An alleged marijuana-by-mail scheme has landed two men in jail, police said Wednesday.

After a four-month investigation, police and the U.S. Postal Inspection Service arrested the two men believed to be involved in a plot to distribute marijuana through the mail, police Detective Sgt. John Stillwell said in a prepared release.

Kevin VanHorne, 44, of Ronald Road, here, and Donovan Lewis, 27, of Kentwood Boulevard in Brick were arrested Friday. Both are charged with possession of more than 5 but less than 25 pounds of marijuana and possession with intent to distribute marijuana within 500 feet of a public park.

The two men were getting marijuana mailed to them from Phoenix, Stillwell said.

VanHorne's bail was set at $100,000 and Lewis' bail was set at $150,000 cash, by state Superior Court Judge Francis R. Hodgson Jr.

The investigation is continuing and other suspects are being pursued, Stillwell said.
