Richmond - Virginia epilepsy patients are one step closer to getting medical marijuana for their illnesses.
The VA Senate Courts of Justice Committee advanced SB 1235 on an 11-2 vote Monday.
A companion bill also advanced out of the House Courts of Justice Criminal Law subcommittee.
Parents who care for children with drug-resistant epilepsy have pushed hard for lawmakers to legalize a cannabis oil-based treatment for their kids. The method has shown promise elsewhere.
State Police representatives are concerned about the clash with federal law.
