Light of Jah - Early Wonder Skunk - Soil - OC+ From Seed

Hi all, I will be growing from seed in soil. I have read many of the posts on this site which is FULL of useful information. I am most familiar with soil so I will be growing in a soil medium.

Strains:
5 non-feminized seeds of "Light of Jah" from the Amsterdam seed bank.
4 feminized seeds of "Early Wonder Skunk" autoflowering from the Vancouver seed bank.

I will veg in a closet under CFL's. I have around 300W total in CFL's (some 45W's, some 23 W's).
For flowering I will move my plants into a grow tent, 4x4x8 under a 600W HPS lamp.

I used the paper towel method to start the seeds. After 24 hours, some of the seeds started cracking. 48 hours after placing them on the paper towel, all seeds have cracked and were put into 3x3 starter pots.

Once they sprout they will be placed under 18/6 light schedule.

Medium: I am using roughly 35% perlite, 35% peat moss, 15% coco, and 15% mushroom compost.

Nutes: OC+. I have decided to go with inexpensive time releasing nutes because I am still learning.

Re: Light of Jah, Early Wonder Skunk, Soil, OC+, from seed

Hey H&W, you're a hard guy to track down lol.

I think you'll love OC+, give them plenty because you can't over do it. On their website they grew marigolds in a container with 7x the recommended dosage and they were perfect.

I'd do 2 tablespoons per gallon at least, you don't want them running out before the grow is done if you can help it.

Make sure you give some to your seedlings too, it won't hurt them and in fact you'll grow spectacular little plants. Somehow the oc+ knows just when to give them what they want. No burn, no worries, they'll just grow.

Looking great, good luck!

Re: Light of Jah, Early Wonder Skunk, Soil, OC+, from seed

Thanks for stopping by my new journal guys. I appreciate the company. @BD, yeah I'm doing 2 tbsp per gallon as DocBud suggests. I have added some to the soil that the seedlings are in also. Other than that there isn't that much to report. I'll be doing another update in the next few days (probably on Saturday or Sunday). The girls are doing good. No explosive growth but I'm not worried. As long as they're growing and developing, I won't complain. They are only getting water at this point.
I will be making compost tea in the next week or so and will be feeding the girls with the tea. Will definitely update when I do that.

Hey Hemp...followed you over from being sub'd to the last journal. I hope nothing too radical happened that caused you to start this new one. Best wishes!

Lookin good. Cant wait to see the final product. Congratulations on the birth of your daughters.:bravo:

Re: Light of Jah, Early Wonder Skunk, Soil, OC+, from seed

:thankyou: to everyone who has stopped by. Girls are still growing. The nodes are packed very very tightly together and the stems are getting thicker and thicker. I wonder if I'll be able to LST them (like I wanted to do) if they don't start stretching a bit in the next few days. I think I will make compost tea for them over the weekend and maybe the vertical growth will pick up. We'll see. Until then, keep RoorRipRoorRipRoorRipRoorRipRoorRip

Re: Light of Jah, Early Wonder Skunk, Soil, OC+, from seed

Looks like a good grow so fare, but if I my give a pointer lst works better when the nods are closer together so I wouldn't try to stretch them to much if at all. I would start the training when they get to about 6 inches tall no matter what the nods are doing the plant will figure out if it needs to stretch itself to accommodate the training, but that's just how I would do it.

Marley, Tmac, Bulldog, :welcome:

Thanks for the tip Bulldog, I appreciate it. I don't get upset if someone gives me their opinion. It's a great way to learn. I was going to wait until about 8-10" high before I was going to LST them. It's just that I was trying to bend them today and the stems are really rigid. I won't intentionally stretch them because I do want to keep them tight (hence the LST) but I was just wondering how I'm going to do that if the stems will just get thicker and stiffer. I guess I'll figure it out once they get to about 6" tall. :thankyou:

Re: Light of Jah, Early Wonder Skunk, Soil, OC+, from seed

imo they're tougher to lst when the nodes are so tight like that, and if you keep the light close they won't stretch afterwards either, or at least mine didn't. I kind of ended up with a leaned to one side log. If I was doing it again I'd back the light off a bit, you don't want a ton of stretch but you need some space between the nodes.

In my last grow (inside) one of my blue dream streaked towards the light so fast that I used a plastic coated hanger and bent the stem 90 degree's and tied the stem to the hanger, she did great and produced additional cola's.

Thanks for your input guys. I do really appreciate it. :thumb: I will be waiting a few more days to see what they do. I'll just deal with it when they get to about 6". They are about 5 inches away from the lights and I think I'm going to move them down a couple inches. I have about 300W in CFL's over the girls so I think that's why the nodes are so closely stacked. I'm very happy though that the stems are so rigid because it will help in supporting the massive colas these girls are going to produce. :goof::goof::goof:...or maybe I'm just getting ahead of myself here :)
