Lower Alps Outdoor: Three In Soil

I recently moved back to Europe from Hawaii. With the legal CBD cannabis being introduced here and legal now, quality THC cannabis is hard to come by.

I decided to grow three outside in pots. I started Bubba Kush, Amnesia Fast and a Peyote Forum from Seedsman. All three germinated in around 40 hours. I put in planting soil and all seeds broke ground in a couple days. I am calling May 10, day 1. It was still rather cold. For the first few days I kept in a windowsill that had good afternoon sun. I then put outside in the day and brought in at night. At 4 weeks I potted up and left outside day/night. I had some problems with rain so I moved around the yard for shelter from rain so the soil was not always saturated. My last grows were in Hawaii, here the plant growth is much slower. Now at 10 weeks, I expected more growth.

I am at 800 Metres elevation. 2600’

Soil is local garden soil; I added perlite at around 15%.

I decided to use Advance Hydro, Dutch formula 3 part for nutrients. If a next time, I will use organic nutes.

Pots are 19 Litre, 5 Gal. I drilled additional holes at bottom for better drainage and air.

The Peyote Forum had an odd start. In the seedling stage, it popped from the calyxes, grew the first single blade, then another single rather than a 3 blade. These 2 new single blades joined in center closing off any new growth, eventually starting new growth from the first single blades as if topped. Has anyone else seen this? See pic.

Nice view across the "lawn". The plants all look well, are you training them? With my outdoor plastic containers (aside from also drilling holes in the sides) I drilled small holes around the rim so that when the plant was bigger I was able to use them to tie LST wire to. Anyway, they are looking good! :thumb:

I have been tying back a bit so far. I zip tied some crossed bamboo over the top of the pots to beep my cat out. I use 300lb spectra to tie back, LST. I put a short slit in the lip of the pots and slide the spectra in to the slit, compression holds in place. Easily adjustable.

All three are showing preflower. Should start seeing actual flowering soon. We had some rain last night. Should be hot the next few days.

Getting bigger and starting to stretch. The Amnesia fast has started to flower. L to R Bubba Kush, Amnesia Fast & Peyote Forum. Will post more pics when there is more to show. I'm considering putting all on a 12/12 cycle by putting in the shed. We’ve had heavy rain for the last two days, it should be mostly sunny for the next week.

The sun came out so I took a few pics to show the weekly growth. Initial growth here was much slower than Hawaii. I have decided to force flower the Bubba K and Peyote Forum as they haven't naturally started yet. In to the shed for all three. If I force flower, do I need to keep them in the shed on the the same schedule for the duration?
I reread my first journal entry and saw that I inadvertently said "it popped from the calyxes" - I meant the cotyledons. No edit button that I saw.

I have not had experience force flowering a plant. But I wouldn't think you would want to go to 12/12 and then back again, that could cause the plant to go back into veg.

They're looking good!

Another week further along. A couple weeks ago I noticed some thrips and their eggs. Yesterday I completed the third spinosade application. I thoroughly whetted the plants 6 days apart. I think they have been eradicated now and hope they do not come back. Other than the thrips, I have had some caterpillars that BT has keeps at bay. There are alot of butterfly's this summer so I'll need to keep up with the BT throughout.
Overall, I am happy with this grow. I did think there would be more overall growth by flowering, although they are all fairly bushy. The weather here has been in the high 20's for the past week.
A bit pick heavy for this entry. Wishing all a great week, be safe.

I think your overall growth is restricted somewhat by the small pots.
I think you are correct, although I thought 5 gallons would be enough.
If plant size matters , especially outside , the bigger pot the better.
I grow inside w/ 5 gal pots knowing the plants will be restricted somewhat.
It allows for more plants , more variety in my grow space.
That being said , some folks grow monsters in 5 gal pots.

I'm not looking for quantity so much as I am concerned about being root bound.

Everything is progressing nicely. Last week I cut back the N-grow nutrients to about 25% of the max they were receiving. I started seeing more yellowing than I thought I should this early, especially on the Peyote. I upped the N back to 50% and have just started using some Epsom salts to supplement Mg. All have pulled N from the lower leaves to some extent. I started thinking it could be a lockout, but the upper leaves look so good.

I this much leaf yellowing normal this early in flower? Thank you all for the input.

Go to Grow section. Click on Problems , Pests & Disease.
Plenty of links to help diagnose your leaf issue.
Your girls are coming along nicely but that yellowing should not be happening this early.
I just harvested my 2cd AK/WW in a 5 gal pot .

@InTheShed should also be able to help w/ a diagnosis.
Thank you Senior, I agree. I looked, there are quite a few posts regarding yellow leaves. I even posted with pictures. “Another Yellowing Leaves Question" I didn’t get many responses. Was told it was due to not getting enough light. Upping the N for another 10 days and dosing lightly with the Epsom salts should give what is needed. I hope..
