Larimer Co. To Decide On Marijuana Stores

Retail marijuana businesses could be getting close to operating in unincorporated Larimer County.

County commissioners on Monday will conduct a public hearing on land-use regulations for licensing retail marijuana businesses, including stores, grow operations and facilities for testing and manufacturing marijuana-infused products.

Each type of business would require an annual license in order to receive a state license to operate. Preference would be given to the two existing medical marijuana businesses in the county, which operate just outside Fort Collins city limits.

Under regulations recommended by the county planning commission, no more than two types of marijuana business licenses would be allowed in the county. Edible marijuana-infused products could not be manufactured or sold in retail stores, although the ban would not apply to topical products, oils and tinctures.

The regulations also would restrict the distances marijuana businesses must be from schools, child care centers, parks, houses of worship and other facilities.

Businesses would be restricted to operating from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and could be open seven days a week, under the proposed rules.

Colorado voters approved legalizing retail marijuana last year. The county has until Oct. 1 to adopt regulations for marijuana businesses or ban them.

The Fort Collins City Council has tentatively approved a temporary ban on retail stores through March while it goes through a public process to craft regulations.
