Macclesfield's Cannabis Crackdown

FOLLOWING the overwhelming success of Operation Extinct police have carried out two more drug raids in the town — thanks to the residents of Macclesfield.

Detectives targeted two addresses seizing thousands of pounds worth of cannabis in one "factory" after they were inundated with information that came to light after the previous bust. More than 50 officers smashed drug activities in Macclesfield in the dawn raids of Saturday, March 24, and cops again used the element of surprise, this time executing the warrants in the afternoon of Tuesday, March 27, so criminals expecting an early raid were caught unawares.

Advertisement Head of Macclesfield Neighbourhood Policing Unit, Inspector Gareth Woods, was delighted with Operation Extinct's result and is also pleased that people are responding to his appeal for information. He said: "I am thrilled at the results. We have had people contacting us anonymously through Crimestoppers and through the voicemail because of the cracking report in the Express last week. Sometimes even the tiniest thing is just what we've been looking for, and is the information we need to execute a warrant — people might think it is nothing but it's just what we need!"

Macclesfield's new no-nonsense police boss added: "There is a distinct link between drug activity and general crime and I just want to reduce crime. I'm not bothered about working with other agencies — I just want crime reduced.
If we get information in association with drug activity we will deal with it, making it much more difficult to buy drugs."

A man has been arrested and released on police bail.
