BANGOR, Maine - A medical marijuana ordinance is on the agenda when the Bangor City Council meets this week.

Council on Monday is to vote on an amendment to the Maine city's land-development code that would restrict where a medical marijuana dispensary could be located.

The Bangor Daily News says the proposed amendment would need a two-thirds majority vote for approval because the planning board previously rejected it. Planners said distinctions between conditional and permitted use in the proposal were unclear.

The proposed ordinance would allow a dispensary in a variety of urban and service districts but restrict it in residential areas. Maine voters last fall approved an expansion of the state's medical marijuana law so it allows dispensaries.
