

Not really sure why, I've worked hard to NOT stress these ladies this grow - very little training, minor defoliation, and environment has been very dialed in. The only stressor I've had is some nutrient deficiencies with the Geoflora in coco.

Now I'm just hoping and praying that none of the pollen sacs opened in the tent :nervous-guy::nervous-guy::nervous-guy:

Goodnight sweet girl

QUESTION: this plant is in week 5 of flower and has quite a bit of frost. I have cut the plant down and put buds in paper bags to dry out. I typically use all my buds for oil anyway, does anyone have experience if it's worth even drying these??

Bloom day 46 (54 days from flip)

It's been awhile since I updated this journal. Next week will be their final week. I think they could probably go a bit longer, but unfortunately, I am going out of town for the holidays and will need to harvest just before I leave. I will however, have someone monitoring the drying while I'm gone.

An update on the Geoflora in coco... I've had significant deficiencies in flower (off and on), mostly yellowing, which I've been able to fix by using supplemental teas. The top feed with geoflora has not been able to keep up with their nutrient requirements, even feeding more and every 10 days instead of 14 days. At one point the yellowing was so significant, I had to pull out some botanicare nutes, just to get them back on track.

If you look closely, there is still yellowing around the edges of the leaves. One of my plants in particular started to go fully yellow, and I had to give it some additional nitrogen to get it to green back up. Can anyone help diagnose what deficiency this yellowing on the edges means?

They had their last feed 7 days ago, with a last supplemental tea 5 days ago. They are set to be harvested in 9 days. Currently, most trichomes are about 80% milky, but no amber yet.

I hope everyone is having a lovely holiday season so far!!

Here's a few pics of the girls today:

The girls are DONE!! YIPPEE :yahoo:

Here are some final shots, these pics are from a few days ago. The blueberry strains were
showing lots of beautiful fall colors, not sure if the Purpinator helped create those colors, or if they would have shown on their own. The smell is AMAZING!! They smell just like blueberry muffins - YUM!! :yummy:

Nice manicure!

Don’t know if this is still open but what an interesting read. I’m a coco, perlite, bokashi, frass, and Prescription Blend guy. I have been considering trying Geo in coco just to see. As I read through the grow, what I see is that you had every issue I would expect from Geo and coco. They plant needs exceed what the Geo can provide without amending, and amending is a guessing game at best. This is why I haven’t tried it before. That said, you did an absolutely excellent job working around the issues, and your buds turned out great! Thanks. I know I’m way late on this but it was cool and I wanted to share just in case it’s still open.

Here’s what coco, perlite, bokashi, frass, and Prescription Blend can do. This is a Mimosa photo in a 7 of the coco blend listed above. I learned everything I know about growing in coco from @Bill284.
