Marijuana has been legal to possess in the District of Columbia for approximately seven months, but now you can officially buy a bong from the man who made it all happen.

Adam Eidinger is reopening the doors to his head shop, Capitol Hemp, Wednesday, three years after D.C. police raided the original store, The Washington Post reports.

Under the current law, it is still illegal to sell marijuana in the city, though possession of up to two ounces of the plant is now legal. For Eidinger and the customers in his store that means they can now talk freely about what they intend to do with the items being purchased.

Prior to the legalization efforts led by Eidinger, it was illegal for the store to knowingly sell bongs and pipes for the purpose of consuming marijuana.

"We're totally ecstatic that this environment is so much more free and open [than it was before legal cannabis]," Eidinger told the Washington City Paper. "At the same time, we're paying taxes to the D.C. government."

Capitol Hemp shut down in 2012 when police raided the store and confiscated all of its merchandise. Police arrested seven people in the raid on charges for drug paraphernalia and marijuana possession. After the raid Eidinger took a deal with prosecutors in which he would get his merchandise – $350,000 worth of marijuana accessories – back if he agreed to close up shop.

After the raid, Eidinger led the charge to get marijuana legalized in the city, and after successfully getting an initiative placed on the ballot in November, district residents responded in huge numbers to support the measure.

Almost 65 percent of residents voted yes to legalize marijuana.
