Martok's First Grow: 30 Mystery Seeds Grow Journal, Fall 2020

What’s up Martok!

Welcome to 420...! Nice setup you’ve got there. Don’t worry about the bells and whistles for now just get them growing. I’ve always said cheap is not cool, but low budget is, just be safe & don’t burn the joint down. Carcass has a $150 total budget grow journal on here, might get some ideas over there, heres a link Carcass

Alright more folks will jump in soon!
That's such a cool set up from Carcass! I've been thinking about a space bucket or something just like that so my mother could grow one all by herself for fun downstairs. Maybe I'll move that auto into something like that for her. So great seeing that you don't need a deposit for a car and botany degree to get started.

Sun 10/18
Hey pals. After getting some confirmation from @013 I moved my lone autoflower from the bunch to the larger tent that is still in 18/6. I'm also just leaving the BLOOM and VEG switches turned both on for that blurple, but I got green glasses  lol.

Dealing with very cold nights, warm days. I can't keep the temp consistent in that room but as the days cool down I don't think it'll be a problem. The tents usually peak at 75-77 but got up to 80 today. Tried pointing my clip on fan up at the little exhaust fan at the top to help. This was the first day that room couldn't benefit from the A/C pumping cool air in, and it wasn't cool enough for an open window to do anything. small grapes.

They'll be a week into flowering on Tuesday!

Almost 5 weeks in Veg. Autoflower is dead center!

This one is growing so compact, not sure what's going on.

What’s up Martok? I’m pretty new myself but this crew and studying here has made the difference. I’ve read when autos find the sides of container they start flowering. I run into heat problems at times during the warmest parts of summer, so I work the zippers around on my tent so it’s zipped from bottom but the top flap stays open to let the warmest air out. So to state the obvious - if plants are in flower it’s not gonna work, it’s gotta be totally dark with no ambient light or light leaks coming in.

That short squat plant is funky, maybe Low Ryder or similar type of genetics. 420 is a big place - don’t feel like you are all alone. If something bad happens or a question pops up feel free to send me a pm or you can drop questions on the FAQ page to get answers on anything.

All right man, it’s looking great over in your garden!!! Keep doing your thing.

Thanks 013!

I wasn't expecting an autoflower but I'll certainly take the early mini harvest from it before the others are ready. I'm really interested to see how that low one works out. The fun/anxiety of mixed bag seeds!

Hey pals, yesterday gave my babies some more nutes. We're now starting Week 6 for everybody.

Week 2 in flowering for the SOG tent, no signs of a male as far as I can tell. The 3 in the front row are a little shorter than the rest, they got a late start. I'm a little worried they can't compete with the rest, wish I could find a new place for them. But there's plenty here.
IMG_4471.JPG IMG_4470 - Copy.JPG IMG_4469 - Copy.JPG
Other tent is still in 18/6 until that auto flower finishes up. They've recovered from their second topping so just waiting a little longer for the stems to grow and I'll be able to lst some more maybe.
IMG_4468 - Copy.JPG IMG_4467 - Copy.JPG IMG_4465 - Copy.JPG

I'm a little concerned I was too rough with them while looking through for any more males. I wish I had found a better way to have my tent set up so I could unzip the entire thing and move around it freely.

But alas, I found 3 males I think in all so now that tent is down to 12 plants (3 males, 1 autoflower removed). 3 rows of 4, should give them a little more space to stretch out and breathe. We'll see what else develops!

IMG_4498.JPG

Haven’t noticed any more males yet. Everybody is looking good, one or two are just starting to show little white hairs . temperature is steady 77-79 daily, humidity is typically 48-55%

the other plants are doing well, the plant in the top left corner might go soon, it’s exceedingly slower to grow than the others and looks stunted as hell. The space might be valuable when I switch to flower, idk.

About 6 weeks since seed.

I’ve decided to switch both tents to 12/12 tonight because I’d rather just not take any chances with light from the 18/6 leaking to the 12/12 tent. The auto will yield less but my understanding is it would be fine, and the rest shouldn’t be far behind. I took out the runt of the big tent with one of the smaller ones from the other tent and stuck it under a window so anything it does is bonus.

Lot of growth last night. Starting to see some preflowers finally through the tent. Of the 16 I started with, 8 females, 6 males, 1 auto flower, and 1 still not sure about.

First 12 hour night for these. A little earlier than I originally planned but I feel better about keeping it dark now. I’m also just eager to get to to my next grow with seeds I buy.

It ain’t pretty but also spent some time today trying LST on three of the bigger plants. I should get some hands on experience on these before spending money on seeds for my next grow. I definitely gained some confidence and got more comfortable with my plants during the process. Only snapped one branch!

All got water and the smaller tent got bloom nutrients!

Decided I wanted to keep these in vegetative longer since I trained them yesterday. Gave them veg nutrients today.

Auto still looking good.

Saw early signs of a male in the last plant I wasn’t sure about so pulled that today. Now we’re all confirmed female and on to the good stuff! I was sad to lose the plant but maybe a little dehumidifier in the empty spot would be helpful.

Oh and so I put that little plant under a window in a dresser lol. It’s got a single 30W or so Black Magic LED. Temp around 24C and humidity steady at 50%. No fans or anything yet but seems to get a natural airflow bottom to top from the neighboring drawers. I’m gonna get some stuff to stick the car window sun screens on the walls better. just a fun experiment.

Somehow missed this massive male, I should have noticed it in the picture yesterday. Fingers crossed I didn't pollinate my entire grow room. Replaced it with one of the smaller ones from the other tent to start flowering tonight.

I grabbed the other remaining 2gal plant in the larger tent and put it under the window. So the big tent has 5 5gal plants, All have been low stress trained past few days, going to veg for another week or two. Then there's still the 1 auto-flower in the middle.
IMG_4572.JPG

The window plant and the dresser plant are on 12/12.

Rough morning. The hurricane/tropical storm knocked out my power this morning and I'm praying they weren't stressed out too bad.

Power went off around 630am. Power came back on just in time for lights at 9am. Then power went off again 15 minutes later :( . I opened the tents up and my ladies in flowering could at least get an open window of light. More concerning, humidity jumped to 80% while the power was off. Lights finally came back on around 1030-11. Humidity is starting to normalize.
IMG_4592.JPG IMG_4591.JPG

In other news, I tried taking a couple clones, more of an experiment because I don't have any root gell or root growth formula, and I still don't know the sex of the parent plants. But I stuck em in mushroom compost and they seem to be okay, one really well. I pulled up one to see how they were doing, little roots! Then I threw that one away lol. The mushroom compost is really light and airy, and it had been raining so it was perfectly damp. The plants seem to really enjoy it. (Also 3 more random seeds starting. I plan to buy but money is tight!)

IMG_4597.JPG IMG_4584.JPG

I'm also really glad I kept that larger tent in 18/6 for another week even, but I need to figure out something else for that auto maybe? Those 5 seem ready to go to 12/12.

Detected a little light burn on my crop? I raised the mars hydro lights up back to 18” or so.

Moved the plant out of the dresser into the window with the other. Put the seeds and remaining clone in it’s place until I can seal off light leaks from their part of the large grow tent.

Auto’s buds looks to be fattening up a bit and can start to see trichomes.

Moving the whole tent to 12/12 now.

those burned leaf tips are just slight nute burn, it can be from hot soil or added nutes but no worries. Those tips will stay brown it’s just a sign that you are pushing a little bit hard, helps to do feed, water, feed, water... the idea is that you feed and on the next watering cycle plain water reactivates any left over nutes for her to utilize.... also helps to water to slight runoff.

Everything looks good to me!! Keep doing your thing

Awesome, I gave them a break from nutrients today when they were watered. Thanks for the encouragement!
