Marijuana Growers Back in Force

Tennessee is on track to be one of the top three marijuana growing states this year.

Last year’s drought has given way to fertile soil, and it’s keeping the authorities very busy.

Everyday there are people looking for marijuana growing out in the open.

They search by helicopter and on the ground, and this summer they’re finding plenty of plants.

The skies over Tennessee have been busy with helicopters this summer. They’re on the hunt for marijuana.

"These folks are out there day in and day out, those helicopters in the air and we're looking," says T.J. Jordan.

During last year’s drought, the Governor’s task force on marijuana eradication saw a large drop in the number of marijuana plants.

Now, pot is plentiful.

"This year we're finding more robust plants, we seem to be excelling over the numbers we had last year,” T.J. Jordan.

Last year, the task force cut down 180,000 plants. This year they’ve already destroyed more than 400,000 and the season won’t even end until September.

"We had one of the largest marijuana eradications in the history of the program," says T.J. Jordan.

These are pictures from Cocke County.

The task force recently found 357,000 plants growing in a single forest. The street value of the plants is hard to believe.

"You're talking about $357 million of marijuana that we kept off the streets of Tennessee, and other cities across the country," says Jordan.

Everyday authorities are finding more pot growing operations.

"On Tuesday, a Metro Police officer was in a helicopter and spotted marijuana growing in a wooded area off of Cheyenne Boulevard in Madison," says Jordan.

Pilot Johnny Hansel spotted the 44 plants, and ground teams went in to cut them down.

The Governor’s task force focuses on the more rural parts of the state, where pilots are trained to pick out a single plant in the middle of a forest.

The success of this year’s eradication means one thing for the people who plant the pot.

"Too bad, so sad, for the pot growers of Tennessee," says Jordan.

The Governor’s task force has three teams searching for marijuana everyday, and they have plenty of help.

The TBI, Highway Patrol, Alcoholic Beverage Commission, and the National Guard all participate.

Yeah they're a sad sorry joke. But "Good Job" to the brothers and sisters of Tennessee for upping the numbers this year!! Over grow 'em. With the price of fuel it must be so satisfying to find "a single plant in the middle of a forest". Very worthwhile effort. :hmmmm:
